My local grocery store surprised me and upgraded their toy aisle so they had in wave 1 of the Classified line minus a Snake Eyes, this is actually the first time I've seen all of wave 1. I picked up the remaining SE and Destro, I'll probably wait until my birthday at the end of the month to open them. Even just having them in box though man Snake Eyes' guns are pretty terrible, or at least the pistol is. The holes are really confusing. I know this line is deliberately going for the non-real effect with the guns but only Snake Eyes' guns have been hole-punched.

I prefer the helmet over the hood because it's more distinct, but I could still see them doing the hood later. While the hood does conjure certain imagery that's kind of the point. Cobra Commander is the bad guy. I mean we've still gotten toys of the Red Skull and he's a Nazi.

I don't see how Today's Political Environment would have any effect on this at all.

Evil man bent on world domination with a rogue army that wears a hood? I don't have a problem with it, but it's just RIPE for for people who don't understand context to scream and cry about it, and want to get GI Joe "cancelled"...

Okay. I see. But you jumped from talking about not releasing a Hooded CC to the Entire COBRA Organization be Politically Charged.

I was able to finally grab Baroness today thanks to pop finder and a nice employee who has helped in the past.

^ Nice! Yesterday I checked popfindr at like 6 am and it showed 1 in stock that wasn't there a few hours earlier. That Target opens at 8 am, so I checked again at like 8:10am and it was gone. I just imagine like 5 guys waiting outside Target running for the toy aisle to get that 1 Baroness.

I came across Baroness today and grabbed her despite not knowing for sure if I want to get into this line or not. With the way everyone talks, this could have been a "Buy now or regret later" type of situation if I do choose to get into it and I didn't want to take that chance right now. I haven't opened her though since I'm going to spend the next 3 weeks deciding what I want to do.

^ It's Target... you can wait 90 days to decide to return it I think... unless you need the cash or something. I am not collecting Classified Joes either, but I will buy Baroness if I ever see her since her design is so close to the classic Baroness design and just keep her for local trade bait just in case they never re-release her.

Somehow you are able to find Baroness on the shelves. If you visit Hisstank.com you'd find a thread with 600+ pages (and counting) of peoples' stories of trying to find the Cobra Trooper and Baroness. Basically you have no chance of getting one unless you were there at 8am and ask an employee to get it from the back, that is if there are not already 5-6 other dudes waiting there at 7:45am.

Well it's the hot new toyline, plus they're good figures, one of them being an army builder, amd then you gotta figure Target probably under-ordered, since there hasn't been a GI Joe line on shelves since Retaliation, so they probably didn't want to overstock on the off chance Classified was a dud.

I'd say both. Although sometimes I think the line between scalper and collector is kind of blurred.

There are no shortage of scalpers selling Cobra Troopers and Baroness on eBay for 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x the retail price for sure. There are no shortage of collectors that insisted they needed 10+ Cobra Troopers for their collection. Hasbro's problem was to make the Cobra Trooper - a known popular troop builder - to be a store exclusive. Target's problem was somehow selling out their inventory within 10 seconds online on day 1, and now have sporadic shipments depending on stores. Popfindr also make the hunt more competitive, as dudes are skipping or going to work late in order to line up outside Target stores at opening time knowing there are shipments that arrived inside. It's like a string of perfect storms that cause this current frenzy. |
