Eyes on both Rocket and Groot are not looking good. Did Rocket even have red eyes in the film?

I think the dot matrix paint app (don't know the actual name for it) is a lot more conspicuous and distracting at this scale.

Yeah, these are looking really rough. Even for Hasbro standards.

The problem also exists on one of the hands of my Invisible Woman. I hope this doesn't become a widespread QC issue.

EDIT:...I'm also surprised it isn't mentioned in the review, it's very conspicuous and unmissable.

the dot matrix is screen printing. McFarlane does this with the Walking dead figures as well. Mostly for the blood spatter applications. It makes everything uniform but looks crappy up close. It would be great to use as a guide for someone to paint over but with QC as hit and miss as it is these days we are lucky to even get the screen print stuff and not just a blob of paint. I wonder if the process is automated, hopefully it is or they have some real underachievers working on the paint at these factories.
It is sad when some knock-off figures have better paint apps than Hasbro/McFarlane etc...
Guess they have to keep costs down somehow.

The digitally printed looking face on Rocket is weird. I am not a fan of this technique. I wish they just painted his face and gave him an articulated jaw.

Please note – close up shots of the faces show dot-matrix style printing artifacts. This is not visible to naked eye from normal distances, even holding in hand semi close. It’s due to the computerized printing method that’s replacing hand painting on the assembly line, and what allows for very small and detailed accents like his head fur possible.

I can't speak for the Rocket fig, I don't own it. However, I just bought an Invisible Woman fig and Hasbro used the same technique for detail/shading on the fig's invisible hands. It is, in fact, noticeable at "semi close" (if that means 6 inches or less) distances. But those parts are translucent, so it stands to reason that the phenomenon might be more pronounced as a result.

It's just extremely noticeable when you take a picture of him lol
I hope this isn't used on any other face sculpts. Count me out!

It is. It's used on Gamora and Nebula as well. Nebula is able to escape some of the cons thanks to her eyes being solid black, but Gamora experiences the same kind of fuzziness up close. I have a couple of close up shots over on the Marvel Legends thread. None as clear as these, but you can see the how they came out in general.

Mantis, and the rest of the figures in the wave seem to have the traditional painted faces. So far, as Destro said, it looks like this practice will only be reserved for characters with intricate details on their face, such as Gamora and Nebula, or characters with heavy sculptwork or paint shading, such as Rocket. It would not surprise me if this becomes the standard practice on at least MCU Legends figures going forward, while traditional comic based characters will continue to have their faces painted.

The head on this figure is an unbelievable improvement over the previous versions. It's like night and day.

For a guy I have to buy just to get a skinny little arm, he could have been worse.

I know I'm probably the only person excited for Ex Nihilo, but I'm downright giddy at how well he seems to have turned out. Never thought he'd get an action figure, or even a minimate (fingers still crossed for that). If you haven't read Jonathan Hickman's run on Avengers, I highly recommend it if you're a Fantastic Four fan.

I wish there was the neutral/first headsculpt with this facial hair, because the smile looks off to me. I'm all about a smiling Star Lord, but this looks unnatural and like the model was shifted or something. Otherwise a great-looking piece.

I'm very happy that Hasbro gave him the Magus head instead of trying to make into a whole other figure or something.
