Toys as an invmestment be it old toys from the 20's-30's, you toys as a kid from the 70's-00's or the toys just being released, what do you feel are the best investments, in the form of over all companies, toy lines, characters.

What personal items do you own that you feel over time could be worth a bundle or do you have figures already that over time have shown investment in the form of ebay pricing or just general banter amongst collectors. Which toys are you looking for that maybe investments either for yourself as a collector or trade bait or other?

I think companies like HOTTOYS,3A and SideShowCollectables show the most promise for overall investment return and appreciation over time. Due to limited quantaties made and overall purchase price being greatly higher then general store peg toys. Limited edition versions to go with colored variants and 1/1 scale items are what in 20 years could be and more than likely will be driving up high prices on the online Market.

As for my own collection, I have 1 IM Hottoys figure that will be kept close to heart for a long time, and I have currently a few sdcc MU and the Mandarin wave Moc, same with my MU blue and yellow Goliath and my MU sentinel, some of it is just due to display room though but some I may never open. As fas as pieces to aquire, the Marvel sub figures for MU and ComicCon figures and some hot toys pieces are tops on my list of wants, also some Marvel Legends Variants/rare items such as giantman Baf, series 1 stealth ironman,faceoffs and destroyer variant, and some movie concept stuff. would love to hear what you guys/girls think.

For the most part no. Marvel Universe, Transformers and other toys that are mass produced I see having not much future value because of the wife majority of collectors. Some of the vintage items are worth so much because there werent a lot of collectors back then and now the market is full with people who know the value.
One of the big reasons why i've switched to threeA is because of the value that these figures hold and will only grow in time if the popularity spreads over time. 3A also never makes the same figure again unlike most toy companies.
Any toy companies that make figures that are limited and have a low supply and high demand will always retail their value and most likely climb in value.

legos are pretty much the only toys that go up in value. any other rise in 'value' is largely due to inflation.

I think toys are pretty worthless to people that don't care about them.

Good investments are things that you can buy low and sell high to just about anyone.

Toys don't fit into this catagory. Gold on the other hand...

If you know what you are are buying and buy the right stuff, absolutely it's a good investment, IF that is what you are trying to get out of it.

it all depends on how much return your expecting i guess. toys produced in smaller numbers have a greater chance obviously on having a greater long term value.

I think it all boils down to supply and demand.

You may have a super rare toy they didn't make very many of, but if no one wants it then it is worthless.

On the other hand... if everyone wants one then the value will sky rocket.

Kind of like Turbo Man in Jingle All the Way.

Yea your pretty much right although if there is a high supply and a high demand, the value will peak and then drop at one point. To me most common toys (MU, TF's) found at retail will never be very valuable because of mass marketing and mass collectors. Its the limited releases, third party products that hold value.

It really all depends on the toy.

30 years from now, kids that grew up playing with Super Hero Squad toys may suddenly wax nostalgic and decide they want a collection of MoC Squadies to play with.

Even though those toys are mass produced and sold at retail now, I'd wager a MoC collection would be pretty hard to come by in 30 years, thus if you bought low now, you could sell high later on and will have made a "good" investment.

Conversely, if you've paid a pretty penny on a relatively obscure toy targeted to collectors now, I doubt you'd be able to find someone willing to pay significantly more for that toy 30 years from now. Especially if they have never heard of what it is you bought.

Rare MU figures could very well be worth something in the future, if the kids that grew up playing with MU figures decide they want to buy back their old collections, and maybe those figures they never had, in the future.

Its all just speculation really.

Toys in general is a great investment! Some lines will grow in value, some will not. We cannot see the future so who knows whats going to happen. For all we know MU is going to be one of the top lines that collectors want in 20 years, or maybe not. Who knows.

I would say yes.. Complete vintage toys in great condition can be worth good money.. I hang out with a few toy dealers and I have seen the revenue that comes in. I personally just collect .. But have seen the value of toys, through them.

I think toys that came out in the 80's are valuable now because for some reason those of us who grew up in the 80's never actually grew up.

I don't think that toys from today are all that good of an investment.

If you are collecting toys because you plan on selling your collection in order to retire, then I think you are making a mistake.

A nice 401K plan would be a better investment.

Besides, you may meet a real live girl one day and she's going to make you sell your collection anyway, so why set yourself up for dissapointment?

I was about to say the same thing. Hot Toys figures are worth having any day of the week, but most of them just maintain value instead of increasing.

Yea, I see what you mean about those 3A figures. It is just finding the proper buyer, which takes time. But hey, it's about enjoying them when you have them and enjoying the money you get from them, if you sell.

yeh 3A is sweet, kinda bummed I traded my bramble but my Hot toys Iron Man figure is justifyable, I would like to get some 3a stuff, the 1/6 desert bertie bott is tops of my want list. I think somewhere I found a pic of a 1/1 scale which was massive and was only for a museum display. There's this new figure with this chick and a robot head, the head is the size of a child's head lol.

At the end of the day, this should be a fun hobby that you are passionate about and if your not then maybe u should find a new hobby.

That figure is beyond any other Iron Man figure I've ever seen, so I think you did the right thing.

I know, but now it's like an addiction, a very expensive 1, ex I picked up an extra set of hands from a mark v just for the hell of it was only a few bucks, but what I really want to get is, another human hand as it only comes with 1, set of glasses, the box with of doughnuts, headsculpt, and a set of hands with bendable fingers, I though they came with every hot toys but found out it's only the mark iv and v I believe. then I may look into trying to aquire the pricey crushed helmet, and other helmets. Along with maybe the tux suit and base figure to make regular tony, then black widow,whiplash, now the giant suit dioarma is available, and I heard from a buddy that hot toys is making a haul of armour light up box so you can put the figures in! Then add warmachine etc and you see how damn addictive this is. plus I've thought of just buying random heads like Brue Lee and have him in the Iron Man suit lol, classic Bruce Lee. Then you move into cap,spidey,blade etc damn beautiful toys, but pricey but if your not in a rush and can save up most people might be able to afford anywheres from 2-12 a year, depending on salary.
