My son is 10 and likes the very articulated action figures, I want to get him some for his birthday but I don't know which ones to get. He was talking about the DC Multiverse figures but he's had a few before and they were pretty cheesy, then he was telling me about the DC Essentials and Icons but they seem a little too price for my some to have to play with. Any help is greatly appreciated, seen as how I know nothing about the subject.

You can't go wrong with the McFarlane DC Multiverse figures. They are very articulated, but occasionally, you will get one that is very loose or has QC issues. I would stay away from the DC Icons or Essentials for a 10-year old.
