For our Matty Q&A, we've asked a few times if the 4H/Mattel would revisit the 2002 designs with full articulation for the MOTUC line. This year is actually the 10th anniversary of it.

Mattel has said more than once, that they are done with the 2002 style. This sucks to me.

I don't remember much ot MOTU from the 80's. I dug the "New Adventures of He Man" toon but even that, I don't recall as much. The 2002 cartoon was awesome and I LOVED the aesthetic the 4H used and their sculpts. Bad ass Skeletor, kick ass He Man, et al. The other characters were great too. I think the line had potential but died due to mass casepacks of Heman and Skeletor.

Now with that said, I know classic will always when out compared to newer stuff in a collectors' line, but no 2002 fully articulated? That just plain sucks.

I'm not pissed (I prefer the old school Classics look), but I'd probably buy some if they made any. I'd rather see those than the PoP stuff they think people want.

My biggest issue with that line was price and availability. There were like 5 He-Men and Skeletors, and one other character per case. It was impossible to find anyone else. Such a disappointment. Though it did allow me to trade an evil lyn for a misb g1 reissue tracks.

Hell yeah! Hell I even stupidly passed on regular Skeletor and He Man...and I got that Halloween Golden Skeletor. Not bad but wow...kinda bright..

In fact most of my collection for MOTUC is small..and mostly He man and Skeletor, BECAUSE of those pack outs!

I pulled out my 2002 MOTU last night. Man they are great looking. IF ONLY THEY HAD FULL ARTICULATION.

They also scale better with 6" figures of other lines, whereas MOTUC looks chunky(like the originals).

I never cared much for the 2002 aesthetic. The sculpts were pretty nice and all, but I HATED the design of the He-Man figure. That face and hair still kills me. I'm glad that they're focusing on the classic look.

I'm fine that they're not doing 200x mainly because it's hard enough getting the figures for the original line. If they started doing 200x, I'd have to wait twice as long for characters like Mechanek and Ram Man. Plus if 200x meant 200x bucks, they wouldn't look good with the current line and I'd definitely pass on them. They've thrown in some 200x elements like giving them extra heads and gear to give them the 200x look which I'm satisfied with. Plus Battleground Evil Lyn looks pretty close to the 200x Evil Lyn and they did a Keldor and a King Grayskull figure and those two were exclusive to 200x.

Yeah as much as Mattel repeats that they arent doing 200x they still include additional head packs, homage weapons and characters exclusive to the 200x cartoon ... i think the confusion lies in when they say they arent doing them is that they mean they arent doing them in the 200x stylized fashion ...

MOTUC doesn't effect me, I don't collect them, though I have fond memories of getting the originals when I was a little kid from flea markets. I wish I still had a few of those, but I doubt they'd be worth much anymore.

Which I'm more than happy with. It's a compromise that I can live with. I'm not saying I'm opposed to a 200x line, it had just better not interfere with the vintage line, but we know that's impossible. Sales numbers will drop because people can't afford BOTH lines and it could mean the end of MOTUC as we know it and because releases would more than likely split the release of MOTU figures around 50/50 (considering they're only really releasing around two figures a month with this line as it is). One classic figure and one 200x figure would slow this down even further.

Much wanted figures like Mechanek, Modulok, Mantenna and Two-Bad would have to make way for their 200x brethren. Great example of this would be how so many collectors (myself included) have been praying for a Beast figure in the Marvel Universe line and when it finally came to reality, it was the Astonishing CatBeast that only a small portion of people preferred instead of the classic Beast. Let's just say hypothetically that the MU line ended with all figures announced thus far and Classic Beast wasn't one of them. You're damn right that there are going to be some angry collectors wondering who's freaking idea it was to release Astonishing CatBeast over Classic Beast.

Plus I'm pretty sure Mattel's corporate bigwigs see MOTU as MOTU whether it's 200x or vintage or New Adventures and I'm confident that the people behind MOTU Classics made this decision to make sure that this successful line continues to succeed. The vintage line did EXTREMELY well, however the 200x line didn't do so hot. Those same brats (like me) looking to reclaim some of their childhood from the '80s are the same guys coughing up $30+ (after shipping) for these vintage figures. It stands to reason that only a small portion of these fans bought the 200x line because it was the "new He-man" and not what they're used to. If the ones behind MOTUC introduced 200x and it didn't sell so well, all the bigwigs are going to see is that MOTU in general has failed. That it's winding down in popularity and it's time to cut funding.

When the inevitable happened, it would be downright civil war and resentment between fans of vintage and fans of 200x with the vintage fans hating on the 200x fans for demanding 200x figures and then not buying enough of them for it to succeed. Think I'm blowing it out of proportion? Look at Ghostbusters. There's a line where people said they wanted pie and then only ate a small slice. Thankfully that didn't interfere with anything but the 30th Anniversary sub stuff? That's obviously going to deal a blow to MOTUC. It took them around a week to sell out Photog when Fisto and Sorceress dried up on day one.

Now Photog was definitely a pie that people demanded but even with the lovely history he had with the whole contest thing wasn't enough to make the MOTU community enthusiastically accept him into their collections. I can imagine Sir Laser Lot and that hideous spade guy are going to be collecting dust unless they were smart and decided to make them in smaller quantity. And the Windraider? They already said that was a fail (and I personally loved it). Another point is that aside from King Grayskull, the fluff characters like Battleground Teela, Battleground Evil Lyn, Keldor, Icarius, Goddess, Tytus, Gygor, Megator, Optikk have been consistently selling for the lowest prices (in the 20s) on eBay which just goes to show their popularity when compared to the regular line. I can't imagine that MOTUC can stand too many more hits before it's shelved. Now I'm not against a 200x line but I'd save it until MOTUC is nearing it's end and they ran out of MOTU vintage characters.

Okay I've said my bit for today. LOL.

Forgot to add also Chief Carnivus, 200x Count Marzo and 200x Zodak.

And the Faceless One. Lots of 200X MOTUC have been made. The only gripe we should have is that they said they would not include any more 200X era figs in the subs yet we still get BG Evil Lynne and extra heads and gear for 200X conversions. The Snake Man Man-At-Arms is basically a 200X MAA. He just needs a ponytail Duncon head. I would like Matty to just be forward with us and say that some figs will get the extra accessory and some figs will be re issued in 200X colors/styling. Instead they deny that they are giving us any 200X style figs and threaton to scale back on extra accessories. Who knows. Unfortuneately I'm all in at this point. I just want a mekineck and ram man before this ride ends.

I hear ya buddy, I want Mechaneck, Ram Man, Mantenna to be made before anything else. Mantenna is the only main Horde member they haven't released yet aside from Modulok but I just can't see them doing him or Multibot any time soon. Skeletor's army is basically done aside from a few obscure guys like Jitsu and Ninjor. Same goes for heroes after Mechaneck and Ram Man. Then we're just getting obscure guys like Extendar. If they do more Snakemen, that'd be cool, but honestly, if I had to sacrifice any figures, it'd be the Snakemen and PoPs before anything else. I can pretty much just IMAGINE the Snakemen soldiers they're releasing are the various Snakemen. I mean we already have King Hsss and Kobra Khan is on the way. They're the main two snake dudes, anyway. If I find out that this line is over, I'll likely blame the Mighty Sphincter and Sir Lazy Lout...

P.S. I kind of understand Ram Man and Mantenna taking a while since they require major retooling but I kind of expected Mechaneck to be released before Buzz-Off and Sy-Klone... I mean they basically just need a neck extension and a head sculpt. Maybe we'll get him now that Stinkor is out and Mechanek's armor is just a red and silver version of that.
