I just started this and I can already tell that it is going to be a pain in the ass. The sculpting has the consistency of Play-Do so I'm not really happy with it, but I figure I can seal it with paint if i need to. Any suggestions as to what I should do to make this little project easier?

Your a trooper dude, I wouldn't even attempt this due to all the sculpting. However I should suck it up if I ever want to make a ton of AoA figures... I'm sure the end result will be great though!

If you put the clay in the fridge/ freezer it may harden up a bit if it's softness is what is getting to you.

Thanks man. I've been meaning to try a custom, but never got around to it. I had to sacrifice an MU Cyclops and a GI Joe Reptile Trainer but it is worth it if I can get some decent results. I would have just used a wrecker body but I don't have many figures left in my collection and that isn't one of them.

It's starting to dry and harden, but it flakes alot and I was hoping for a smoother end result. I might try light sand paper, but I don't want to ruin what I've already accomplished. Also, the gaps between the sculpt and the base figure are going to be tricky, I need to find a good skin tone paint to use in order to make the figure look the way it deserves to. The brand of clay I'm using is called "Super Dough", so if anyone has advice about this product (it was all they had available at Hobby Lobby) I'm all ears.

what kinda clay did you use? I use super sculpy, you can buy it in a 1lb box that's fleshtone colored for $20 or tiny blocks in a rainbow assortment of colors for like $2. It's very maluable and easy to work with, you can cure it using a simple hair dryer on low heat and a good 1-2 feet away from the figure for only a few minute and then the stuff becomes rock hard, it can be sanded, sculpted and painted and is very cheap. I suggest getting some of the small colored blocks, can't go wrong with white and black, together form grey and can be used to make ammo, pouches, weapons or just random sculpting work. I buy mine from Michaels, use the 40-50% off coupon and your set. if you find super sculpy 2 soft to work with there are different degrease of firm, very firm etc, they have ratings, the more firm the clay is the closer it is to wax for sculpting. also for Banes tubes, I'd suggest going to a hardware store and head to the plumbing section, you can get clear plastic tubing in very small diameters for dirt cheap, theres even 1've seen before that's a neon green color you could get it and get a slightly bigger 1 to fit over and would look sick, reminds me I'll check my hardware store for ya and if I find some can get ya like a ft of it for a couple bucks.

Apparently I used crappy clay, which is more like Play Doh. I hate it, it keeps flaking and falling off. I looked up what you were talking about but couldn't really figure out what to use.

Can a couple of you guys who are more experienced at this please post some links to the products that I should be using? I really hit my stride when working on Bane but the quality of the clay killed it in the water.
