Marvel has released an official image of actor Chris Hemsworth in Thor costume. This is the first official image from the highly anticipated upcoming movie. While it is not an entire body shot, there is enough showing to get an idea of how he will look, and if you ask me, they nailed it. Can't wait to see some footage now.

There is also an image floating around of what appears to be the Destroyer. This has not been confirmed yet, but it looks pretty legit. Things are looking crazy awesome for the Thor movie. What do you guys (and gals) think? Excited? Look good? Look like crap?

THOR is scheduled to be released on May 6, 2011.

I can't wait for this movie! I love that they used the current Thor costume for the movie. Also the Destroyer is spot on.

No classic costume. No lame helmet. Dead on destroyer.

This movie looks to be doing everything.... RIGHT!

Sorry but I hate thor's classic costume. His updated one for the comics and film looks way more 'thor' like than the campy classic one.

Count me excited now. Movie is shaping up to be great, not hokey, and all around fitting for 'warriors' of asgard. As opposed to 'fashion nightmares of asgard'. Can't wait!

More new pictures floating around the web today, this time showing full body shots of Chris Hemsworth in Thor garb. These are just artist renderings but they do look pretty legit. No confirmation if they are real or not but wanted to share with you all.

New picture of the cast members of Marvel's Thor gives a clear look at Anthony Hopkins as Odin. Also present is Tom Hiddleston as Loki, which to my knowledge is the first image of that character released. I'm excited. What do you think?

Thor has also been confirmed for post process 3D. I beg you all to avoid any film that uses post process 3D. If it's not shot in 3D, then it's not going to look good.

You know, I totally agree with you. I have seen the difference between the films that have been shot in 3D versus post-production 3D, and there is definitely a difference. However, there are some people who actually regard the post-production 3D process as being superior to shooting in 3D. Christopher Nolan, director of The Dark Knight and the upcoming Inception, has stated that he prefers the post-3D because of the freedom with the camera. The 3D cameras are very bulky and supposedly inhibit the cinematography while filming. This is coming from one of the most highly-regarded directors currently working in Hollywood. While I don't take his opinion lightly I still think that shooting 3D is the way to go based on the results I have seen thus far.

that's not entirely accurate. what nolan actually stated in his la times interview was,

"There are a lot of problems with it (shooting with a 3-d camera)... the idea of shooting a whole film through a massive beam-splitter and so forth -- there are enormous compromises. Post-conversion technologies probably, for me, are definitely the future, but really it is up to the audiences what they want to see and how they want to watch their films."

so it seems he sees utilization of post conversion technology as the future of the 3-d medium (for him, anyway). but what i gather from the interview is that he doesn't really care for 3-d at all.

I kind of miss the horns on Loki, but I understand how they would look ridiculous in "real life." Thor and Odin look pretty good so far. It remains to be seen what they'll look like in action.

I find it interesting that Michael Bay has been quoted as saying that filming in 3-D doesn't seem to affect his ability to film or his schedule at all and embraces it. Of course this is Mr. "Explosion/Car Chase/Explosion" himself, so take from that what you will.

Personally, I have yet to see a movie that had post-conversion, but I've heard enough complaints about them to be wary. I just hope the remainder of principal photography on Thor keeps the 3-D aspect in mind going forward. Maybe it won't turn out so bad.

it makes me wonder what filming with an imax camera is like. i've read those things are massive and can only hold 2 1/2 minutes of footage per load.

Avatar pioneered the current version of 3-D and was the first movie released in that format (AFAIK). It's the main reason for the sudden increase in demand from the studios for 3-D films and why a lot of them are either being filmed in 3-D from the start now or being put through the post-process prior to release (such as Clash).

Another image from Thor has appeared, courtesy of the latest edition of the LA Times. Odin's throne room is pictured with Odin himself sitting in his kingly throne and Thor kneeling in front of him. Also included in the picture is (from left to right) Thor’s adopted brother and nemesis Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Queen of Asgard and Thor’s step-mother Frigga (Rene Russo), and Thor’s allies Hogun the Grim (Tadanobu Asano) and Fandral the Dashing (Josh Dallas).

Loki appears here wearing his helmet with the long, curved horns. Very cool looking.

Thanks ludovicotek for the pic. Kinda puts to rest a fear I had that they might not use Loki's trademark helmet. I know it's kinda silly looking but it has become such a staple of the character. This movie is really shaping up to look like an awesome epic.

That's what I hoping for too. It can easily go either way, but I have high hopes that this movie will kick major ass.
