The Fwoosh • View topic - New Wave 18 rumor, courtesy of Raving Toy Maniac Hope that link works... I love how all the hardcore comic fans have to bash The Super Powers And Super Friends related stuff..I Grew up Reading comics and watching the cartoons..also all we had back then was the Kenner Line as far as action Figures and it vanished in 3 years! Why cant we finish our Super Power Line in the Dc Universe classics line..We know El Dorado, Samurai, Black Vulcan and Apache Chief were just added for Race issues, but they were cool looking..Granted their powers were nothing special..Kenner Released them in the infamous hard to find wave Well Samurai made it...But As much as I love the Hardcore stuff in comics, I would never bash the Super Powers Line...I mean they were the inovators to what we have now..But If I hear another collector saying oh I am not picking up Golden Pharoah or Mantis in Super Power Version its like come on man..are you kidding me?? Lex Luthor in that suit made for Super Powers is insane! Sick! Love it! How could you say the Purple Shirted Body suit from the comics is so much better! Please!! I love the Super Powers Version of Mantis as well..The Variant is cool..But The Super Powers Version is Nuts! But I understand where the true comic fans stand..but come on you cant say that these figures are not a dream come true for collectors...I hated the unlimted Justice league figures..the Upper Bodys look Horrible..But I bought the 3 pack of Samuari, Chief, and Vulcan! lol But I hope we can at least finish the Super Powers line and or get the Cartoon Versions of Scarcrow, Toyman, and The rest that have not been released yet..at least before this line goes under! I don't get it either. For years, collectors have been wanting the Mego versions of DC and Super Powers figures reissued. Mattel is delivering that and both lines get bashed. I'll get every single figure of wave # 18 if the rumors are true.

I think Super Powers/Super Friends are a worthy addition to the DCUC line, and I'm happy for the folks that have held onto their fandom of those shows.
I just won't likely be buying many/any of them myself. I loved Super Friends/Super Powers as a kid as much as the next guy, but I grew out of it. I can see the appeal from a pure nostalgia standpoint (or maybe from an ironic humor standpoint if you're a longtime fan of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim), but beyond nostalgia, most of these characters are pretty lame racial stereotypes, and the actual Super Friends/Super Powers show is pretty terrible if you're not watching it with full-power rose-colored nostalgia glasses on. |

I think the only reason fans want any mego styled toys is because of Twisted Mego Theater.
And when they finally get them, they look and go "Oh cool" and go on to buy modern toys. As for Superfriends, I really and honestly do not understand why anyone likes that show.

It's nostalgia, straight up. I used to watch Super Powers as a kid and had all the toys. Now I'm buying all the DCUC versions of these characters to complete that hole for not having them anymore. I'll pick up this wave for sure.
