Two reasons.. I really wanted Hope, so two gave me a better chance at getting Hope. Unfortunately they were both Hopeless. And they didn't have Cyclops listed yet, so I thought I could trade a Cable for a Cyclops.

I found my Cyclops two days later at Walmart along with Cable and Hope, so I sold one of two Hopeless Cables to omega145,.. for cost. The one spare I have now is up for trade for either Blade or to go towards a Frost Giant/Loki GB pack. I also have a spare MOC Apocalypse. If anyone wants a MOC Cable (no Hope) and MOC Apoc + $10 for a Frost Giant GB set,.. pm me.

SO RIGHT!
People that think Hasbro is not all about us collectors need only look at varaints like this to see the truth- it might still be kids buying more figs than collectors but it's us collectors that guy that inintial push of newly released figures- we set the tone saleswise, I'm sure!

I would not be suprised to learn that initial sales figures for a wave are indicators for how well it will do- and possibly how many additional figures of a wave are made- and all those preorders and figures scores by us on the first weeks must be looked at.

Why else have an favorites or listen to questions/comments? Or fan exclusives for hat matter?

What, kids can't be comic fans too? Who says only collectors would know about Hope?

Also, assuming we do set the tone for early sales, we can also be the reason for the abrupt failure of a good line.

And for the record, Hasbro is not "all about the collectors." They are all about the money. I would say that variants and homages are a way to hold collector interest and possibly sway casual fans into buying as well.

But these things are topics for another thread.

Yeah & also some people might even go as far as to not buy the figure because of Cable carrying a baby girl I mean if we weren't as open minded, didn't know we can change the chest piece & didn't know what the girl's significance is then most of us would say "I'm not buying cable with a kid cause it looks stupid"

Young boys not intimately familliar with a X-Men storyline from five or six years ago might indeed say "bleh!" to a old man with a baby strapped to his chest- absolutely.

That's why I say the Hope version is really a collector's thing.

Like Mary Jane- notice how she never got repopped with the other figs? Probably not a big seller past collectors- she was Spidey's former girlfriend with no powers- the one Norman Osborn did not throw off a bridge.
She comes with no accessories....nothing.
Not much "kid appeal" in her when Kitty comes with a freakin purple dragon!

Very true. She loves her collection. And for a 6 year old she takes very good care of them.

How dare you?!!

Mary Jane comes with one of the best (and most unique) MU accessories to date: Ms. Lion! Through her bravery in the face of sheer adversity, the Spider-Friends were able to defeat the nefarious plans of the evil Chameleon and save their guest stars from certain cinematic doom!

....where the hell did that come from?

Anyway, it's a dog with a bow in her hair. Talk about kid appeal. And she was a companion piece for the TRU 3-pack.

Ms. Lion is just as valid of an accessory as Lockheed is to Kitty Pryde.
