I recently rediscovered my action figure collection, and once again I am completely hooked. I mostly have batman, transformers, tmnt, motu, star wars and a few others, but I am open to collecting anything. Since I've been away from the hobby for a while, can anyone give me some tips on what they think is the best new line of action figures? What is new and exciting?

Thanks!

He said "action figures", not dolls.

Well, it depends on how much your willing to spend. Retail is kinda hefty these days. and what was said before, what scale are you looking for.

"Dolls" until you buy one and realize the awesomess of these things, LOL. I agree with previous posts, if you're looking to accumulate a lot of figures, MU or DCUC is the way to go. If you want a few, top-shelf items, you'll love Hot Toys.

It really depends on the type of toys you're looking for, as well as the scale. Quality is also a factor too.

G.I.Joe has some of the best 3.75" action figures to-date and MU is just as good. The new TMNT line is pretty good (at least for the turtles themselves). The new Vintage Star Wars line is nothing to sneeze at, either.

I personally love the Transformers Prime and Fall of Cybertron (Generations 2012) lines, but they're not for everyone.

And those are just mass-market US lines. If we start bringing in things line high-end collectables (Hot Toys/Sideshow) or even imported toys (SH Figuarts, TF Masterpieces) then I'd have a whole new slew of answers for you.

My suggestion is to hit one of the secondary discount retailers like Marshalls, Ross, Big Lots, DDs Discounts, Tuesday Morning.

Buy an assortment of figures, commonly at those stores are:

IronMan 2 (3 3/4 inch figures)
Captain America (3 3/4 inch figures)
Spiderman series (6 inch figures)
Transformers Generations (Classic G1 inspired figures)
GI Joe vehicles with figures (3 3/4 inch scale)
DCUC Classics (6 inch figures)
Thundercats (3 3/4 and 6 inch figures, newer style)
Star Wars Vintage collection (3 3/4 inch figures)

This will give you a good feel for what the new figures have to offer, and you can figure out what would fit your collection best.

Those discount stores often sell the various figures for less than half retail price, though selection and quantities are limited. It would be great for getting your feet wet.

The only exciting thing to me from SDCC '12 was Arnold from Predator and Gordon Freeman from HL2. For the first SDCC, I feel a little meh in grabbing anything aside from these 2.... better for the wallet! The new TMNT classic re-release look ok, but I got multiple NECA versions that I'm plenty happy with.

If you want action figures in the traditional sense then I say marvel universe is the best as a matter of fact anything Hasbro in the 3 3/4 to 3.75 scale you can't go wrong

thank you so much, everybody! i am looking to get a variety. probably nothing with fabric clothes though haha. I like action figures that I can realistically pose and fight with. i'd like to know what i'm getting before i start spending too much. where do most collectors like to find reviews of action figures? and how do people keep track of what they have and what they want?
