Uhhh, I think Mattel's efforts, aesthetically speaking, are hitting a little askew of the mark on these. The anthropomorphic presentation of the originals was more satisfying in my memory. The originals were significantly more hulking with a subdued color palette that felt less pastel-ish. Not terrible, but also not what I was hoping for when announced. Go big, or go home.

...and when I say 'big', I don't mean scale. I mean proportionality; oversized heads, shoulders and arms that create the dramatically inverted visual of a triangle of teeth and muscles.

...and the price.

Apparently these are based on early concept designs hence why they look so different than we're normally used to for Street Sharks. Really odd choice though, and pricy too for what they are.

So characters no one wants at a price best described as highway robbery? I almost wonder if Mattel takes insurance policies out on their toylines and collects big when they "fail".... (Yes, I know that's ridiculous.... Right?)

Odd character choices. And that price. Ouch. Not that I was really all that invested, but now this seems like an absolute no for me.

Dumb move on Mattel's part. $75 each these will mostly only appeal to the diehard fans of a relatively lesser known 90's toy line.

Smarter move, maybe a small wave compatible with MOTU Origins.

This should be a MOTU Origins style line. They're sharks, kids love sharks.

Unless you're a big fan and somehow can afford the crazy aftermarket prices for the OGs, I can't see these doing well.

Which I guess is why Mattel is trying to rob people at $75 each.

I never had the toys but I remember them and yeah I was like what are these designs? They looked nothing like what I remember and I guess I'm not alone in that. Really weird choice.

My dream of owning fully articulated "Extreme Dinosaurs" one day is dying a little death every time something stupid like this happens. Concept chatacters for 75 bucks a pop, Jesus.

Seriously, you have MOTU Origins, don't you? Just do that with your 90's brands. I know He-Man is a much bigger name but it can't be this difficult. Just sell them under the MOTU Origins banner if you have to. I'm sure talking humanoid sharks and dinosaurs aren't that bad of a fit for the battlefields of Eternia.

I think there's a reason these concepts never saw the light of day. Sorry to anyone who worked on this. The clam guy is ok, but the other two are pretty horrendous.

I was never into these as a kid but I do like them. They are priced high, but everything is now with hyper inflation taking hold. These will sell-out in minutes, just like those damn beetlejuice dolls I tried for.

Since these are based on rejected designs from back in the day, it makes total sense that they look like nothing you remember.

Had a few Street Sharks as a kid. Cool they’re throwing it back for the people that collect them. Don’t love the designs, but they’ll get some of the completist attention.

Things Mattel could do
  1. Re-release the OG figures. It's near impossible to find mint condition ones and when you do they're really expensive.
  2. Modernise them
  3. Have Super7 give them the ultimate treatment like they did TMNT; or
  4. Get McFarlane or NECA to do a modern take on them.
  5. Even better just do all of the above.

What Mattel did: Gave us expensive crap nobody asked for.
