I've been a bit behind and haven't seen any news from the recent toyfair, from what I researched at least, regarding possible figures. However, my current logic is basically that since XMO: Wolverine and Iron Man movie lines did them, that the upcoming Thor and Captain America movie line's would also follow suit...or so I hope.

Anyway, what I'm wondering is if Hasbro is planning to use the movie lines associated with the Avengers characters to distribute the characters that make up "The Ultimates". To date (unless someone proves me wrong) only Ultimate Cap has been released from the MU line and we know that one is also being released in the upcoming Cap movie line.

Iron Man 2 finally gave us a comic series Ultimate Iron Man (That I have yet to find anywhere in Cali and may just submit to BBTS purchasing), so I'm wondering if the Thor Movie line will give us a comic series Ultimate Thor and possible Ultimate Hawkeye?

What do you guys think or even know that maybe I just haven't heard yet?

IM2 also gave us movie/Ultimates Nick Fury. Marvel asked for Samuel L. Jackson's permission before using his likeness in the Ultimates, so it's the same thing, IMHO.

Cap Movie toyline will be kind of mixed. Not like Iron Man 2, which had comic, concept, and movie series. Everything in one wave.

Officially, no Thor comic series.

Completely overlooked Ultimate Nick Fury. Good point!

Really? I mean, seeing as how the movies haven't even hit theater's yet, are you guys just assuming or was this something that was announced at Toyfair?

I only ask because I would imagine that as a business strategy, Hasbro would milk these lines to supplement the popularity of the movies, assuming they succeed in the way X-Men, Spider Man and Iron Man did. Meaning I'd expect to see things like comic versions of characters in later waves.

Unless, it's like nickvree said and there just wouldn't be anything left to milk, figure-wise, for the Avengers film. Granted, I don't see Thor as being nearly as popular a character as the aforementioned superhero's films...Captain America, however, has potential to be a huge hit IMO.

In any case, SDCC is one place where such surprises are likely to be revealed. So we'll see. I suppose I could wait for next year to complete The Ultimates. Probably have to anyway.

No Thor comic line confirmed at toyfair. Really dissapointed on that one. But probably will see the rest of the Ultimates in the avengers line.

Also, personally, Thor movie line could give us interesting figures, such as Beta Ray Bill, and others. Thor is a famous character, yes. Though he has had less publicity (Cap has a ton of cartoon apperances, so does Tony) which could present a problem for the toy-team.

ok, either I'm on a completely different page as some of you or I really didn't articulate myself well enough on previous posts, of which I apologize for the latter, but Beta Ray Bill would classify as a "Comic Series" character, wouldn't he? This is all I meant when referring to comic series figures. Release of comic representations of characters in or not in the movie, through the movie action figure lines.

For example, Cross Bones looks very much like the comic representation of his character and I don't believe he is in the Cap movie (I could be wrong). I would expect other comic versions of characters in later waves of both Cap and Thor lines that are relevant to their specific comic storylines. Like the way the Mandarin appeared in the final wave of the Iron Man 2 line.

I would expect more news from SDCC. That's just the way it seems to be with past lines and it would be very unorthodox for Marvel to change things up suddenly, but we'll see.

Right, and as of right now, there is not a single comic-based character coming in the Thor line. All 18 of the figures that have been officially announced (plus the two that haven't but most people know what they are anyway - Frost Giants) are from the movie, and not based on their comic representations. The official word from Marvel at Toy Fair was basically: "If the Thor line does well and continues, then we might get some comic-based figures in it."

Rumormongering has said that retailers were not too big on the Thor line, so Hasbro didn't go quite as all-out for it as they did other lines. Captain America is getting a considerably bigger "push" and includes both comic-inspired and movie-inspired (and "movie-inspired concept" figures).

I'm sure we will see more at SDCC. Specifically we'll see the product that'll be intended to tie in with the DVD launch later in the year. However that does not change the fact that Hasbro officially stated that "as of right now" there are no Comic-based figures in the Thor line.

Why one slim hope is that maybe a Thor comic series was proposed and canceled, and maybe a few toolings exist, and maybe a comic book Volstagg or Baldur might leak out into MU after the Thor movie has past.

Of course, "I'm whistling "Castle on a Cloud" while I type this, but it could maybe possibly happen.

