I want to get just the OT, but with even more changes occurring to them, it's making it less desirable. And since Lucas hates the theatrical release, I highly doubt we'll get them. Tough call.

True, but with the whole series set, you get the deleted scenes from the OT that haven't been release before at all. (I have an old SW computer program that had the deleted scenes from ANH, but not RotJ). I think for that alone, it is a must-buy.

Not necessarily. I mean once they come out, you know people will post the deleted scenes online. I mean some of the edits and deleted scenes have already been released.

I do agree that all the featurettes, and makings of, and deleted scenes, and bloopers do make buying a set worth it, but the point really is watch these great movies in hi-def and I'm just not that into the newly tweaked special special editions.

I need to see these edits. Eye lids on Ewoks? I like how they cleaned up Empire's hoth sceens but the Cloud City suff looked rediculous with the actors being in the shade yet surrounded by light. Don't get me started with jabba's palace. I wouldn't get the set right away even though my only copy of the origional trilogy is on VHS but there good VHS. lol I would hold off and make sure a better package doesn't come out, Then I would get it no matter what changes were made.

Sorry, I meant, if you are going to get the blu-ray edition, it seems a better buy to get the complete for all the other stuff. But I do think the big seller for the $89 set is the deleted scenes ... among the other featurettes.

I agree with other posts - when will Lucas stop toying with the original trilogy? Mess with the prequels all you want. Insert a better Yoda in Phantom? Great. Stick Jango Fett/Boba Fett in every prequel? Fine. But there is no reason to mess with Empire, unless to clean up some minor things. The "No!" added to RotJ is sad and pointless. It is taking one of the worst elements of the prequels and adding it to Jedi, which had enough problems.

I will eventually get it, as I've gotten every other major version of them that has been put out so far. But it will probably have to wait until Christmas, since money is tight right now.

I will probably pick up the boxed set, simply because of the extras and the fact that it's cheaper for me in the long run.

Well, until the next media format comes out and they get re-released again. For that release, Lucas will probably add a scene showing Greedo going to Han's house, killing his dog and setting his apartment on fire before tracking him down to the Mos Eisley Cantina.

He's a perfectionist and owns all the rights to the films, except distribution. He will never stop unless he finally remakes them altogether. And even then, that's not a guarantee.

Of course, I agree that he should stop. The original trilogy was just fine on its own. Its timeless appeal and the generations of fans should be enough proof of that.

There will be a time in the future where he will edit all 6 movies into one huge feature with or without intermissions in the middle. And I'm sure at that time the latest media will be able to store it all and then some.

What sucks is I have the original trilogy on VHS. I bought the dvds when they were release. I pre-ordered this set. And knowing me 5-10 years from now when Red-Ray or what ever the new format is comes out I will prolly buy that too. Technology sure knows how to hurt my wallet

Yes, I pre-ordered mine last month from Best Buy. They included a free film cell from Revenge Of The Sith as a bonus.

I've read the deleted scenes, documentaries, etc. won't be included with the individual boxsets of the original movies or the prequel movies. You have to buy the big boxset to have those. That's fine by me as I liked all the films and I look forward to seeing them on Blu-Ray.

One thing that does amuse me though is the ongoing argument about changes to the films vs. leaving them alone that's taking place over on Amazon. I've never seen a group of people get so rabid over a series of films.

I'm of the opinion that if George Lucas wants to tweak a scene here and there, go for it. It's his story to tell as he sees fit and not John Q. Public's tale.

I think Red-Ray has been done. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that how DVD discs were read?

Anyway, I don't think there's any other type of "ray" coming anytime soon. One of my friends works at Best Buy and he tells me they're downsizing their printed media sections due to companies like Netflix putting out high quality streams.

At first I didn't believe it until I went to pick up X-men First Class on Blu-Ray yesterday. Now I'm of the opinion that his statement could have some merit as the movie section has shrunk considerably and has been re-located in the back of the store since I last visited a few months ago.

I assume you mean HD DVDs that were released around the same time as Blu Ray. O know the box was red not sure about the actual format.

I don't have a bluray but if I did, I would not get this. I hate the changes he keeps doing. I don't mind cleaning up some scenes but things like adding Hayden at the end of Jedi really piss me off since I hate that actor. I only bought that on DVD because it has the original versions which is what I wanted. No more new versions for me.

By the way, did they EVER clean up the square boxes that are around the TIE fighters? THAT's the kind of stuff that needs to be fixed. Also, a better computer screen for the Millennium Falcon and a better computer simulation for the Death Star when the rebels plan their attack.

No, I was referring to how DVD's were read. The laser was red with DVD players.

Here's a link to a FAQ on the differences between Blu-Ray vs. DVD: Blu-ray.com - Blu-ray FAQ

No more physical media anymore. The future is all digital. Downloads/Cloud. I actually don't like that. This is getting a little off topic, but companies are trying to move towards an all download/streaming model for their content. So, instead of buying a physical copy of the movie, you have to download or stream it to whatever device you want to view it on. What makes it worse is that some of the major companies are pushing to an all streaming model, where you can never outright buy a movie; you can only stream it. So, let's say you pay $5.00 to rent the movie. You can watch it as many times as you want within a certain time frame (let's say a week) and then the next time you want to watch that movie you have to rent it again. They're trying to get away from allowing consumers to straight up buy it so they can watch it for the rest of their lives without ever having to pay again. Of course, there's always gonna be ways to get around this, but that's the direction they're trying to go in.

I've still got the original VHS releases of the movies that I bought starting in 1982 with Star Wars on up to 1986 when Jedi first hit the home video market. I also have the VHS boxset from 1995 and the VHS Special Edition boxset from 1997 in widescreen.

I've been supportive of many of the changes that have been done to the films over the past 14 years. The re-do of Mos Eisley that was first featured in 1997 was a good change and looked even better in the 2004 DVD release. I imagine it's going to look even better on the forthcoming Blu-ray release. I've also seen the leaked Ewok eye-blink on Youtube and it doesn't look bad.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter what my opinion or anyone else's opinion of the changes and tweaks are. It's Lucas' story and if he wants to add, delete or change things, go for it.

When I upgraded to Blu-Ray earlier this year there was a plethora of various services you could get via an Internet stream piped through the player. I was curious about it, hence my asking my friend at Best Buy about it. It could be one of the reasons why Blu-Ray players have dropped in price lately.

In addition to what you mentioned, there's also the monthly membership fees one has to pay for services like Netflix. I don't know what it currently is as I don't subscribe to a rental service but I imagine it's going to go up as printed media circulation slows down.

I'm not crazy about this movement to go to streaming movies either. But it appears that's where it's going to wind up ultimately.

I don't have a BR player. My Dad does but I don't want to go into his theater room all the time to watch blu rays. I doubt they come with Digital copies...it is George Lucas after all...
