true, but i think movie widow and hawkeye will be pretty sought after in general since they're not in the initial waves that the stores are gonna be bombarded with. i imagine hawkeye will do something really cool in the movie and i'll come out of the theatre wanting to be able to pop on over to the nearest TRU and buy one.

Agree on that part, catering to the kids, nothing wrong with that though...only the die hard fans will get these IMO.

I think they are actually...but hey whatever sells.

this is one of those times where i wish there was some kinda poll or actual hasbro market statistic that we could turn to. but even those would be flawed.

I have to agree... these are kids toys.. parents eat them up.. we (collectors) might be the prime target for Drax and Plylock or Dr Strange.. but the fact that they keep coming out with Spidey, Cap , Wolverine Iron Man , Thor and Hulks shows that they are shooting for the less intense MU crowd. They make the other fringe figures to throw us collectors a bone and line their pockets with kids and parents buying the big 6.

Well since that's the case, Ultimate Hawkeye and Thor should've been held back for Marvel Universe style/versions. No older fan(who is the audience that would recognize the Ultimate versions), wants an underarticulated Norse God of Thunder and bad ass archer.

That's like saying we want T-crotch Spiderman figures, which are steps backwards, I mean it's not like Hasbro would resor-

WAIT

I would agree if it weren't for mass pegwarming and scalpers snatching figures; Unless it's at the time of a movie release, I rarely see children near the Marvel Lines in stores (Please Note, I am not a paedophile who watches kids in stores lol).

I just dont care....the higher price point breaks it for me. Im being very selective with MU figs now.....Ill go see this movie a few times and own it on Disk, but the price increase is going to put a stop to me buying the plastic stuff....

For folks talking about this line being catered to kids and with minimal articulation, the Iron Man 2 line had a successful movie to back it, and lots of articulation, yet failed to sell during the holidays even with coupons attached.

I remember seeing some well past expiration date of the coupons with the coupons still attached. I think the Iron Man 2 line was due to lack of variety. Jumprope guy in wave 5 with laughable face paint apps, tons of repaints of the Mark VI, and drones that came in later waves. The figures everyone wanted weren't in the initial waves. So those essentially cockblocked the release of what we wanted.

Why does an ultimates design means it should be a collector figure? If your on the Marvel team at Hasbro, and marketing says "Hey, we need some alternate character designs to fill out the assortment" wouldn't you rather pick a comic based design rather than make up some dayglow zipline ice melt fire attack Thor? As long as it looks nice, that is fine. A kid doesn't need to know whats its from or based on to think it looks like a cool Thor toy.

I'm pretty sure what I think is a cool thor toy is different to what a kid thinks is cool. Kids love all the gimmicky attatchments and weapons and dont care if the paint is a wrong shade or is smudged onto his belt a little. But we want as many POA as possible with uber accurate paint apps, it's just how it goes.

man i remember as a kid i just wanted the most accurate and articulated version of a figure possible. the first time toybiz made that super poseable spidey in the early 90's was reaaaally awesome.
gimmicks got in the way of being able to pose stuff like if a toy had a side kicking action, for sure he couldn't sit in my ecto-1. or that old hulk with steel beam crushing gimmick. had that lever pulling thing sticking out of his back and i couldn't move his arms all that much. granted there wasn't much to pose, but that means 2 out of maybe 5 points of articulation were compromised.

Thats fine, I'm not saying anyone has to love these. But they are children's toys. Just because a design isn't something a kid would recognize doesn't mean it won't look cool to them.

I just don't like the idea of "If they're not gonna make the character they way I want it they shouldn't make it at all" mentality. Again, children's toys. If you like em, pick em up. If you don't, pass. Just because Ultimate Thor got made in avengers doesn't mean that he was gonna get a super cool collector MU version, or that he won't get a super cool collector MU version. Its just another design to fill out an assortment and make it look different from the other Thor. I'm sure the designer was pleased that he got to use a comic design instead of some shitty made up one, anyway. It is what it is.

While in our eyes Hasbro does a lot of wrong things, they're pretty successful as a business. If we were the primary buyers, we'd be the target audience. But we're not. If everyone here stopped buy all marvel product, maybe, MAYBE Marvel Legends would end like a wave earlier than planned. Maybe. I'm sure nothing else would change.

The fact that marvel legends style articulation carried over into all these small scale main lines still surprises me. With production costs going way up, I think this is the best feature to cut, from a purely business standpoint. Kids play with their toys, they don't pose them. Ankles mean nothing. Can it stand? Can it sit? Does it have a big weapon I can hit other toys with? Done.

Either way, by time Avengers runs its course I'm sure there will be one collector friendly figure of every main character in the 4" scale. I wouldn't worry about wave 1. I personally am Looking forward to the 6" figures. Never sold off that Marvel Legends collection to switch over to Marvel Universe :P

After looking through all the Avengers stuff at NYTF on the net, I noticed that there hasn't been any news on the 6 inch line. I don't think there has been any word on the 6 inch figures since NYCC.

Whenever I see kids looking in the aisle, they always look at Marvel Universe stuff! makes me happy when I see it. many times I've seen them or their parents buy it. I even suggest if asked.

I've suggested it to adults shopping for kids as well. maybe I'm shooting myself in the foot, but what real collector doesn't beat everybody else there in the first place?

I thought that was some part of the Helicarrier we have not seen.

I'm interested in seeing what they do for that, honestly.
I have long considered making the classic sky-cycle...maybe useing a ML flight stand's base as the windshield.
