I have a debate raging in my brain, which scale and size is the best? For me there's 5 scales, the biggest and most expensive being 1:1 full size replica, be it weapon, statue, wardrobe, etc. Then there's 1/2 scale more so busts, statues and replicas. The 3rd being 1/6, this being Hot toys, large scale Gi Joe and StarWars. The 4th being 1/12th so Marvel Legends,Marvel Select, Mcfarlane,Neca, etc anything 6-7'' scale. And the last but not least 1/18th scale MU,StarWars,GiJoe. Which scale is the best representation for you to collect and buy. Some people will have display cases full of tiny figures, some have a few statues and ex 1 guy has a lifesize stormtrooper in their livingroom. Everybody's collection is unique, we all have different tastes. So I want to know do you collect only 1 scale, all scales, and why.

Myself I've been collecing 1/6th scale Marvel Icons, Marvel Legends and Marvel Universe. In some cases I love the larger scale because it seems more lifelike and is more badass, but the space needed to display them is limited in my small apt. That's why I only have a few. Marvel Legends to me is a great scale, but Marvel Universe is growing on me, it's cheaper to buy in most cases, less surface to paint when doing customs and seems to have a long future ahead.

It's not how big it is, its how you use it, mate!

I enjoy the 3-6 inch range. I will go 12"+ if it goes into scale with 3 or 6 inch figures [like Giant Man].

I myself am all about the MU, for the reasons you just stated. Really, in just a short amount of time Hasbro has already given us so many characters. I don't mind all the repaints and re-issues too much, you don't have to buy the ones you don't want. This is the line that got me into collecting as well as the only line I collect. I'm also a sicko, meaning I buy everything MU. I think it's sort of like a childhood fulfillment thing, whereas the late eighties Marvel Superheroes and early nineties X-Men toy lines had some sweet characters, I was by no means able to acquire them all. Even if i had, I still wouldn't have many complete teams.

For me, The Marvel Legends line never really appealed. I shudder to think how much room my 260 plus MU and sister line figs would take up if they were a six or seven inch scale! With MU I felt the size was perfect. I also love the cheaper price point and the wide range of characters. Not only can I begin to build different teams, but also the same teams from different eras. 70's Captain Marvel, 80's Storm and 90's Cyclops to name a few. They've still plenty to serve up, but the rate at which they come out (distribution aside) gives me plenty of hope. And that's to say nothing of the more obscure heroes and villains I dig on like Claw and the Wrecking Crew! And what of the little touches like the inscription on Thor's hammer? Or the inclusion of accessory size characters like Lockheed and Groot? I picked my first figures up on a whim at PX in Georgia, and have been hooked ever since.

I AM GROOT!

I definitely prefer 3 3/4" in terms of space savings and practicality, but the 6" DCUC are fantastic. If I had to say a favourite, it's the 6" DC. They're scaled and proportioned well. I don't collect Marvel Legends, though. I always found their arms a bit long and disproportionate. So really, size has nothing to do with the figure's likability so no, it doesn't matter in that case, but if space is an issue, then yes, smaller is then better.

Size usually isn't the deciding factor for myself when picking out a figure. I am a stickler for the detail molds especially on the faces. I guess I generally like the bigger figures since the faces are more details. I also have to watch out for my shelving space though as well.

MU is my fav for both the huge number of characters we can get in suh a small time (much more than larger lines would allow for) and because we can have characters in a closer scale to big figures like the Sentinel.
Stick the ML Sentinel next to a ML fig and it looks anemic at best- the same Sentinel next to a MU fig is threatening and badass.

Agree to the nth degree! Plus, it's easy to do a diorama if that's the scale...

Yes size does matter!

I didn't collect Legends because I didn't want 100 odd 6" figures on my shelves, 100 3.75" figures on the other hand is exactly what I want (and almost have!).

3.75" scale also has the advantage of having vehicles and being roughly in scale with Masterpiece Transformers which I like.

In my mind there's also a 1" scale - Star Wars Miniatures for instance.

Yeah, before MU was announced I did buy a load of Marvel Heroclix. The paint on them was absolutely shocking so I got rid of them (I dare say they're much better now).

Reckon I made the right decision going with MU though!

Yeah thats my preferred scale you can do so much with it, the possibilities for vehicles, and playsets really opens up.

I like the 3.75" figs the most, but I have a lot in the 6-7" range too. I'm a Transformers collector, so they're usually in the Marvel Select size range, but there's no choice for me there.. Same with MOTUC and DCUC. So I guess if there's a choice, and the 1:18 versions dont suck (like dc 3.75" figs), they're my first choice.

Yeah I also have other figures like Transformers i have leader, deluxe, voyager. I also have my horror/movie collection which stands at the 6" scale. I guess with me if its superhero based i prefer the smaller size, where as if its a movie figure i prefer the larger figure for the detail.

MU all the way. Legends figures look too wonky and awkward to me. If be awesome if they made a line of 12" figs that were decent, like the huge gi joe dolls but better. This may be slightly off topic, but if kenners 90s star wars figs had actual articulation, it would have been one of the best toy lines ever made. Their darth vader was perfect and not shriveled like the hasbro version.

Excluding the various size classes that come with being a Transformers collector, I'm firmly in the 1:18 scale camp. I grew up on Transformers, G.I.Joe and Star Wars, so the 3.75" scale is practically in my DNA.

But it's not that I don't like the larger scales. I have 3 IM2 6" figures, a 12" Darth Vader, and a 24" Voltron. Plus, my War Machine collection has just about every size class there is, excluding 12" and above. I'd buy the Hot Toys version too, but Transformers are the only toy line I feel comfortable spending that kind of money on.

I used to collect Marvel Legends as well, but it got to the point where space became an issue (and I was buying characters I actively disliked just to complete BAFs that I did like).

At first I started collecting MU 3.75" scale along with those crappy DCIH line. Then I started wandering off into 6" scale for DCU and Marvel Legends. I've tried to cut down and collect either 6" or smaller 3.75" scale but ill occassionaly pick up something that tempts me in different scales like my Hot Toys Joker or Medicom Mad Hatter.
I didnt care originally and now tend to think of scale when picking something up to fit better and display a little more uniformity in my collection.

Depends on the line, if I want it bad enough it doesn't matter what scale its in.

That said, I would have gotten Thundercats classics if they were closer in size to MOTUC. Because they were 8" I passed.

8" is just too big for me.

I feel the same way about the Thundercats Classics. I was hoping they would blend in with he-Man. The lack of chest articulation on Tigera is enough for me to pass on the line.

If you can get them cheaply, many Heroclix have amazing clear parts that can enhance MU figs. I chopped off the clear blue electrictity around a Shaman (cost me a buck) to give my Doctor Strange some awesomeness:

The Techno fig has these clear orange boot jet parts that make perfect muzzle flash for guns like Cable's or the Skrull's.

Ant Man's Heroclix is WAY better than the MU version- very dynamic.

Lots of great possibilities!
