And do we think by oversized they mean C&C sized figures or what.
I *think* they mean this for figures that are inappropriate for C&C. Like Kilowog and Arkillo (Both awesome figures as they are), really weren't that appropriate for C&C. Both of them are technically too big as C&C, but if they were standard sized, then they would be waaaay too rediculously small (See: Mongul. I can accept those two and Mongul as being too big. But I can't handle them as too small).
So I think the oversized figure niche is supossed to fit these kinds of characters. Too small for C&C, but too big for standard 6". Characters who may be too complex and require a lot of extra parts, or more intricate design works (Such as Metron with his chair, or even Salaak with his six articulated limbs) may also fall into this catagory.

From what I've heard so far they're going to be roughly 25% larger than the average figure. So, roughly 7.5" - 8"? Something like that. (PS, Mongul was way too small for sure. The character was bigger than Arkillo in the comics.)

That makes sense. Because I also saw in my head that they just made the figure, just bigger in a 12inch scale like the Hal Jordan (for the movie or just a toyr'us exclusive, I dunno). Which would be dumb.

The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning to just biting the bullet and signing up. Either I sign up or get Atrocitus for sure, or I don't and likely miss out on one of my favorite characters from the recent Green Lantern comics.

I just really hope we don't get more characters like Jay though. Sorry to classic fans, but golden age guys have little sway with me.

So, was the DC Direct Mongul the correct size in comparison to the other DCD's? (Didn't realize he was that large). And how many Power Rings is he supposed to have?

Sorry if I'm going off topic, just wanna know....

First of all, I take offense to the Jay Garrick comment. Lol just kidding of course, but I do love the character.

Anyways, I'm thinking the same way about biting the bullet. But I'd give it time. Wait until they hit there 90% mark or something. Because right now they aren't doing too well (Thank God, imo).

Pretty sure he had just the one. Cyborg Superman had like 10 or or something if that's what you're thinking.

Thanks for the clarification. (On that note, I think Atrocitus should be one of these oversized figures. BAF is way too big, but 6" always seemed a bit too small)
I think Mongul is a bit smaller than Arkillo... though not by much. I actually use the DC Direct Mongul (Along with DCD Kryb) in my display. He's a bit bigger than Arkillo, and it works out nicely. Even though he's an inferior figure, I got him on clearance from BBTS. DCD Kryb also works out really well.

Mongul does indeed have multiple rings. He killed a whole bunch of Sinestro Corpsman, and took their rings. The DCD Mongul acknowledges this, and the DCUC does not.
I can't remember if Sinestro stripped him of them when he laid the wraith of the lord upon him, though.

I've been thinking the same thing! But I'm holding out 'til the last day - like I said, they're still under 20%

OK, thanks. I dunno, I just feel like I've seen some pic of him flaunting like 4 or 5 Sinestro Corps rings somewhere - might've imagined it I guess.

It's a pretty crappy thing to wish to deny other people something they might want simply because you don't like it.

I hate to break it to folks, but the DCUC Subscription failing to get off the ground isn't going to be seen by Mattel as "Hmm, well, clearly we need to make our mass-retail offerings more collector-friendly." I guarantee it will be seen by Mattel as "Hmm, well, clearly the collector support for DC Universe Classics is weaker than we hoped it was." In other words, it proves that adult collectors of DCUC are not a large enough or committed enough market to warrant catering to. After all, if they won't buy a product that's targeted explicitly and purely towards them, they certainly can't be counted upon to buy mass-retail offerings.

That having been said, I don't think they've actually updated that thermometer at all. If it's really only at 20% by this point, this subscription idea is pretty much doomed. Kiss completing your JSA, Metal Men, (pre-reboot) Teen Titans, and (especially) LoSH goodbye!

Oh relax.

And yeah I don't like it. So do a whole load of people. Seems like the majority of the people don't like the idea. Hence why Mattel's club isn't doing too well. So it's not "simply because I don't like it." It's "simply because most people don't like it."

Thanks a lot Soundout!

This guy made so many valid points, it blew my head off. Plus he cleared up a lot of things for me and I think I've made my decision on this sub.

To be honest I voted for both RR & BLST via separate computers, but I'd prefer RR. And I give my word that those are the only votes I'm handing in.

Oh, and for anyone who actually has any interest in this Club, it'd be nice if we all could pass this article around to similar forums/sites.

Everytime I check the mattycollector site, the subscription goal is at 0%. Does anyone know what it's really at? I signed up and I know many others did.

I believe it's right under the 20% mark. Can't say for sure though.

