* I posted this on actionfigurenews.ca, but I figured I'd post it here too.

I'm a huge horror movie fan, particularly when it comes to slasher flicks. My favorite, of course, is Jason Voorhees. My friends and I used to do Friday 13th marathons, watching every movie back to back all in one day. Oddly enough, I've never owned a horror movie figure. But when I saw that Mezco released a Cinema of Fear Jason figure in my favorite 3 3/4" scale, I knew I had to have it!

Anyway, I got pretty excited when I received the toy, so I had to do a quick review.

I must say, the figure is awesome. Definitely the crown jewel of my 3 3/4" toys. He comes with a machete, stand, and removable mask. I believe there were only a thousand of these bad boys made for this year's toy fair.

The articulation is excellent, much like the 25th Joes, with shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee, hip, ankle and neck articulation. The figure is somewhat restricted at the waist by the sculpt of the shirt, but it's still not bad.

The detail and paint application is probably the best I've ever seen in this scale. Just amazing. Although it doesn't show up that well on my crappy camera, the mask has very subtle dark staining around the edges, as well as the crack at the top where Jason got an axe to the head in the third movie. Even his pants are stained brown in spots! My only gripe is the red triangle that's on the forehead. It's on a wierd angle on mine, but I'm just nitpicking.

Overall, the quality is simply amazing. Unlike a lot of figures in this line, it feels sturdy and has weight to it. It's as if you had all the quality and detail from a 12 inch figure shrunk down to 3 3/4" scale.

The face only a mother could love:

And now for some fun. You know what happens next...

Finally, introducing, Super-Jason!

Oh, and here's the best part: The mask glows in the dark!

(Last picture not mine. My camera sucks, so I borrowed the picture from fridaythe13thfilms.com).

My girlfriend already hates him. She says it creeps her out that he stares at her from the bookshelf! Which, of course, means it was worth every penny. I can't wait to grab Freddy and Leatherface.

That misstep in the paint in the triangle on the mask is universal to every pic on the net.
After hundreds of Jason figures you'd think they'd get his mask right.
P.S.~ Jason is my guy. He kicked Freddy to the curb. But what would he do against Ash? I'd have to put my money on Jason, but I'd tell everyone I bet on Ash.

Same here. I'd never bet against Jason, despite how much I also love Ash. Freddy vs Jason was epic. I always wondered why they never came up with a sequal. I mean, it made good money when it came out.

And I had no idea about the triangle mistakes. That's really strange considering how well the figure was done.

EXACTLY. It made really good money, fans loved it, so where's the sequel? I remember going to see it....I was damn excited about it, and it still remains a favorite of mine.

RE: the figure- that is a pretty sweet catch- If for anything, I just love the fact that toy companies are bringing 3/4 scale figs back. Don't get me wrong- I love the ML/DC Direct Scale, but there is something more....intimate about the 3/4 scale. Easier to collect and display, maybe. I think we are going to see a big return to this scale figure as the rising costs of manufacturing in general are gonna take a hike in materials costs and what not. Something old is something new, again.

My friends and I also saw it in the theater and we loved it. The DVD also rocks. For a while they were talking about doing the Freddy vs Jason vs Ash movie, but I'm not sure what has come of that. Development hell, I guess. The thing about these movies is, you can fire them off for like 10 to 20 million each and make back two to three times that easily. The latest F13 has made something like 60 million already, and it wasn't even that great. I mean, it was good (I like all the F13 movies. I find them oddly satisfying) but it wasn't great or anything, even by F13 standards.

I am also very happy the 3 3/4" scale has seen a comeback as of late. Between DCIH, MUFF, Joes and now this line, I am one happy camper.

Smalljoes has the Freddy and Leatherface 3 3/4" figures for presale right now. I just placed my order.

Question: Are Wolverine, Supes, and Snake Eyes also made by Mezco? Curious about the interchangability in the SuperJason Pic.

Btw, I thought the pics came out great. Especially the play of the shadows on the wall.

That is pretty much it, very cost effective, not to mention parts-swappability, the sky is the limit for future characters

The Marvel and GI Joe are Hasbro, I forget who has the DC license at the moment.

My camera was bugging out so it took forever to take those pics. But thanks for the compliment!

Supes was done by Mattell. They have the DC Infinite Heroes license. There's more likelihood of interchangeability between the Marvel and GI Joes, but the DC figures are quite different. They have less articulation and are quite different in the way they're put together. Though I suppose a talented customizer could probably find a way to make them work together.
