Well, my GF has never seen the Star Wars movies before and with the re-release of Star Wars Episode I in 3D got me asking questions.

She is willing to sit down with me and watch them (not necessarily in the cinema in 3D).

Now my question is:

Should we watch them the way they were released?

Episode IV V VI then Episode I II III

Or in order of episode?

Episode I II III IV V VI

Bear in mind she has never seen "ANY" of them before.

Thanks for your Help.

Mine hasn't seen 4,5 and 6. Still haven't got around to having her watch those yet. But she's at least familiar with the series.

My fiance hadn't seen any of three originals (4,5,6) when I met her. I popped her OT cherry shortly after we met.

You gotta go with how they were released originally. If you have older VHS tapes before the special editions, start there. Then ease her in the prequels. Then go back and watch the bluray OT.

Several years ago I was in the same boat- she was not my girlfriend but we were...something.
Anyway, I showed her Star Wars and she kept glancing at me like "this is it? Really?".

Made me wonder at how much stuff is cool because of nostalga and how much is still cool to new audiences.
My roommmate looooooves Starblazers (Space Battleship Yamato) and I'd only seen bits of it- I checked out a bunch from my library and couldn't get through one disk.

Wow, tough call.

The biggest reason to watch the OT first (aside from being the better trilogy) is the reveal near the end of ESB. It's not the same when you see it spelled out for you in the PT. Also, ANH is a great self-contained intro movie that doesn't require you to watch any of the other five films. So if she doesn't like it, she can bail on the rest without too much worry.

Of course, seeing the story unfold chronologically would be an interesting experience. Sadly, I will never know what that's like. But I will always remember my jaw hitting the theater floor when Vader said "No, I am your father".
