A rumor has been floating around the GPK forums that a series of Garbage Pail Kids figures is in the works for 2012. I've spoken to some folks who attended this years Toyfare, and they heard nothing about it, nor did they see anyone from Topps or their affiliates there disucssing the subject.

Has anyone else heard anything about these supposed figures? I'm eager to get as much information as possible on them. Specifically if the rumors are true or not.

It was the GPK Underground. I'd post the link to the actual post, but I don't think I'm allowed to post links per the rules of this site.

It's under Upcoming GPK Releases. Post is called GPK Figures in 2012??

It appears that thread started very early in March 1 prior to the latter official mid-March public anouncement of the new GBK movie. There's likely product in preparation of the said film. From the looks of it, given there was nothing at Toy Fair, it may likely be just the erasers they were likely already long ago planning even prior to the new film's public announcement. Its easier to manufacter those erasers in-house by Topps versus licensing them which can take longer than 2012.

Although why they would try another GPK movie is beyond me. Don't they remember the first one was horrible? And not in a funny, GPK way.

I couldn't find anything about new figures, but I did find this article by Art Spiegelman about GPK's creation and how Pantheon prevented him getting credit so not to cause controversy after Maus' release. It's an interesting read.

Agreed, the first GPK movie was, and still is today, terrible. But, I'd really be interested in seeing a new movie if they can do it justice.

As far as the figures go, it's something I'm definitely interested in, so hopefully something will come about from it.
