Here is an update, thought I would share!

Upcoming 'Wolverine' Movie Will Not Be A Sequel - Comic Vine

Quote:
Actor Hugh Jackman who is slated to reprise his role as Wolverine spoke to Coventry Telegraph recently revealing some insight and information on the overall plot of his upcoming film and how it will be connected to Fox's previous X-Men films. According to Jackman, The Wolverine film will not be a sequel to the previous film and will not feature many other mutants.

" We've deliberately not called it Wolverine 2 because we want it to be placed and feel like a standalone picture. With an all-new cast and setting it in Japan, it's going to give us a whole new visual aesthetic...The approach to character means we won't be overloaded with mutants and teams and the like, so it'll be more character-based. I think in many ways it will feel like a completely different X-Men film."

So this movie won't be a direct sequel, and will primarily be a standalone movie about Wolverine the man, not so much the mutant. Do you think that a completely new direction for Wolverine is a good idea? It seems like a lot of changes are being made to the character and the franchise and that the filmmakers won't be relying too heavily on the success and associations with previous X-Men movies too much. With a completely new cast and crew, a new direction for Wolverine and a new setting (Japan) can you say whether you are looking forward to seeing The Wolverine?

What's bad is how Hugh Jackman is apparently the only one who can play wolverine. He looks NOTHING like him, or has ever acted like him appropriately. Get someone else to play the part and maybe I"ll be interested.

These details give me up that this movie might be worth watching. I do agree that Jackman does not look like Wolverine. Hollywood thinks all you need to do is give someone the hair and a scruffy look.

I don't mind Jackman as Wolverine, he grew on me, especially with the amount of respect he has for the character, judging by interviews. I can't really give any thoughts on whether I'm looking forward to the movie until I hear more though.

One of my best friends had mentioned that to me before, and the fact that Jackman did not go feral/berzerker enough in the movies.

Man I really wish the X-Men/Wolverine/Deadpool rights would revert back to Marvel Studios...then maybe Joss Whedon could make an Astonishing X-men movie...

Who is directing The Wolverine? I remember the directors changed like twice.

I can't remember the other, but the current director is James Mangold.

I'm curious who this person from his past will be.

The movie is based off the classic Chris Clairmont story set in Japan with Lord Shingen and his love interest Mariko. Silver Samurai is said to be in the movie and so is Viper.

The only real problem I've had with Wolverine on film is his height. Way to tall to play the "runt". Otherwise, I think Jackman not being able to go feral is just him being limited by horrible scripts. Since this seems to be the first run for fox at keeping closer to the actual source material of a comic in the Marvel Universe, I'm interested to see if it makes a difference. I think the success of The avengers may have changed Fox's perspective on how to best present these properties on the big screen. Here's hoping.
