Nah, this movie is set post-slavery so people can't complain. I still remember some people complaining about the Django toys who were all "How are these appropriate for kids?!" and everyone with common sense was all "You know the boxes say ages 17+ right? There's such a thing as adult collectors." Just like with the Breaking Bad fiasco the censorship group won.

I didn't like Django unchained as much as most other people, I still thought it was good overall but just not nearly as good as some were making it out to be. I like the look of Hateful Eight more plus it's another western which is always appreciated when done well.

I really wish they would stop limiting certain licenses to these mego style figures... At least make normal 7" figures as well. Will these really sell better?

Yeah, it's a real shame so many of their good licenses are getting the mego treatment.

Personally I've yet to see a mego sell better or even as well if there's a 7" counterpart. With Leatherface as my recent example, every store in my area has sold out of Ultimate Leatherface but you can still find both megos around. Many people do like them and they cost less to produce (or so I'm told) so I think with licenses like this (not a guaranteed toy market) NECA would rather not spend more sculpting time than it's worth.

I agree but it's cheaper for them as there's less tooling involved as they can just re-use the same body type and focus on the head sculpt, sometimes the hands and any other accessories as well as all the fabrics that go with it.

The 7" figures will always be my bread and butter... but sometimes NECA can put out some really nice megos that just work better with the fabrics. Sack head Jason, Ghostface and Snake Plissken to name a few, at least in my eyes, work really well with the retro format. Unfortunately Snake didn't sell brilliantly so there's slim chance of a 7" version happening according to their twitter.

I imagine their mego Leatherface must have sold well enough for them to be able to do the ultimate Leatherface which looks to have complete new tooling on almost every part (and to be honest, looking at pics and videos of the ultimate version, the retro version really pales in comparison). Very excited to get mine in the next week or so when they come in stock.

I'm pretty sure the ultimate Leatherface was in the works regardless of the mego. It's a well established license in the market and they were teasing the ultimate sculpt as early as last October when the mego was just out. I'm confident they planned on doing both the entire time because it was the film's 40th anniversary.

Yes, the ultimate Leatherface is the perfect Leatherface toy to date in any scale/format. The apron being made of actual vinyl is icing on the cake.

Love the Ultimate Leatherface. I think the Formal dinner Leatherface fared a bit better in the Mego format than the standard apron one. For me, it depends on the outfit on whether I prefer the Mego's or not. If they can get tighter knitting and smaller thread on the some of the fabric, then I'd buy them almost exclusively.

The head on the dinner jacket mego came out a lot better than the regular mego.

Actually, in this case, likeness rights were likely built into the movie contracts (with actors getting final approval on sculpts). It's much more common now than it was in the 80's and 90's when using the actors likeness didn't account for much in the Kenner days.

Cloth clothes on toys this size always just look to me like a kid wearing their Dad's suit.

After seeing this movie twice, I can safely say I love it. I laughed my ass off like I hadn't since Django. I'm tempted to pick up John, maybe Mannix. I'm sad they didn't make O.B., poor guy put up with too much shit.

Well, that was unexpected.

Hateful Eight was 100x better than Django, BTW.

I did like Hateful Eight much more than Django Unchained. The tone felt more proper western and Walton Goggins stole the show as the newly elected sheriff. Django had some great stuff in it too mainly with Christoph Waltz.

Goggins was amazing. It's a real testament to his performance that I absolutely hated his racist ass at the beginning, but he was one of my favorite characters by end. I still love the "Oh, you got me talkin' politics!" scene.

Agreed, much better than Django. I loved Django, but it's pacing was almost excruciating at times, even for Tarantino. I don't find myself saying "I think I want to watch Django Unchained again", whereas I can't wait to own Hateful Eight. It just had an easier pace, and is much more rewarding on multiple watches imo.
