I decided to go with a Tiger Rat in a desert camo loosely based on the A-10's "peanut" scheme. I used the same method for this as the Conquest with laying down the first color and masking off the patterns only I used slightly larger hexagons." The HUB has posted quite a bit of behind the scenes info on the creative team working on GI Joe Renegades! They have gone over the following roles:What we have here is a crew very passionate about their work on the upcoming cartoon. Edgar Carlos background designer When I was in school I drew pictures that only classmates and teachers could see. Now I work in animation and create pictures for the whole world to watch! School is the best place to start telling stories in drawings or words George Cox background painter & character color stylist When I was a kid, I spent a lot of time with my grandmother, and she taught me how to color with crayons in coloring books and how to stay within the lines. We used to talk about the names of the colors, what they represented and how color helps define not just what something looks like, but also how color can inspire emotion and expression in the world all around us. To this day I use what she taught me to help create the world our animated characters live in, from choosing the colors of the trees, the sky, and the people to painting scenes of happiness, sadness or excitement… And I still stay in the lines (most of the time)! Brandon Mickinney storyboard artist You draw a picture of a character doing something, you've got a cool drawing. You draw another picture of that character a moment later, now you have a STORY. You've just done Sequential Art, one of the most powerful forms of storytelling there is. Armen Mirzaian storyboard artist If I were to choose just ONE favorite thing in life, I would choose drawing. I have been drawing ever since I was young. And the best part about having a job in animation, especially as a story artist, is that it really isn't a job…it’s something I love to do. So if you like to draw, just keep on drawing and there is a good chance you'll end up in animation! Scott Bern director When I was a kid I would draw pictures that told the story of things that I did during my day: building a bike ramp with my friends, going to the pet store, or having an ice cream sundae. I liked to come up with ideas to make these stories even more exciting, so I drew rocket bikes zooming around giant looping ramps, pet stores on another planet that had really weird animals, and what it would be like to have an ice cream sundae if I was only two inches tall (I could swim in the chocolate sauce!). Now it’s my JOB to draw pictures that tell exciting stories, so I’m a very lucky guy who gets paid for doing one of my favorite things to do! Nathan Chew director/storyboard artist Waaay back in the day when I was a kid, I used to sit around for hours after finishing my homework, trying to draw characters from my favorite cartoons and comic books, which, by the way, I still do. Only now, as a Storyboard Artist and Director, I get paid for it. It’s my job to take the written words of a script and make them visual. Bottom line, I tell stories through many drawings. I find it’s a pretty cool way to earn a living…jus saying! Randy Myers supervising director You don't know what you don't know. Once you make up your mind to follow your dream, the best plan is to figure out how to achieve that goal. In most cases that means increasing your knowledge and ability in whatever field you choose to pursue. And there are three ways to pursue that goal, the first and best way is to go to school, find the best school you possible can and do whatever it takes to get in. The second is to find a mentor, a smart, talented individual who is willing to talk to you and teach you and help guide you on your way to your goal. The third and hardest route is, get your foot in the door, start at the bottom and work your way up. Whichever path you choose to take I guarantee you one thing, by the end of your career you will realize how much you didn't know when you started. Scooter Tidwell director All I used to do in school is draw. When I was supposed to be working, I’d be drawing. Man, if my teachers could see me now! In my job you still need to be able to read and write, but you get to draw! All day long! Jeff Kline executive producer You never know where the germ of a good story is going to come from; absolutely everything you learn in the classroom, and in life, could be fodder. Lorena Gallego casting coordinator Having the opportunity to work with extraordinary actors such as the man who brings Optimus Prime to life is one of the most exciting things about my job in casting for animation. Also, I love being able to contribute my own creativity into each story and getting to see those choices come to life when the character speaks Gerald Kaye production assistant I was always the creative type. I spent a lot of time as a kid sketching around, coming up with my own cartoon/videogame/anime worlds and characters. Now that I’m older, I can see that animation is the perfect place for folks like me: folks that want to hold on to their passion for creativity. Every day, I watch worlds come to life, filled with ninjas, robots - even ninja robots! This is quite possibly the coolest job on the planet Tracey Marzioli production assistant I love working in animation because it's a job where using your imagination is encouraged. I get the opportunity to help bring stories to life and it's really rewarding to see it all come together on screen. Amanda McCann production assistant Cartoons are my favorite form of storytelling because anything you could imagine can come to life. As a production assistant on GI Joe, I get to be a part of that creative process Tom Wolkiewicz production coordinator I remember getting up early on Saturdays, pouring a big bowl of Fruit Loops and watching cartoons all morning. At that age, I did not think that it would be my job to actually make the cartoons. It can be hard work, but it is fun and exciting too. Everyday I get to bring imagination to life and relive my childhood. At the same time I am making memories for the children today. |

