You will need to ask the DC retail team. This Q&A can only cover items from the Mattycollector.com team, and for SDCC that includes our Hordak and Doomsday figures. All of the other SDCC items are from each brand’s retail team. Reps from the DC retail team should be at SDCC or you can always catch them online! (Editors note: we have tried on more than 1 occasion to get in contact with the DC retail team but have yet to receive a response)
I wholeheartedly wish Mattel could somehow lose the DC comics rights, or at the very least for DCC to ramp up their production on 3.75" toys. DCC stuff has a fair likelihood of breakages, but at least the money you spend on it would go to a company who occasionally throws their customers a bone. (stuff like AO Killer Croc going for standard price) |

These Q & A's are becoming totally pointless. Not just Matty here on the toyark, but also across all toy collecting forums. The term "no news is good news" only applies to snail mail, but it seems to be their mantra.

This Q&A is only for one of those "smaller companies", so it makes sense that they wouldn't be in a position to talk about their sister company's projects.

DC Collectables is an In house line developed and tooled by someone at DC or a company they Pay to do it.

They're no different than any other large corporation with multiple brands and divisions. Don't think of them as one big company that does one toy for their website and then another one from the same franchise to be sold at retail. It's more like two smaller companies that work on separate projects under a larger parent company.

I like the BS answer on the $30 figures. The Tooling and Design are already done, if anything they should be the same price of lower.

Maybe when nobody buys them for $30, we'll get them in 2015 at Big Lots for $10?

The problem comes when Scott Neitlich announces both lines at the Conn's and does Press releases for both. If he is only handling Online stuff then he should not be announcing anything Retail. That's why all of this is a "Cluster @#&$" Mattel has a person say one thing then have that person do another.
Mattycollector said that was a one-time event that they will not repeat. It remains to be seen if that holds true.

Hey never mind about my question regarding the Doomsday box(es) they did a video and it is pretty much the Death of Superman Bloody S
![]() ![]() I have to admit they kept true to the Comic book Cover but I still think this Figure would have been cool if they had just done both versions

I have to ask this. Is Mattycollector not allowing 3rd Party sales of Figures purchased in Early Access? and if So why? It seems as if you do not want the DC Collectors to get the figures and you are trying to stop them simply because they didn't want the MOTU Sub. By the way America is a Capitalist Country. Why not stop the people in Hong Kong selling the fakes instead of going after Legit businesses and hurting them and yourself in the process

Second, the MOTUC sub has absolutely nothing to do with CIE. You really should stop trying to make connections that aren't there.

I think he is asking that since BBTS has not put Ice up, so I've got no choice but to order it from Matty today. UGH!!

Since Early Access is only for the MOTU buyers that is a connection sorry but that's the way it is weather you like it or not the MOTU people are getting special treatment end of story.

It's possible that BBTS may not have been able to acquire Ice through the Early Access sale and had to wait for the Standard sale. So maybe they're holding off on a preorder until they are sure how many of the Ice figures they will be able to purchase (and resell on their website). Another potentially more depressing reason could be that BBTS is simply not going to sell Ice at all. Yes, MOTUC subscribers get a perk for their subscription. It was also a perk for Matty's other subscriptions while those were still active (including CIE). It may look like preferential treatment to MOTU fans now, but that was not the intention when Early Access program was created. You are not being punished for not liking MOTUC.

ok wait... Yellow card Mattel. Lying... not 6 months ago you (Mattel) said
Quote:
We needed the tier 2 level (higher quota) of the 12 monthly partially tool’d figure to off-set the higher cost of the fully tool’d Doomsday.
Quote:
It is not the tooling that determines this, it is the production cost in terms of plastic and paint that physically make up a figure and this cost for a 6″ figure is pretty standard whether it is a redeco or a new figure. It would waiver more if said figure had larger parts like giant armor, wings or a tail because this would mean the figure needs more plastic and paint overall. The production run is also a factor and the fewer figures we make, the more expensive they are to produce. In 2014, Signature Series figures are $25.00 (not $20), the SP figures are priced higher at $30.00 due to the inclusion of a C&C piece, larger packaging and smaller production runs.

is there any Idea of what the total cost will be for the 4 figures next month with Shipping and will we beable to bulk the Superpowers and Signature Series figures to cut the cost? I'd rather not pay Shipping on 4 boxes and only pay shipping on1y big box.

Now you say there is no extra cost on tooling. Be honest which is it? because I cannot be both. And do not play symantics with the Size of the figure 1. Matty did not say that there is no extra cost for additional tooling. They said that the tooling does not determine the retail price of a figure. The cost for any tooling is actually spread out over every production run made from the original mold. Basically every use of that mold shares part of the original cost. So the tooling cost for the 15th version of a given mold is practically negligible when it comes to the 15th version's price at retail. 2. The first comment you quoted was talking about the cost of a production run for a newly-tooled, over-sized figure. DDU would have also been a limited-run figure, meaning that it would have been even more expensive for Mattel to produce that a standard DCUC exclusive. So, all-new tooling + more plastic + more paint + bigger packaging + lower production run = a very expensive figure to produce as a one-off figure. 3. The second quote was discussing the difference in retail price between the Super Powers and Signature Series figures, which are both standard 6"-scale figures. But as Matty said in the quote, extra plastic and paint apps increased the price for the Super Powers figures.

They couldn't of spent that "extra money" on maybe making sure the colours matched on the figure? [RIDDLER]

Hey Trebshot I really need to say this... If there was no intentions of making Doomsday Unleashed, why was a Production version with an accessory made? Why were the boxes made? Why was it tooled, Painted, and Packaged? I love conspiracy... Hey Scott you feel that occassional pressure change in the water as if something just swam past those are the sharks (DC fans) circleing and there is blood in the water...

I love this heated topic, Mattel lied about the tooling and us collectors not meeting the mark.

Some think it's stupid for Mattel to homage a toy exclusively released by a second-party company for a foreign market in the 80's. Some think it's quirky/cool. To each their own. Either way, Mattel's toy is not a production error. Quote:
No, they did not lie about tooling, as I quite clearly explained in my previous post.

As has been stated numerous times in this and other threads on this site, the color mismatch on the Super Powers Riddler was done on purpose to specifically homage a rare Super Amigos figure: El Acertijo. Same goes for using the its-obviously-Hal-Jordan-not-the-Riddler head sculpt.
