First off i have really been enjoying thor comics recently so i decided to go to a local toy shop and pick up the SDCC ages of thunder Thor. The figure looks great and i really mant to mess with it but i dont know if should open it or not. I realize that the figure is being released without the helmet but like a lot of people i am weak and really want a thor figure to mess with that isn't the modern or the classic version and every time look at i feel a deep pain in my stomach so...

like you said, the SDCC is being released in like october or something. So ignore your stomach and buy it when its cheap at target. Dont pay more for the same thing.

You found a SDCC Thor at your local your local toy shop? Nice. Yeah I wouldn't touch it. Just mess with the retail one coming out soon.

Open it and enjoy it. People said the EXACT same thing about the Captain America figure, and there is a HUGE difference between it and the SDCC figure. Maybe that won't happen with the Thor figure, but usually there is a difference between SDCC exclusives and regular releases. This is really the best Thor figure they have released, in my opinion, so why not enjoy it if you bought it?

To me, buying a figure an not opning it is the same as buying a comic and not opening it- the cover might rick, but you need to explore what's inside to get the real enjoiment from it.
I collect action figures, mot action figure boxes. |

I could buy another to keep in the package and open this one but being a seventeen year old with a low paying job i don't know if i will be able to pick another up for some time so it will have to stay in the packaging for now.

I say open it.
I got one from Hasbrotoyshop.com after SDCC and opened it. I wasn't very impressed and regret buying it. I put him back in his blister pack/ box and stored him in the shed. |

This thread has inspired me to check ebay for this thor. I found one loose for 22 bucks! And i couldnt find a MOC one that was over 40, so i hope I can snag a packaged one for a decent price after the retail version comes out.

Again, its all up to personal preferance. I dont know how many times ive heard people on this forum say, should I open this? The SDCC Thor will most likely never be worth more than what it is now. I think people are worried about opening because of value but something like this is not really that rare. I picked mine up from a forum member on tfw for 20 bucks shipped MOC. I kept it on card and then realized that I wanted to take some pictures with him and then continued to open him. Use an exacto knife to cleanly open the bubble in case you want to display him on card. Look at it this way. You can sell him loose for 20 bucks easy and ship him for only a few bucks. MOC you might be able to sell him for 30-35 but then again, now the shipping price goes up so either way you make about the same money in the end. Keeping brand new toys MOC is kinda pointless IMO unless thats all you collect.
For those still looking for him, check around on the forums and you might find a good deal on him besides resorting to eBay. I used him here for my group Avengers shot and Destroyer pic if your interested at all.

oh man, cant wait for the retail version now. Im taking off the helmet-less head as soon as it comes out of package and replacing it with modern thor's in order to place him with my classic avengers.

I say open it, I want to say that this line with the exception of a few mailaways and popular harder to come by characters is gonna be like star wars potf everyone was banking on keeping their collection moc and look at those figs now they go for pennies, everyone is collectong this line so I don't expect there tobe a major increase in price. Long story short, its all up to you, me personally I can't keep anything on card except my sdcc black/white cap. My brother though can keep things moc forever, I tell him"you can't play with them inside the boxes, free them from their plastic prisons.

Be aware - that Thor had a HUGE noggin'. The Avergers 3 pack Thor might have a better head that would fit better.

Im just hopin' they havent messed with the "neck nubs" too much.
I did the same thing with some wolverines. The head on the xavier school wolvie for example, i replace the heads if i want an unmasked version for any of his other costumes. |

Probably would be a better idea now that i think about it. I think the Ages of Thunder thor and the 3-pack thor use the same body correct me if iam wrong though.

Cuz it looks so damn good next to those figures and i have all of them except the hulk and goliath. I freaking love the modern Thor and the only classic thor i have is the 3-pack one and i don't really care for his headsculpt i need to add something new to my avengers display.

I don't know if it was made clear above but the AoT Thor coming at the end of the year is slightly different than the SDCC one in that he doesn't have a helmet (Samson head) and no grey wash all over him.