The big, attack transport helicopter of the SK Omega team, the Owl is able to transport vehicles and carries enough weaponry for offense and defense. It's also one of the 1st vehicles for the line. |

While the GI Joe A Real American Hero line lasted 15 years in the toy aisle, it left a gap at retail once it ended, one that could only be filled by, more GI Joes! 3-3/4" scale GI Joes never seem to stay down, and towards the end of 1997, they returned to toy shelves exclusively at Toys R Us. For the next few years, small scale GI Joe repaints would be exclusive to them, until the mass market relaunch with GI Joe VS Cobra in 2002. All new molds and vehicles came into play, and the o-ring would take a brief hiatus during the 1st few waves.
Another hiatus would be seen in 2005 leading to the emergence of Sigma 6. During this time, small scale GI Joe wasn't entirely killed off, as it would end up in the Direct To Consumer(DTC) line. Then, as we are all familiar with, small scale Joes would get another facelift with the revered GI Joe 25th Anniversary Line. The 25th line raised the bar for Hasbro, and 25th construction is now the standard they go by and build upon. Does that mean the o-ring Joes are forgotten? Does this mean that since the 25th line gained a lot of steam, that the prior lines are forgotten? Of course not! There were a good many releases from 1997-2007, and if you ever wanted to know about these releases, or if any of them piqued your interest, HISS Tank boards member KuuKuuSon has got something for you! Thanks to HISS Tank boards member Gyre-Viper we have a press release for the RAHC Guide , with exclusive images! Thanks to HISS Tank boards member Gyre-Viper we have a press release for the RAHC Guide , with exclusive images! This comprehensive and meticulously detailed guide covers each and every release during a decade of rebirth and revival for GI Joe. Coming soon, the adventure continued in 1997 and is now completely documented in the R.A.H.C. Guide! After a brief hiatus in 1994, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero gained a resurgence in pop culture causing a re-release of some favorite characters in their classic molds. This revival eventually induced some experimenting with these classic characters in bold and exciting new directions. Not only did fans get to revisit some of their most cherished icons within the G.I. Joe mythos, they were introduced to new characters that are now known and loved. This full color, 172 page compendium fully explores all six series that were produced within the second generation O-ring torso era (1997-2007) including the Built to Rule line and the Collectors Club special releases. This guide beautifully illustrates the era's 689 action Figures, 135 vehicles and play sets and 1,349 accessories including all known variations. Not only is every accessory present and accounted for, they have each been assigned a unique number and identified throughout the resource guide. The accessories are then culminated in a separate section clearly displayed and organized by category. Each action figure has been carefully examined between its initial run and further re-releases to ensure that an accurate sample is clearly and concisely presented for the collector who is identifying individual action figures or sorting through unorganized lots. HISS Tank boards member Gyre-Viper has obtained the latest preproduction sample of the Volcano Viper repaint, this time, featuring arguably more sinister colors than earlier samples seen this year. Could it be from GI Joe Renegades or perhaps an additional wave of Pursuit Of Cobra? Bear in mind folks, we've got a long way to go until Fall 2011, the scheduled release date for the Renegades line, and with GI Joe Pursuit Of Cobra Wave 4 scheduled for release in early 2011, there is ample time for this Volcano Viper repaint to sneak in somehow.
Until then, check out more of this figure after the jump! |

Earlier today, an auction(which has ended) was posted by viperkingdom for the highly anticipated and long awaited Cobra Shock Trooper from GI Joe Pursuit Of Cobra Wave 3. Like the Jungle Viper before it, it's a new Cobra troop builder, and also proof that something brand new, and not necessarily derived from GI Joe A Real American Hero, can be a hit with the fandom. This figure alone appeals not only to fans but to customizers. Perhaps kids will also have fun with all the swappable accessories.
Preorders for wave 3 are still available at site sponsors SmallJoes and BBTS. This figure will hopefully be available soon(actually, it's available now at BBTS!). Until then, feast your eyes on this leaked sample! |
