I have plenty of ideas just not the internal knowledge to make it all work.
The major your looking for is Industrial Design. I was doing this for a while. Its exactly as you describe.

With all this subscription stuff and mattell movie the dcuc stuff to subs and gi joe getting a sub i am terrfied that the days of non media based ttoylines (gi joe that aint movie crao tfs that aint movie or tf prime stuff etc) will vanish. hell i remember TRU used to carry some off the wayy japanese robot toys...i had this one thing that was like a mix of blue an white police car with 4 wheels on the front and on on each side on the back and some kinda futuristic indy car with silver fold out wings on the back...hell now tru BARELY carries any action afigures at all that arent centered around a media outlet. Hell i had a lotta cool off the wall toys from tru that target and k-mart (yes at that time fail mart hadnt become a player yet). i tell you i miss those days when i could walk into a store and by a robotech alpha fighter at k-mart for 35 bucks (THE BIG ASS ONES)

Cool, I can't wait.

I bet you'd be able to mix and match parts and paint decos too.

Most likely but what do you see changing and how will the evolution of toys be?

To me an interesting question is the future of toys of certain scales. As long as there are children there will be toys of some variety or other. But its interesting to note that certain scales rise and fall in popularity. In the 70s 12" was the scale of choice. In the 80s. 3 3/4" came into vogue. In the 90s and early 2000s 8" was popular and 12" made a resurgence. Now a days 3 3/4" is back with a vengence. As an almost strictly 3 3/4" to 4" collector I'm loving this new heyday. But I'm also gobbling up product greedily knowing that some day the larger scale will see more new product and the smaller scale stuff will takeb a back seat for a while.
