Ask Sideshow Q&A - Spooktacular Edition

Quote:
Your Questions Answered - Spooktacular - 10/26/09

Q: Has Sideshow thought of going ahead with the 12-inch Friday the 13th line? I’m still waiting on Jason from parts 5, 8, and Uber-Jason. Also what about Leatherface or Chop Top from TCM2?

A: Yes, we are currently looking at ways to update Jason and Leatherface, but we’re not sure if it will be in the 12-inch figure line or in other formats.

Q: Sideshow is undeniably the BEST! But have you given up on the Vintage Monsters? Are there any new dioramas featuring them in the works? Any new 12 inch figures of them coming out any time in the future(Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease)?
-AND-
What’s the word on more vintage monster dioramas and life size busts? They are just awesomely done!

A: We hear you Monsters fans! We plan to be back in 2010 with more classic monsters products, plus some in new formats. Stay tuned!

Q: Comic-Con 2009. No Universal Monster items? Why?

A: Blunt, to the point, and valid. We took a break from Universal Monsters to reassess our design agenda, and we believe we’ll be able to revisit the property with some fresh perspective and design ambition. Universal Monsters releases will be slow for a little while but will pickup again in late 2010 and into 2011.

Q: I happened to notice the picture of the ultra sweet Jason Premium Format from FRIDAY THE 13th Part 3 as part of the memorial auction for Diane’s family, and since I know that I’m not going win an Ebay auction against people with same passion but with more money, is there any plans at all for a piece similar to it to be offered to the mass population?

A: Yes, we do have plans to bring Jason back to life in Premium Format, at some point. At the moment, we’re currently in development on other full-sculpture Jason products, similar (in spirit) to the recent “Fred in your Head Diorama” (Freddy Krueger).

Q: I love to watch what Sideshow is creating, plenty of Star Wars, Marvel, Terminator, Predator and… and… well not much about classic Star Trek. Isn’t it a universe worth visiting a bit more? Wouldn’t mind to have a PF of Uhura as a start to side with Kirk and Spock. Would think in another style Klingons NG should appeal to some as well. Any chance?

A: We do talk about revisiting Star Trek from time to time, and the recent film definitely got our inner Trekkies fueled up. We’ll pass along your enthusiasm and see if it stirs the pot at all.

Q: At Comic-Con, you unveiled plans to produce a 20+ inch Optimus Prime maquette. Are there others in the works such as Ravage, Bumblebee, Jetfire, Sideswipe, Arcee, Megatron, The Fallen, Soundwave, etc.? Does the license pertain strictly to the Transformers sequel or will considerations be taken for the first movie for characters such as Blackout, Bonecrusher or Jazz?

A: At this time, we are only in development on the Optimus Prime maquette. We have discussed concepts for several other characters and product types, but we’re not ready to share those ideas just yet! We’ll let you know how things develop!

Q: When can we expect the Optimus Prime Maquette to be available for Pre-Order?

A: Optimus is currently in the ‘refinement’ stage; we’re still working through aspects of the digital model before we move forward with creating the physical prototype. We likely have a couple of months of development work left to do before the prototype will be completed. It’s possible that we’ll have Optimus available for a full reveal and pre-order within 2009, but it’s MORE likely to be early 2010.

Q: Would you consider creating another statue of the original Predator? I revisit the PF/maquette version that you created a few years ago, and I am still amazed at how beautiful and detailed it was. No on else has come close the quality that you bring to this subject/character, and I am sure I am not alone in this opinion and request!

A: Absolutely - the original Predator will reappear in full-bodied form, in some format, at some point.

Q: As a follow up to your beautiful Predator 1 life-size bust, is there any chance that fans will get a Predator 2 bust in the near future? If so, I would love to see a closed mandible sculpt that has a more aggressive look!

A: Yes, we do plan to release a Predator 2 Life-Size Bust. We’ll pass along your facial expression suggestion!

Q: I was wondering if you guys were or could consider making a 12” Holograph Darth Vader or Amanaman?

A: Amanaman has been discussed but is not currently part of our development plan. Holographic Darth Vader is an interesting suggestion. We’ll check in with the creative team and report back if there’s any news. (We haven’t heard anything yet.)

Q: I was wondering if Sideshow was planning on visiting the Mos Eisley Cantina for future 12” figure ideas? Top picks for me would be first and foremost Momaw Nadon (Hammerhead), Dice Ibegon, Greedo, Ponda Baba, Takeel (Snaggletooth), Wuher, Ackmena and Dr. Evazan. Have any of these been considered for 12″ or are any in development?

A: Yes, yes and yes. The scum and villainy of Tatooine will likely play an important role in 2010 and 2011, perhaps beyond!

Q: When will the Premium Format Gambit that’s getting all they hype be available? Any chance of a sneek peak soon?

A: Yes, you’re likely to get a sneak peek very soon! He’s definitely worth the hype! He won’t be the NEXT Premium Format Marvel character to get a full reveal, but he is definitely coming soon.

Q: I love the new Venom Comiquette, whitch brings me to my question. Will we see a Carnage Comiquette treatment soon?

A: Yes.

Q: Any plans for a Deadpool Premium Format Figure?

A: Yes, you will see Deadpool in the future, although it’s too early to say whether it will be Comiquette or Premium Format.
