Yes, that's basically what Scott said regarding the continuation of the CIE sub, albeit grossly over-simplified. Regardless, he did not say that was the reason why Mattel couldn't use WWE bucks in place of the standard DCUC buck, which was Rattrap Primal's actual question.

I was being sarcastic.

My overall point is that we don't know enough of the behind-the-scenes information to truly understand the situation and make judgment calls. In spite of that, some collectors take every opportunity to vilify him for one reason or another.

That's a possibility, especially in light of their "lead paint" debacle.

Trebshot, I only cut the "Tier 1" song out.. I persoanlly cannot Imagine a Head, and sometimes Cape and Hands costing 40$ a person to create if it does Mattel is getting seriously gouged and passing it to us.

Forty dollars was not just covering the regular figures and their remolded pieces. Scott said that the production costs of the exclusive figures (which is all new tooling - i.e. no reused parts) are spread across the regular figures in the sub. So while it does not cost as much for them to make certain figures with new bits and pieces, subscribers would be charged more for each one to ultimately pay for the exclusive. Think of it as getting the exclusive on a payment plan of sorts.

He also said they had an estimate for how much it would cost to produce each tier exclusive. The budget for those exclusives was based on the number of pre-sells they got through the subscription.

There's also a whole other level of business economics that comes into play, but discussing that here would take this thread even further off-topic.

Where else can it be discussed? I never understood why it was a big no no here to go "off topic". It's a DC Mattel thread, and we are talking about business about the company that makes/made the DC figures... Not like we are talking about hookers.

Can we talk about hookers?

Especially because there isn't a lot in the way of new figures to discuss.

In a technical sense the only thing off topic in this thread would be discussing Total Heroes Line, It's comparing a Grape to a Watermelon. I think most DC Fans could careless about Mattel's Business practices. It's only themselves they hurt by putting the Dollars over the Customers. I do have a big question for Mattel. If they couldn't sell the DCUC stylized figures at 20$ online (which most people would have bought without the club). What makes them think they can sell these new ones at the same price, when most people want nothing to do with them? (This is going to back like running at a brick wall trying to fit through a Mouse hole) I have a feeling that this is when T/H line dies.

Deeps breaths man, deep breaths. As I DC fan, I do infact care about how they conduct business as I am a buyer [or would be buyer] of their product.

I am a DC Fan and could care less. They only saw me as a Number and Dollars. After the 6 (or whatever Items that they do) I'm gone.

CM, are you still going on about this? Give it up man. THe line is done. We have no more reason to support Mattel. Move on.

Check your PM's for an answer to that.

Not really. But it would probably go in the Off-Topic GD forum, if at all.

This thread isn't limited to just DCUC figures. Any DC toy that fits that scale or close to it (between 5-8", roughly) is fine to discuss here. Total Heroes, PAK, Batman, Movie Masters, etc.

If anything, I'll go back and buy some of what lousy distribution robbed me of the first time around. Hopefully that'll work out as well for DCUC as it did for MOTU 200X. Mattel's pretty much a non-entity for me as far as anything new goes.

I think they keep approaching most of their lines from the wrong angle. They start with a budget that's too low and then do the bare minimum that hopefully won't drive customers away. Going the extra mile to attract more and new customers is a completely foreign concept. They've got the license and they're comfortable; they don't have to prove themselves so they don't even try.

That's going to doom Total Heroes and Multiverse too, except they're never going to get big enough for anybody to pitch a fit over them ending.

I know that but it does say 6". The reason I don't buy the DC Direct stuff is because they are closer to 6.5 or 7 inches. I know we talk about them in here but sadly the lines don't fit together. At least the movie figures are basically 6". These new Total Heroes figures are the right size but not to any collector's tastes. I think they are probably great for kids though.

Be that as it may, they're still all lumped together under the same discussion banner here. We do the same thing for similarly-scaled Marvel toys.

EDIT: Basically, we break it down based on size/scale, not aesthetics/design.

Articulation for the Heroes line look great, it's almost tempting to get as they are updated customes and such.

I'm not too upset cause it saves me money. Still have to hunt down half a dozen or so of the ones I want from DCUC.

Sure if you don't mind the figures missing the bicep swivel, ab crunch, etc.

I thought they had Elbow? Elbow is good enough for me. Don't care for ab crunch

They have elbow, but not the biceps and I'm not even sure if they have wrist articulation.

Even better if you consider the pricing for DCUC on the aftermarket will likely only continue to rise now that the line is done. Hell, El Dorado might actually be worth his original retail price someday.

Another [positive] way to look at it is that DCUC collectors will now have the opportunity to finally "complete" their collection(s). I know in my experience, I'm sometimes glad that certain toy lines stopped so I could finish it off, call the collection complete, and move on to something new or focus more money on the lines I had yet to finish.

Of course, I'm a bit of a completionist so it never really ends. There's always some new collection to take the place of the last one I finished. *sigh*

IIRC from the promo pics, I think they have wrist articulation. Then again, my memory might be playing tricks on me.

I've thought about jumping in with TH as well, since it's a new starting point (no backlog to hunt down), I don't mind the aesthetic, they're cheap for their size, and I don't have much in the way of DC toys in general. I've tended to cherry pick them over the years purely based on the character/costume.

I've never really felt the need to have every figure of a large line. I do sometimes wish all the toy lines I like would take a year off and come with fresh ideas. Give me time to take a break and not miss out on things at retail price.

Don't get me wrong, I have very specific rules when it comes to the toy lines I collect and my definition of complete may not be the same as the next collector.

For example, I also do not collect every toy released in a given line. With TFs, I'm more of a mold completionist: only one of every mold regardless of color/character, with very few exceptions (Seekers, Car Bros., etc.). And I've been following that same rule with Nick TMNT as well.

With the '66 Batman series, I only got the villains. I might eventually get Adam and Burt too, but for now I consider that collection "complete".

As far as TH is concerned, I may stop after they make (and I buy) the big seven for a JLA setup. Maybe enough villains for my own Legion of Doom too. I guess that's why I haven't bought any yet; still trying to come up with ground rules.

Thought it was a rotatable elbow.