To appeal to a wide fan base (as the article suggests was Mattel's intent), you have to think Mattel could have done a slightly better job of selecting the roster that was going to be announced to launch the program.
  1. Atrocitus (Blackest Night)
  2. Jay Garrick Flash (JSA)
  3. Starman (LOSH)
  • Rocket Red (JLA)
  • Shaggy Man (JLA)
  • Metron (New Gods)
  • Swamp Thing (Blackest Night)

Doubling up on possible BL figures including duplicating an existing 6" DCD Blackest Night release (Atrocitus) seems like its leaning a bit hard toward Rainbow Lantern fans at the expense of a much wider range of possible other fan bases. Nothing against them, but why double up when there are so many other fan bases?

I personally have committed to subscribing, but I feel like Matty could have really made this an easier choice for most if they included just one "can't miss" figure that a majority of collectors want. I hesitate to suggest which figures these would be as nothing would truly hit 100% saturation, but there are some obvious options that I strongly believe would have driven the sale of many more subscriptions than the roster that was leaked, such as:
  • Wally West Flash
  • Larfleeze
  • Modern Superboy
  • Dick Grayson Batman (ooh, and add Damian Wayne Robin & Red Robin as a set! Just saying..)

I would hazard a guess that inserting any one of the above for any one of the figures actually announced would drive commitments to the program far north of where they will end up with the current line-up.

Please note that these aren't my personal choices for the figures I want to see (those would be here), but if the intention was to appeal to a broad base of DCUC collectors to ensure that this program got off the ground, their choices really fall flat, IMO. The only figure I want out of the first group is Jay, and I am not really all that excited about him since JSA is little more than a bit of display space in a cubicle to me and it is only my OCD/completist tendencies that tell me I need a JG Flash to finish off the shelf.

Just wondering what might be coming down the pike is enough to entice me to subscribe. As the article suggests, with a limited release someone will want my Starman, Atrocitus, and Fan's Choice figure at (cost + shipping).

Even if they don't pay full cost, taking a hit on several of these figures ensures that some other group of figures will get made that you would otherwise never see.

I hope this view gains traction and registrations start to file in as it appears the thermometer on the matty site is currently as flat as when the program was announced.

I only have a few live-in-person friends who collect DCUC, so I am going to have to put on the hard sell. $250+ isn't for everyone, so I suppose we'll see. If I had to guess, based upon the general response, pricing, and efforts of a concerted opposition, this may not come to pass.

As if I needed another reason not to trust them, but now I have Swampthing. A month or so ago when pics first hit it was a "must have" Then we learned he was over sized...not a deal breaker for me. Then we learned his skin tears...uh oh. But Matty came out to tell us that the mass produced figure will have much better skin...."turst us". Since I have to work during the day I gave my friend the money to order him for me and I've really been looking forword to him...till this morning. I hit the boards..post after post of skin tears and slimey or sticky. As it turns out the slime is to keep the skinsoft and if you wash it off it starts to get less fexable and more likly to tear. So Matty want's me to pay them $40 (with the shipping) for a figure that may degrade in just a few months. Did I miss the Matty post that told us that we would have to lube our Swampthing every so often? Will they replace ones that tear right out of the box?
Well I was able to stop my friend in time and save me $40 on a defective figure. "Trust us"...you almost had me Matty....you almost had me. Now tell me how well you'll treat me if I sign up for your sub.

DC Universe Fans,

It’s been a long time coming and DC Universe Club Infinite Earths is now on the horizon! Golden Age Flash will be the first figure released and we’ve just confirmed we’ll receive our shipment in mid-May. That means the club will launch in May instead of April. For subscribers, we’ll begin processing orders when the shipment is received (ETA is currently 5/12) and sending them out about 10 business days later. Although the club is starting in May rather than April, you’ll still get the nine figures you signed up for in 2012; we’ll just double up on figures for one month in the fall (you’ll have plenty of notice before it happens).

One thing of note: your club order will not be eligible for combined shipping until June, which is the first “renewal” month. You may recall that the first month a subscription order ships, it has to ship separately, then beginning with the second month it will be combined with your other subscriptions.

Okay, enough business -- on to the good stuff! At press time, here is the release schedule (as always, subject to change):

May: Golden Age The Flash
June: Atrocitus (monthly figure) & Metron (club-exclusive)
July: Starman (monthly figure) & Rocket Red (club quarterly figure)
August: Mirror Master
September: Black Mask

Even though he won’t arrive until May, our Golden Age The Flash figure will certainly be worth waiting for! The original scarlet speedster, Jay Garrick, will come with his vac-metalized signature helmet and, like all figures in the line, will feature great details and full articulation.

We’ll post updates at MattyCollector.com as we get closer and have more information. For now, you can look forward to an amazing year packed with long-awaited true collector characters!

Thank you for being a loyal customer - we appreciate your business.

– Matty

You can't buy Metron with his Mobius Chair, that's all. Everything else is still available but at a higher cost.
