The CW Gives Greenlight To 'Arrow'; Based On DC Comics Book Green Arrow
Reported by Outsiders - 09:23 PM 2012.01.18

We recently reported that the CW network was close to wrapping up a deal for a pilot order of a Arrow, based on the DC Comics book Green Arrow.

Today, this deal went through and the CW gave the greenlight to a handful of pilots including Arrow. David Nutter is expected to direct the pilot which was written by Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim based on a story by Greg Berlanti and Guggenheim. Justin Hartley, who played the character on the CW’s Smallville for several seasons, is not attached to the new project.
This is the first I've heard of this, and assuming the pilot is good and they give it the go ahead to continue, I'm looking forward to it. If nothing else, it should make for an interesting pilot. While I haven't seen much of Hartley's portrayal in Smallville, the bits I have seen didn't really wow me, so I can't say that I'm displeased to see that he won't be attached to the project. Hopefully they're able to get some decent actors/actresses for it. Would be great to see this spawn a movie too, but I'm getting a bit ahead of myself there. I'm reading the new 52 GA comics, so it should be interesting to be able to compare the two.

I've thought for a long time that Green Arrow is DC's best untapped resource. If handled well, it has every bit, if not more potential than Batman. If only because Ollie is a much more approachable character (Unless they humanize Bruce, like with Batman: TAS).
The only downside to GA is he doesn't have a particularly strong Rogues gallery.

Being CW, it's probably going to be young, hip, and angsty.

If I had my way, I'd use Mia Dearden as an entry-point. Get a teen, or young actress to play her, have Ollie be already established as the urban legend known as Green Arrow, and like the comics, become a father figure to her.
Introduce the viewers to Green Arrow's origin, Roy Harper, and all their back stories like that through her.
He does need a perminant antagonist... I think the Queen from GA: Brightest Day may be good for that. She's rested Queen Industries from Ollie.
And have a rotating cast or mercinaries she hires, mob bosses, and independent villains.
I think Merline and Deadshot would make terrific adversaries for the first season. (She hires Merlin to assasinate Arrow, when he fails, she replaces him halfway through the season with Deadshot.
And while not being a traditional GA villain, I think Cheshire would make a great reoccuring character, especially given her history with Roy.

It says in the first post he's not attached to it.