I think I just got confused. Changing the subject, SDCC is giving me hopes. I hope we'll get a Thor comic series.

I'm not seeing where Hasbro said "officially" no comic figures.
What was said was none in the first few waves. They might get some if they sell well. Which of course they won't since there will be millions of different Thors.

Correct, they did not rule out the possibility of comic-based figures in the Thor line, and in fact I believe they said that they were tentatively planning on including a few comic-based designs in "future waves."

But as of this moment, no, there are no comic-based figures in the Thor line, and unless the line is moderately successful we may never get to those "future waves" in order to see what comic-based figures they have/had in mind (though if they make it to tooling at least they'll probably show up in the MU line at some point).

Of course, I suspect people might be gravely disappointed when the first several comic-based figures they unveil are (once again) more Thor variants, to include remakes of Thors we already have (modern Thor, classic Thor).

However, I would note that "millions of different Iron Men" (far more than we're getting of Thor so far) didn't prevent Iron Man 2 from having several waves and continuing into this year with a rebranding.

Ah but Iron Man is quite different. All those armors could be considered different ones Stark uses. While Thor may change outfits usually one is all that people want.

Not really. Me I'd want 6 versions.

-Classic
-Modern
-Ultimate
-Eric Masterson Thor
-Simonson Armoured Thor
-Lord Thor

And I'd also want the spin-off characters like Beta Ray Bill and Thunderstrike. But I'll admit I'm a fan of Thor.

Yep, that'd about cover most Thor's, minus minor variants (Classic w/ Beard, Modern w/ Gloves). Except for the Deodato Thor and "Godpack" Thor, but I'd be REALLY surprised if they made those.

I also left out the Heroes reborn Thor, and the warrior Thor looks. But really I could live without Warrior Thor. I would however like a Heroes Reborn figure. After all those others got made though.

I would totally buy Scuba Thor and/or Ninja Thor just because of the sheer absurdity of it.

They said there would be 20 figures in 2011 and we have seen all of them. The line won't continue into 2012 either, Cap and Thor (and Iron Man) will end this year and be replaced by what will probably be a gigantic Avengers line next year.

Actually I would be VERY surprised if we didn't get more than 20 figures in each line (in fact Captain America's presentation said "20+"). They basically said the same thing about Iron Man 2 last year, and then ended up revealing four or five more waves over the course of the year. They will at least carry Thor and Cap through the DVD release and/or the holiday season, and Hasbro rarely launches ANY line with the intent of it only lasting 6 months (as you're basically proposing here).

They'll likely try to get all their waves out before the end of calendar year 2011, but I'm betting there'll still be product from all three lines lingering on shelves by the time the Avengers toys are launched.

I have a feeling that, should the Captain America or Thor toy lines become successful, any potential future releases will probably be rolled into an Avengers line for 2012. Possibly the same with Iron Man, unless he drops back into Marvel Universe until IM3.

Of course, should either line prove as wildly popular as Transformers 07 did, retail demand could extend one or both lines through 2012 as well.

This is exactly my thinking. Too many times have I heard Hasbro put out a quote on a toyline while it's still pre-sale only to have that same quote revised later per demand.

I agree with those on here who don't expect the Thor Line to be as successful as the Iron Man lines. There are better reasons to have a gazillion different Iron Man armors, but do I really need a Thor with some sort of War Machine like missile firing aparatus?! No, not really.

If being a kid taught me anything, it's that those little army men guys with parachutes were the shit back in the day, and should never go out of style. That said, Captain America figures with Parachutes on 'em....SOLD!!! I'm liking this line so far.

I can see that happening, my only argument would be that I can't see the same figures that have already been revealed selling well until the avengers line gets released. I mean, even XMO:W at least had multiple waves with figures worth searching for. But I'd see kids and collectors alike more likely to put a Wolverine to good use then a Movie Thor.

lol, I just had this conversation with my roommate and fellow member/customizer symbiote. We were both knocking how weak we thought the movie toys for Thor looked when we saw 'em in stores...but then I said, "Dude...you know how it is, you're gonna watch the movie, he's gonna do something super sick, then we're gonna be itching to recreate some scene from the movie for the guest room display. Shut up, you know we're gonna buy 'em"
