Predator is still a very strong license in spite of the fact that the last good movie was also the first of the franchise - IMO. My movie buff buddy gives me a hard time for not at least liking Predator 2 (in addition to Predator), but he's a Danny Glover fan so I think he's biased. I'm happy that these well done figures maintain a public interest in Predator. I just wish the films would step-up their effort/plot/concepts to match the potential of the franchise.

Maybe an animation is in line for the series. Animations can sometimes take risks that studios are afraid to, due to the dramatically reduced overhead. A Predator 'toon could finally provide a film from the perspective of the Predators (subtitles at first, then transition to voice actors?), rather than the forced insertion of humans we've seen in film to drive the narrative. If said animation were successful, it might push the needle on how these films could be re-packaged to fans. Just a thought...

The only way I would ever want a Predator animated anything is if it was done like the Spawn HBO series. Even then I feel like a human should still be the main character, the first movies presented the Predators as the bad guy. It was an alien hunter killing people for sport, that's pretty bad-ass, also technically evil, but bad-ass. When they made the main Predator from AVP act like a hero and not kill the main human, but instead team up with them all buddy-buddy, that freakin' sucked. Going from the original AVP comics which the film was loosely based on, the main Predator (broken tusk, who could technically get a figure now) didn't care about the humans and killed a bit of them, only sparing the main human because she saved his life.
The gist of my post is that if they ever try and do a Predator animated thing (preferably just a single animated film) even if it's from the Predator's perspective, the Predator should be a merciless evil space hunter, not Batman from beyond our solar system.

@En Sabah Nerd

I don't disagree with you man. I never said the predators needed to be heroes (heh, you don't know me very well ), I just don't want some shoe-horned human protagonist that drives the very same lack luster story you mentioned.

Trust me, you are talking to a person who has advocated for many years (on numerous video-gaming websites) that Dr. Doom and Magneto (not the cuddly version either) get their own stand alone villain-themed games. Hell, I was pissed at the "choice" one had in Force Unleashed; all I really wanted was a 7+hour game where I could enjoy slaughtering jedi as Darth Vader from beginning to end. As far as anti-heroes go, I have a profound love for characters like Namor and Black Adam for their on/off-again bad-guy status.

Animation offers a safe venue to tell a story from a DRAMATICALLY different perspective, again, because there is no exorbitant (in comparison to the $100million norm for movies) budget. What I imagine for a Predator animation is a theme revolving around the "thrill of the hunt"....and without sounding too sadistic, my favorite things to see killed in movies just so happen to be humans. So don't worry, although I like heroes, I'm a firm believer that heroes are made by their (almost more important) villains.

I actually like all three Predator films, but the first stands out from the group. Predator 2 wasn't as good as the first, what with the cheesy "future" setting of the '90s and a less compelling cast of humans, but for what it was I still enjoy it as a sci-fi slasher type film. Predators was better than Predator 2, if only because it made more homage to the original, again the humans aren't so great (except for Walton Goggins' inmate and the Yakuza guy were cool), but the feel of the film is closer to the original and introduces more looks into the Predator culture. Hopefully the newest entry into the series, which was only recently announced, will be worth while.
