We have a nice look this afternoon at the Arkham City 2-pack, recently released under the Batman Legacy series of figures from Mattel.
Released to celebrate the soon-to-be-launched Arkham City, the sequel to Arkham Asylum, this 2-pack features Batman and Two-Face, in a scale and asthletic that is slightly larger, but still works, alongside your DCUC figures. Batman looks great. His armor is beautifully textured and his coloration is superb. I think the colors on Mattel's version vasily outweigh the DC Direct figure as, for some reason, DCD decided to go with both black and blue colors on the cowl and cape, and I can't stand it. This Batman also features nice detailing on his gloves and boots as well. The articulation is good and matches that of DCUC figures in my opinion. Two-Face is the 2-packs baddie. He's finally got some muscle to him this time around and the scarring is detailed and realistic, unlike the green or symmetrical scarring we've seen in the past. He comes with his signature coin, but it's stuck in his hand and can't be removed. His articulation is similar to DCUC figures, however, he has cut, not ball jointed shoulders. We got an explanation for this at Comic Con in that the different materials used to make the body and suit jacket did not come together in a natural way with ball jointed shoulders (think of a “vest” look) so aesthetically, they made the joint choice. Mattel is beginning a new age with their DCUC line, and Batman Legacy is leading that new age, with figures spanning both comics and video games. This is a nice set, plain and simple and if you're a fan of the game, you'll want to add these two to your collection. The next Arkham City set to be released will feature Joker and the newly revealed Robin, so stay tuned for further updates! Enjoy the attached shots supplied by The Fwoosh! I'm sorry but I'm not a stickler like some people about how "ugly" joints look on a figure. What I look for in my figures is "poseability" and without ball jointed shoulders on Two-Face (as well as utter lack of any accessories) I just can't bring myself to spend $30 bucks on this otherwise awesome looking set. .....

The price isn't too bad for 2 figs, but that Two Face, just puts me off of this pack. If I could get that Batman figure for a decent price, I'll take it.

Is it just me or does Two-face look like James Bond?

I just picked up this set at Target and...it's ok but there are problems here.
Batman's shoulders and arms are sculpted in such a way that he can't bring his arms down closer to his sides which bugs me. He can't bend his elbows very far, no ankle tilt means if you spread his legs too far he looks silly and loses his balance too easily and can't hold any accessories at all due to fists ONLY. I will say that they added some nice texture to the over all figure and the forearm and shin armor detail IS indeed very nice. Two Face...well he's not bad. Mine suffers from some loose hip joints but stands perfectly solid anyhow. No gun though...not that he was sculpted to hold one...which is my biggest bitch about this set. Would the price point they're selling these at REALLY have negated an interchangeable hand each and a gun and Batarang? Hell, Mattel could have saved mold costs and molded the Batarang and gun into the alternative fists. I'm not buying the BS about the shoulder joints BTW as their DCU line has done figures wearing suits with great double jointed shoulders with no problem. Mattel just ham-fisted these sculpts and don't want to admit it is the REAL problem. Bottom line, if you are a completest or just love the game or want Batman in just black and gray or can't find the (superior) DC Direct version, buy this one. PS, YES i said the DC Direct one is superior. In sculpt and execution and considering that if you cut the cost for this two pack in half it's $15 per figure which is near enough to make no difference, the same price I paid for the DC Direct version with more paint applications which add a LOT of detail and realism and even has an accessory that it comes with. Regardless if you don't like the more accurate color scheme of the DC Direct figure, it really is still SO worth every cent. I don't think too many people will pay $15 just for the Mattel version. I did...but I'm a completest. |
