He was canceled as LAST years SDCC exclusive. We haven't heard if they have plans to release him still or not.

Am I right in saying he was originally announced at SDCC 2011?
When is the big Marvel SDCC exclusive normally announced?

It's usually made official shortly before SDCC (within a month or so).

They announced his and showed him at SDCC 2011. Orange with shorts. They decided to scrap his for the Helicarrier due to the Avengers success at SDCC 2012. There is high speculation that he'll be back for this year's SDCC exclusive. Some arkers have said they could even throw in Mandarin to hype up the movie this year but we'll see. SDCC gets more crazy and crazy every year. Iceman and I know that best.

If they do not release him green at retail they might as well not release him at all. Orange Fin Fang Foom would quickly end up at Ross/TJ Maxx/Marshalls.

Yeah, Con keeps getting harder to enjoy and exclusives more of a pain to get.
I agree the green Foom should be retail if they do it but I actually want an orange Foom. Only because orange is my favorite color and he'd look great with Red Mandarin.

At SDCC last year they officially said he wasn't going to be made. Maybe that will change in the future.

What would you like to as the exclusive(s) this time around?
For the small one, I would love the 3 pack Asguardian set they have shown. Mostly for the.Executioner for my Earths Mightiest Heroes Masters of Evil. For.the large one.....maybe a bad ass groot, comic style? Or another large vehicle.would.suit my tastes. Even a nice playset like Ant-Mans lab or a base of someone's. As long as it is big but not dumb. Foom would .be ok, but the baf is good if your needing one for your collection. I like him in theory, but I.would rather.get something that has never.been made..... What about you?

T'be fair, what we were shown wasn't even FFF proper, but instead Jormungand in his form. Presumably, we would have gotten the real deal as the retail variant.
Oh yes, marginalize one of the central villains of Marvel history. That's right.

I kind of have to agree w/ Spacemafia here. I didn't really see the appeal of the figure beyond a few hardcore collectors. I saw how long the Sentinels, which were on everyone's want list, have sat around at TRU. They are still readily available. At this point I think Hasbro would be better figuring out a build a figure model for Fing in the Legends line rather than a separate figure. This would likely ensure a much larger number of figures actually make it to retail.

The silver/purple sentinel wasn't on anyone's want list. That's why those didn't sell. They produced a ton and the ones we all wanted never made it to stores. They could only be found at a few online specialty shops and then at places like Ross and TJ Maxx for dirt cheap. They already BAF Foom. I do think that at the very least kids would be into Foom just because he's a big dragon. I don't think it will happen but I do think he would have sold better than the funky sentinels.

While I get that I don't see how FFF reaches out to a broad audience. By the summer kids will be Sentinel crazy after the X-Men movie but ask them about FFF and my guess is a big "Wha?". I just don't think it would sell as it is large and the price point will be high as a result. If this was truly on people's want lists I think the figure would have seen the light of day. Collectors like us just don't make up enough demand. And even as a huge MU collector I just don't see me buying one of these. At least not at retail prices. I did buy the Sentinel and the repaint but I just wouldn't do so for, as was stated above, a big dragon in diapers. I could think of a dozen better large scale figures that would be worth the price.

For me I don't mind the big scale MU like Galactus and Sentinel, I have both the con exclusives which I enjoy because of the card art. Since the MI is replacing it, I may be less so in getting them because it would be too plain to me. I take it when Galactus retail was released he didn't peg warm as bad as the Sentinel one did? The Shield Helicarrier was cool to have, but it was so freaking long that I didn't want it taking space for me, and it didn't fully scale well with the MU's. IMO they should stick with figures and leave the vehicles and what not alone.

I wish some Sentinels made it over here.... I'm not too picky about the colour. Imagine not getting any figures in your stores.
Vehicles, playset and bases are my favourite part. I just opened a MOC Vision two days ago, so I could care less about card art. Bottom line is, Hasbro makes more from Play-Doh sales then from all figures combined. The collectors market is less than 5% of the figures sales, they don't care about us. Monopoly is their big money maker, I'm just glad they bother making Marvel at all. That being said... we have to depend on the internet to get ANY figures here in UK (usually) I don't know if they will make FFF or Northstar.... To be honest, I just want something fresh from Comic Con.

I will check that out Jimmy... thanks for the tip!
Edit... looked at them, £80 a pop, thats $135 each in green backs. Need at least two, but we all know they like to travel in threes... might throw them a cheeky offer of half price as they have been about awhile.

These days you have those cheap titan (or whatever they are called) figures and are large and parents would probably go that route because its so cheap. You see Star Wars putting out that giant X-Wing with no articulation and minx paint for cheap. They know that's what they have to do to be safe. The larger or more expensive stuff that gets rejected by collectors warms and that says something. The Helicarrier, Sentinel, MTT, most platinum Transformers, etc.

My point wasn't that kids know who FFF is, because they don't. My point was that kids like dragons so people would buy it for other stuff like some of us do with figures from other lines. Kids haven't been exposed to sentinels and they didn't know what they were. Parents that aren't collectors didn't recognize the sentinel as something they were familiar with because the color was off. With the rising cost of production the price was higher than most people wanted to pay. It could have worked better of it was a little cheaper and had the right colors. The fact is that collectors rejected the retail version and that means a lot more shelf warming than otherwise so the whole concept is a failure. Galactus sold a lot better for sure.

I was able to snag a helecarrier, sentinel, and galactus all pretty cheap ($25 or less) so maybe FFF wouldn't do too well at retail, which is why he would be a great con exclusive. The novelty of a dragon could make him sell well at retail who knows. Bridge direct should be making a Smaug, I might just buy that and throw some green paint on him and call him fin fang foom, either way I know I want one.

Foom would have been perfect for SDCC. Instead Hasbro cheaped out and decided to swap in the Helicarrier instead. I am interested to see what their Smaug figure actually looks like and how big it is. I don't even know if that thing is going to be mass retail I can't imagine it would be.

I love our super helicarrier, we are S.H.I.E.L.D. army builders, though. Maria Hill is a must have! Customs are ok, but if a factory made figure exists... that is the way we go. Different strokes I guess. We wish Hasbro did more playsets an vehicles for MU..oops, I mean MI, or just marvel 3.75"(even though they are more like 4.25")
Or just 1/18 scale....but they are really 1/15 ... now my brain hurts. I like little marvel men from Hasbro....there, done.
