Thanks for that suggestion. I had a nagging feeling that something felt off with the figure in hand, and couldn't quite pinpoint it until you mentioned it. Used the neck peg from the Page Puncher (Noel?) Batman for the swap and I'm much happier with it now.

Got my Catwoman/Batpod in yesterday, and I have to say, it's a lot smaller than I thought it would be, including the figure. The McFarlane figures seem to run very large, but Catwoman seemed to be more in scale with the Star Wars Black Series figures, and the Movie Masters Batpod looked a lot larger than this new one, even though those figures were smaller.

Wait, people other than Paul Dini actually like Zatanna?

Dude was seriously trying to argue that female characters don’t sell (meanwhile, nearly every other major genre action figure line has no problem with this), so it wouldn’t surprise me if he thought the only market for Zatanna was as a sexy statue or something equally dumb.

Ah yes, who to believe: the impassioned and emotional fan, or the manufacturer actually reading the sales data...

Making figures of female characters doesn’t seem to be an issue for Marvel Legends or any other superhero toy line aimed at collectors. Hell, even other DC lines didn’t have this problem.

Let me put it like this: the likes of Poison Ivy, Hawkgirl, Huntress, Vixen and Black Canary are all way more popular than nobodies like Ghostmaker and Abyss, and Todd had no problem making toys of those two duds.

In order for female figures not to sell then male figures would all have to sell. The moment a male figure pegwarms it destroys the argument because it immediately shows other factors are in play.

I love to get figures of my favourite female characters but I've only bought three McFarlane Multiverse female characters because they have all been fucking garbage with terrible faces and bizarre proportions.

Agree with much of what is being said. Some of McToys female figures are just, I don't know, not good. From character selection, to paint scheme, so many of them leave a lot to be desired. Knightfall Catwoman and Wonder Woman (2 recent examples of his recent femmes) were beautifully done. And they're gone. Super Woman was an odd character choice, but while I don't recall seeing it "out in the wild" very often, it is gone. How many wouldn't go back in time to pick up a few of that one for customizing? I would.

But (movie) Catwoman and Cyclone, were just very blah, like minimal effort went into the colors and design. Very drab. I didn't even know who Cyclone was. Harley (BOP and Suicide Squad 2): one was an odd looking figure (gold lame?) and the other was sporting a dress (where was the leather beach assault outfit?) I passed on all of these. WHen McToys tries to do well, the figure sells well. That's it - it's not rocket science.

Hasbro and Mattel are much larger companies than McFarlane Toys, and both ML and DCUC make/made re-use of existing tooling on a much larger scale and much more consistently.

Is the average consumer even aware of who those last four are, apart from perhaps some hazy memories of the Justice League cartoons and maybe Batman: The Brave and the Bold?

Guarantee you that if Cyclone had looked like this, she wouldn't have peg-warmed so hard.

Well now you’re just generalizing as well. There’s some truth to “female characters don’t sell”, but you’ll usually be able to sell a GOOD figure of a well-known female character (see the new Wonder Woman selling out constantly for proof of that), but you’ll have duds like Carrie Kelly Robin, Cyclone and female Batman Beyond who stink up pegs for months or even years after release…

The Batman figures are great. Ordered all 3. I’m really hoping more first appearance figures keep coming.

Also my Crisis on Infinite Earths set just shipped from McFarlane. Quite the DC day.

All 3 sold out at bbts within like 20 minutes. I made sure to preorder FA & Knightfall bats cause I'm sick of overpaying for these figures on ebay.

This line has also started delving into frequent reuse. If they can actually cobble something together that looks good, many won’t mind. Hell, making more female characters gives them a wider library of parts that can be recycled going forward.

If we’re talking “the average person doesn’t know them” as a rationalization for not making more women, that immediately disqualifies a good chunk of male characters as well. Characters like Booster Gold, Red Tornado, Captain Atom and Firestorm have around the same level of exposure (in some cases less), and they all got figures.
