Has anyone else heard about Travel Channel's new show 'Toy Hunter', premiering August 15th?

With the auction/storage/pickers trend all over TV these days, its no surprise toy hunting is next on the slate.

Great idea. The trailer looks cool. This could be my new favorite show!

i remember we on this site had a discussion on this show, I think we had mixed results. We ended up on a debate whether or not this would create more collectors and quickly inflate values, having a repeat of the 90s comics market. Or, worse yet, another beanie baby fiasco, only this time its with the stuff WE collect. But, it all depends on whether or not this show survives/ has enough viewers.

I think kids and adults will like this show. I look at other sub par shows and wonder how they stay on the air. The premise for Toy Hunter is promising. If anything it will create more awareness and provide a platform for the growth of the culture. More people will pull boxes from attics, filling the market w goods.

'Demand effects value' in most cases, so the impact remains to be seen.

I watched the 1 hour pilot they had back in March (I think) and I thought it had promise. I'll give it a chance at least but I don't know how long it will last. In that pilot they had a prototype of the 80's mail away "Rocket Firing Boba Fett" which was great but they also had a prototype of an unreleased - unannounced Thundercats toy. I felt when the host took them to comic con to sell it was all scripted and fake. I know a lot of these "reality" shows are staged but I don't like seeing that in my hobby. I feel that it cheapens it. Though like I said above, I'll watch.

Hey guys....you know If this show takes off well all be paying higher prices for our figs. As if we aren't paying high enough already. Every bloodsucking dealer and dealer to be's would want to cash in on this therefore taking all the fun out of action fig. Collecting.....so... saaaad.

Well, the guy buys and sells VINTAGE toys...I dont think he touches new toys in his show. Also, I dont remember if this show had a PILOT only, or a few episodes already...

It seems a little set up to me...

The scene I watched had a LCS owner "not know" he had a rocket boba fett just sitting in a box in his shop....17,000$ later...MY ASS...

Still a show about toys will have my attention...

EDIT: So yeah I did see ther pilot...there are SOME Cool parts, but expecting us to believe that someone (who owns a Comic shop) didnt know what the BOBA was worth...

It's just like Pawn Stars or any other show of the sort. It's all set up. Like you said, the guy with all the original SW figs ina box doesn't know about his Boba Fett? Right, that's as believable as that fat ass Cory on Pawn Stars knowing everything about every item that comes thru the door. Sorry, I've been to plenty of pawn shops and they don't know dick about dick... In one episode Rick was telling a gun dealer about the history of his original Gatling Gun. Like the owner had no clue? lol C'mon Reality TV is anything but real.

Still. I saw the pilot for this a while back and wondered why I hadn't seen more. The Mad Bubbler Thundercats figure he gets is BAD ASS!

I've only seen one episode that has aired numerous times. Its the one where he goes to the NYCC. Its the only one my DVR seems to record.

IMO the cool thing about the Toy Hunter pilot was that you very rarely see anything about toys from 90's... seeing those Batman figs were cool.

I think the only real fallout -if any- from this will be a increase in those idiots that try to sell beaten up olds toys for stupid prices.

"But original transformers are valuable"

"yeah, original ones, complete in the box. What you have is a crappy old starscream with one arm and no wings and he has He-Man's head on. You'd have to pay me, to take it"
