I imagine life will change, and perhaps have an affect on how much I collect, but I'd like to think I'll keep collecting in some capacity. I'll also keep coming back to Toy Ark either way. Now it'll be cool to check on this thread in ten years, and see what actually happens.

I've been in this hobby for over 10 years and I'm just now winding down on it. Most likely 10 years from now I don't think I'll be too much in the hobby, but that may not mean I won't come to the boards. We'll see I guess.

Given my prospective career (animation), I'm pretty sure I'll be here in 10 years. I just got into the hobby anyway. Time will tell!

I hope so! I got out of comics and toys for quite awhile (the transitions between childhood and adulthood). In ten years, I'll probably have kids and all that, so that'll give me even MORE of an excuse to buy toys.

OMG, I so agree with gpmartin414! It's gonna suck going to a store with my kids because I'm gonna be so sympathetic everytime they ask for a toy. I guess that's what the wife's for, LOL.

I have been collecting since 1977, I have never really stopped so I don't see me going anywhere even after 10 more years.

I think I'll still be collecting but less mass market stuff and more collectibles. The stuff catered towards us like most of the Japanese releases and the 6" Marvel lines(especially the Iron Man 2 6" series) have more appeal to me than most of what is being released in stores now. With Transformers I am venturing more towards the high end stuff than mass market stuff. Sure the high end stuff is more expensive but I buy them in much more limited quantities. Overall going toward the high end route saves money in the long run. I think Transformers Energon was the big warning sign for me; ever since then I've though at length prior to buying something. I always wonder if the item in question will be appreciable by me 10+ years from now. If I deduct that there is a high possibility that it will, I buy it.

I'll still be collecting so long as the figures I want are being made, and Hasbro keeps pumping out G1 or IDW figures. Otherwise, my collecting will be mostly halted besides the occasional 1:18th Kamen rider figure. As it is, I've narrowed down my collecting to just my marvel faves, DC faves, and G1 'classics' figures. But in 10 years I might be buying for kids at that point. But yup gotta keep my finger on the pulse of the industry to know what's going on. So I'll be here. |

I've pretty much been collecting since 1980 or so (whenever the toys for ESB came out) and I've gone through different levels of involvement with the hobby and the associated fandoms. At this point, I don't see myself going away any time soon. I do think that I will continue to limit my collecting habits, especially as more of my disposable income is redirected to raising my kids. So in the words of Jonathan Davis, I'm here to stay.

From your energon example, I knew once I got them I would hate most of those figures. They were "OK" but not something I would want to keep so I let them be. The only time I ever have that kind of Buyers remorse is when a figure comes out and then a better version comes out shortly afterward, but even then its more of a frustration over why the company not getting it right the first time (Think Storm Shadow from 25th joes for instance). Beyond that I am pretty good at recognizing what I will collect long term. |

I think I'll be collecting for a while, but things could always change. No way to tell.

after 3 years of rabid money throwing for toys, im finally beginning to slow down.. not quitting. just slowing down.. so after 10 years, i think ill be probably out of the hobby. ive finally halted my Super robot collecting. Star Wars come and go. Got everything i wanted for GI joe. Transformers is only once in a while now. Marvel slowed down thanks to the lack of hammer files here. and started very recently on DC but im happy with what i currently have. Long term.. if they continue G1 TFs then i may hang around. for marvel, ill be waiting for the Avengers Movie toys and that 2012. no plans for the rest.. im getting tired of marvel. MS toys get me interested once in awhile DC.. im picking up DCDs here and there, but i think im done with DCUC. the rest are done for me. the future is pretty fluid though.. i could suddenly change my mind tomorrow! |

I doubt I'll be here beyond this year....I'm feeling old...way older than I should feel for being 25......... Getting tired of the endless hunt for things...the crazy amount of money spent on things I turn around and sell 2-3 months later..... I just think the fire that's been burning for so long to collect and literally be interested in toys has started to burn out...since every line I've collected has begun to repeat itself....... the fire dims, I'm just not as greedy as I used to be when It comes to toys....the endless pursuits after that figure or ship...as of this month I'll have completed a long journey to getting my collection complete. I just feel old now...cause I remember the times when all I could think about would be getting that next toy............since I've discovered the joy of things like the Starship Legends line that Art Asylum has and the Quantum Mechanix F-302.............I just can't feel the urge again to buy up little clone troopers and gi joe figures..... because the fact the clones are cheap but compared to spending almost $100 for a F-302 Fighter that looks incredible on display.....I'd rather go with the F-302..... [you can get the idea now that I've gotten tired of buying the cheaper Action figures when I can save up that $$$$$$ for something much better] But at this point.....I doubt I'll even think of toys in 10 years.... Plus I'm collecting Art Prints now...Bought 3 this month and those cost a good bit..... Last edited by Tyjos Azari; 05-08-2010 at 09:56 PM.. |
