This is rad as hell, but I'm going to resist the urge to get one until they release the "hero" version of Ash as he was seen in the second half of the film/beginning of Army of Darkness.

Hope they do that version. Like to see it come with the Stag head, non-scared head sculpts, dagger, open Necronomicon or pages, and a sawed off shotgun.

Army of Darkness hero Ash definitely! With some armor, the boomstick, and some mini-demon-Ashes!

I know I'll probably be in the minority here, but I prefer the original releases. The legs look wonky to me with all that unnecessary articulation. But, I'll buy 2, because I'm a sucker for Ash and NECA.

The Evil dead used to be one of my favorite horror films. I used to sneak to my friends house to watch it because my parents wouldn't want me to see such a gory film.
The action figure looks amazing!

Another great review.

I got my figure this week. Glad I didn't buy the versions from a few years ago; I hated those V-crotch legs.

Opened my Ash today, love it. My only gripe is that it's the AoD Necronomicon and it seems too small, otherwise the accessories are great even the stupid tape recorder. I got the Hero Ash from the original line they did back in 2012 (I got the figure in 2014) and I'm glad this one uses his look throughout the majority of the film because they look fantastic next to each other and this way I get to keep both out.

Loving all these pics guys. Glad people are picking up the figure. I want an Ultimate Hero Ash and an Ultimate AoD Ash, so the more people that grab these, the better.

In light of the insane after-market prices on the originals, I gotta believe these will sell well.

Were the original releases hard to find or were not a lot of people buying them for some reason? Maybe NECA wasn't a household name yet? I'm honestly curious, because I've been collecting their figures for a very long time. I think one of my first purchases was the House of 1000 Corpses 4 pack. I was a rabid McFarlane collector and when NECA started showing up in Suncoast and Spencers I was all over them, as it seemed they had taken over the mantle for horror figures.

It was a mix of being harder to find but also highly desired. NECA wasn't as popular with Toys R Us yet, you could find some NECA stuff at a TRU but not like now. So the number of retailers carrying them wasn't huge and then ED is also one of the biggest cult-status favorites of the genre and the only figures to that point were all from AoD so getting ED2 Ash in multiple forms was both really new and they looked better than any of the options before them. However the Henrietta figure was not desired across the board so it hurt the line's performance in stores (TRU) so retailers weren't psyched for NECA to continue with the license at the time. Also it was 2012 and NECA didn't become quite so popular with the masses until around 2013 so anything they made prior to their boom has become wanted for its limited/rarer nature and therefor deemed more expensive.

Ash Comparison by scarrviper, on Flickr

From left to right - Ultimate, Farewell to arms, and Deadite. The older versions are still decent figures, but the new ultimate is superior. The new legs look so much better and the paint is also improved

Ash Accessory Comparisons by scarrviper, on Flickr

I decided to put this together since I noticed some changes to his accessories. The new are on the left, old on the right.

Linda's head - Eyes are now all white, hair and blood colors slightly different. Skin has less pink to it.

Book of the Dead - Seems to be the same incorrect book as the original. My older copy has been customized to look more movie accurate. The one in the middle is a movie accurate version that came with the retro style deadite ash. It is a little large but I think it looks the best.

Axe- Handle is lighter and the green blood now has some black added and a nice coat of gloss over it which is noticeable in person.

Tape recorder - Reels are now grey/white and silver rather than brown and tan. Rest of the changes are very minor.

Deadite ash head - More blood, darker hair, and a more precise paint job.

Possessed hand- Paint is less sloppy and darker, nails are better painted, as are the bones. Also has new blood spatter applied.

Shotgun - Very similar, but the stock now lacks the thick grain lines that were present on the original. I have repainted the forward grip on both to match the stock since on both versions Neca incorrectly painted it silver.

Really cool comparison pictures. I only ever got the Hero Ash from the previous run so it's cool to see the upgrades side by side with the corresponding figures.
