Hey guys

I had a question that I wanted to pose to the group. This would be the best group to get an idea from.

This is geared towards to everyone who opens and poses their figures.

What do you do with all the packaging?

I've seen some great collections on here and I struggle with this question a lot. Especially as my collection continues to grow. And looking at all the new stuff revealed at Toy Fair this past weekend, there's a lot of stuff I'm looking forward to getting.

Do you guys keep the packaging? Do you store the packaging or just discard it as soon as you open a figure? I don't mean the cheap blister card stuff, I'm talking more along the lines of Marvel Legends and up.

I keep the boxes for the limited number of statues and Hot Toys that I have, so if and when I move, I have a way to keep them safe.

So I'm posing this to everyone who opens a figure for play or display, what do you guys do with the packaging?

i should discard the packaging, takes up space, also once they are opened the loose their value not that i care , due to being just a loose collector throw it away , i would suggest otherwise be a MOC collector. XD

For me, it depends on the type of packaging & the figure itself. If it's a figure with no accessories, if it does have extras and all the accessories fit on the figure, and/or the packaging is nothing special, then in the trash it goes. If it's a worthwhile package that acts as a good place to store excessive weapons or accessories, then I keep it.

I usually don't keep the packaging unless it's either something really unique or special or if it's for a more expensive figure.

It usually sums up to keeping things like the NECA Alien egg carton or anything from Hot Toys.

I was keeping a lot, but I'm tossing most now.

I keep:
$100+ figures with boxes
$50+ figures that I may sell within a year
Exclusives

Pretty much anything from Wal-Mart etc or ones that could be there, tossed.

In fact, I may even break those rules and toss my TF Masterpiece boxes soon. They are a big chunk of my storage unit, if I chuck them and some others I may be able to get rid of it, saving cash each month. No point in saving boxes for resale value later if you spend extra cash to store them somewhere.

When I was younger, I would keep the cardboard part of the packaging, but now-a-days, the packaging is different.

I don't really keep that stuff anymore. Unless it's something really special, or more expensive than my usual purchase.

I used to go by the same "if bought at Toys R Us or Wal Mart" then I wouldn't keep them. But the Black Series, Icons, and ML line the packaging keeps the small accessories together.

Once I got into the Hot Toys, TF Masterpieces and Figuarts I kept more and more. Half of my collection is MOC (eg. my Diamond Select stuff, some NECA stuff, and some more collector-y stuff like commemorative series, special sets etc) But some of those boxes (esp TF MP) are HUGE!

I'm with Emikd. My collection is small compared to the uber-collectors here on the Ark, but I also don't have a lot of display space, and I have phases where I will try to sell and consolidate in order to use the proceeds to buy new things, and prospective buyers strongly prefer to purchase items in their original boxes, and boxes are easier to stack & store than many alternative forms of packaging, so: given the option, I prefer to buy items packaged in reusable boxes whenever possible, and I keep the boxes in order to store accessories in their proper place, to store the item when I'm not displaying it, and to present it someday to a potential buyer.

I bought a 1000 pack of acid free zip lock baggies that I use to keep all of my accessories in. Works pretty well for the moment and it's much easier on storage than having to keep the original boxes.

The main boxes I keep are the NECA ultimate/video game appearance figure boxes because they have some display value of their own. I do keep some exclusive boxes like the Black Series proto Fett box or a couple of the more neat Transformers exclusive boxes (like the RotF Target exclusive Fallen). Any other boxes though get trashed except for the small paper inserts they may come with (I keep a folder of all my NECA back-slips).

That's what I did as well. I don't have tons of display space so the bags make it easier to store the figures and their accessories. I also had a problem with white figures and soft plastic capes/coats picking up red marks off of Iron Man figures so I'm quite happy keeping everything in bags.

I'm in grad school right now so I'm probably going to be moving in the next couple of years. Because of this, I've been keeping the packaging for some of the more expensive/fragile figures in my collection. Pretty much Figuarts, Re:Edit Iron Man, Mezco One:12, Mondo Leonardo (who a may sell one day), and my smaller Masterpiece Transformers.
