So I read this article this morning from Big Shiny Robot, where they talk about how at a recent Con' in Arizona Rob Liefeld hinted that he may have possibly seen 8 minutes of test footage from a live-action deadpool movie.
Here's a link to the article: Big Shiny Robot - Has Rob Liefeld Seen 8 Minutes of Test Footage for an R-Rated Deadpool Film? So fellow 'Arkers and fans of Deadpool, what are your thoughts? I personally love what Liefield is describing here, and I would love to see this done right. And it makes me even happier that 'Pool is in full costume in the footage, and I would hope that he keeps it on for the entirety of the film instead of catching a case of the "take off my mask so I can emote-itis" that so many superheros seem to be stricken with these days....

I'd be down for it, 1 it's a character not many kids are familiar with, so an R rated movie makes sense, the content can be darker, edgier and encompass more violence, swearing, blood and guts and nudity. Not sure if they'd have Ryan Renolds back for the role like they did with Hugh Jackman with Wolverine. I defiantly need him in full costume, and not some futuristic design, keep it simple and classic, red and black. I think if the movie did well they could do other character movies and then lead up to an x-force movie.

I'd be really happy if it were true. But considering it's a Marvel movie, I doubt they will do an R-rated version. R-rated movies are harder to distribute and reduce potential profits since less people will see it in the theater. Making it PG-13 gives it the widest possible audience and the largest chance for success.
Besides, Deadpool doesn't really need the R-rating to be good, unlike say Punisher.

I would LOVE for a Deadpool movie to be similar to "Punisher: War Zone", but with a tiny hint of "The Mask" tossed in (some 4th wall comments, an occasional battle cry of "Chimichangas!", etc). Ryan Reynolds is perfect for the character, but his ability to drive an action movie is somewhat questionable since he was, imho, the weakest part of Green Lantern. Sadly tho, comedians generally do not have the build to be a convincing soldier... I REALLY don't wanna see Ricky Gervais in spandex. Carrottop is a steroid hulk, but is NOT funny. Max Greenfield could work for Deadpool too...

I read the Green Lantern in the late 80's ... he was my 2nd favorite DC character (after Batman, of course). LOVED Sinestro, Kilowag, but the Reynolds just didn't have the cojones to come across as having the will power to control the ring. He looked great, just came across as silly.

As was pointed out, the first two Blade films performed well for an R- rated film (we can all pretend the third film never happened, its ok).
I have to disagree with trebleshot on this one. Deadpool needs to be developed for a more mature target audience. He is not a kid friendly character like Wolverine has become, based on the material I read. Any attempt to make him kid friendly will only ruin the character development IMO. He does not have the mainstream appeal of a mass audience in film that a Batman, Iron Man, Superman, Spiderman or X-men can generate. He should receive about the same amount of praise as Kick ass did and hopefully be as successful. Marvel Studios is who said they themselves will not be developing any more R-rated films of their characters after the box office flop in terms of numbers that was Punisher War Zone. However, since its my understanding that Fox would be behind this, Rated R is a good possibility. While Trebleshot is right in that it doesn't need to be rated R to be successful, it does create more options with the content.

Thomas Jane's Punisher had the better story, and villains, and acting, but War Zone had better action, and was closer to the stupidity often found in a Punisher comic (this coming from a fan of the character, too!)... Punisher is a difficult character to make a movie for. He's not approachable like Capt America, Spider-Man, etc, who have an internal compass. Punisher is just a relentless killing machine. Great for a 32 page picture book... not quite for a 90min flick. |

I want NOTHING to do with Wolverine anymore, after Origins. Don't know anything about x-23 other than her appearance in the cartoon and the MvC3 video game, I understand she's a clone, but that's it... so... for your enjoyment... Mila Kunis for X-23...Me, I prefer to keep to the 80's and 90's team. Sure, Fox will butcher it like they have every other X-Men project, but hey, this is all fantasy land.

Yes it was. So were the two sequels. It still could have been done as a PG-13 and still have been good. But I'm glad it wasn't, all the same.
As I said, I would love for the Deadpool movie to be R-rated and I'll be the first one to admit I was wrong if it comes to pass. I will also be the one jumping for joy in line for opening night. It would open so many doors storywise. The problem I'm having right now is that I just have very little faith that Fox and Marvel will do it. I hope they keep Reynolds either way. IMHO, he's a perfect fit for the character and his portrayal of Wade Wilson is one of the few good things about XMO:W.

I wonder how long they have the license for? If and when it expires, I'm betting Disney would love to keep all the Movie rights for themselves and produce/make them.

Xmen first class, wasn't as bad as I thought, not to say I have a ton of faith in Fox either, but they didn't butcher the film as bas I thought they would of. Blade and Punisher are in the same league as Deadpool, a ruthless mercenarior, unapproachable by the public or law enforcement for that matter, all 3 are renegades , all 3 killing machine, foul mouthed and "rude/crude" and every 2 feet they're killing or stabbing something, so the R rating makes perfect sense to me.

Dude, Blade 2 rocked. Now back on topic - This movie can't happen with Ryan Reynolds in the lead. The film industry took a huge hit with Green Lantern and I highly doubt those greedy bastards are going to play the Ryan Reynolds card again for another character, although Fox might just because they're so bad at making films.

As for Deadpool "HAS to be R rated", I don't believe that for a minute. Why? PG-13 movies today would have been R rated 10 years ago. I would love for a Deadpool movie to just be a very simple plot. Imagine tossing Deadpool in a "Diehard" situation... Government sends "Project: Weapon X" assassin to take out Mutant Liberation Front terrorists with "minimal innocent casualties"... Give Deadpool dozens of opportunities for crazy environmental kills, quippy one-liners, and the occasional 4th wall break. If it's 1/10th as good as Zombieland, it'll be 100X better than any other Fox Superhero flick. |

Blade 1 was badass, Stephen dorph was an excellent vampire, his death was a little fucked with the body turning into a giant blob then exploding but it was a good movie, 2nd movie gave us a bad ass vampire, ron pearlman's career restarted with that movie, if not for blade 2 you wouldn't have hellboy and you wouldn't have sons of anarchy, so you're welcome. Blade 3 did suck but it gave us Jessica Beil and hot toys another figure. I'd love a blade Hot toys, but fuck if I'm paying 5-900. damn u ebay!
