DC Super Powers Collection
DC Super Powers was produced by Kenner toys. It ran from 1984 - 1986. It featured redesigned action figures by the likes of Jack Kirby and George Perez. The line consisted of some of the most popular DC Comics characters, such as Batman, Superman and more. Each figure had an "action" feature and the line also included some impressive play sets and vehicles, including the now infamous Hall of Justice play set. There were three total series' made, but the line was canceled in 1986 even though additional figures, vehicles and play sets were in development. Marvel Secret Wars Mattel released a series of toys based on the Marvel Secret Wars 12-issue comic series. The line ran from 1984-1985 and featured a total of 16 figures as well as a few vehicles and play sets. The main gimmick for this line was that each figure included a lenticular "shield". The first two series of figures were part of the main North American release, while the third series was limited to overseas markets. This line was meant to compete directly with the DC Super Powers Collection by Kenner.

Super Powers FTW! Personally my favorite superhero line of all time. I spent A LOT of time as a kid playing with these. Loved that Batmobile. I still say if they'd make a full roster of figures to finish out this line, I'd buy those and sell my DCUC collection. HEAR ME MATTEL!

Wow, now we're talking a tough battle!!
My love and loyalty lie with Marvel/Secret Wars, but that Hall of Justice was one helluva disllay piece. I must ponder this before casting my vote. |

Gotta vote DC...and i am a marvel guy. Super powers had punching action when you would squeeze the legs. Lenticular sheilds were cool, but as a toy Super Powers takes it.

Gotta go with Secret Wars, though I will concede that Super Powers was a great line as well.

Until very recently while searching Ebay I was unaware of the Secret Wars toys and while I knew about their comic series I was unaware of Super Powers comic series. so for toyline awareness I will have to go with Super Powers because I had that Superman and loved it

Super Powers by far. the Secret Wars line was OK for what it was, but it was not even close in terms of breadth of characters or sheer fun. The Super Powers line had more accessories, better playsets and vehicles, and was not so tied to one specific comic.

I only vaguely recall Secret Wars. They were fine, but Super Powers was pretty huge at the time.
In addition to the Batmobile, I remember having the Supermobile and a big piece of Kryptonite. I think I might have sold my Batmobile for $5 at a garage sale. |

As a kid, I always loved the Batmobile from the DC super Powers collection. It was one of the first Super Hero toys I ever got. And that Superman figure is still kicking around my parents place somewhere.

Had to go with DC on the merit of the toys alone. They were the better line.
Forgive me Stan Lee........ |

I had lots of both of these lines as a kid. DC Super Powers were definitely better figures and it was an overall better toy line (and this is coming from a lifetime Marvel fan).

Easily Super Powers for me. I had both lines as a kid, but the Super Powers figures reigned supreme. That Batmobile is still one of the coolest toys/vehicles ever produced, IMO. I loved it.

I have to agree with all of the other Marvelites that begrudgingly recognize the quality of the DC Super Powers line over Secret Wars.
Super Powers was one of the best toylines of all time, imo. Secret Wars was ok. |

Wow! I'm having a really hard time believing this round is so close. I mean, I agree that Marvel is better than DC, but come on! Super Powers were much better figures than Secret Wars.

I'm a Marvel guy and the SW Cap has a special place in my heart but those DC super powers were awesome during their time.

I think I owned that Joker...and MAYYBE that Ironman....but that's it. My memory is really foggy where these toys are concerned. I know I didn't collect them. But, seeing as how I'm a marvel fan before a DC fan, I chose Marvel.
That said, wow...Mattel used to have the license for Marvel figuers...that just sounds funny, even typing it! |
