is it the razor licker cover? is the soundtrack just re-mastered or is it an entirely different soundtrack? I haven't actually watched stoker's Dracula in probably ten years! I remember it, probably THE definitive vampire move, but it seems like I always catch it on TV in progress, watch about an hour or so, then find something else during a commercial. I'm going to have to pick the new version. thanks for reminding me.

Bram Stoker's Dracula is terrific. It's faithful to the source and Gary Oldman is a great actor. We have to acknowledge the huge negative of Keanu Reeves' terrible accent.

The Fog - Except for the fact that Jaime Lee Curtis serves absolutely no purpose in this movie whatsoever, it is fantastic. It has a ton of atmosphere and mood going for it and the plot, while basic, really keeps you engaged to the TV to see what is going to happen next. An 8/10.

Yeah, the one with the razor. It's remastered. The video was remastered in 4K and the audio is remastered in Dolby Atmos, or Dolby TrueHD 7.1 if you don't have an Atmos receiver.

Yeah, that is what I love about. It still takes liberties with the original novel, but it is the closes adaptation of the book out there.

I actually don't have a problem with Keanu. He isn't in the movie much and it's not like Jonathan is that emotional of a character.

Two horror flicks that scared me as a kid were the original Exorcist and the story of "Amelia" from Trilogy of Terror (1975).

I think Stan was the practical effects guy that designed and built the Pumpkin head suit/ puppet/ animatronic. He also did the terminator, predator, the dinos in Jurassic Park, and I think Iron Man... but don't quote me on that.

Stan Winston has done a lot of films and is considered to be one of the special effects greats, he even has his own school for special effects.

I was merely referring to the fact that the Pumpkinhead monster was one of Stan Winston's best, not that he directed the film. Sorry if I caused any confusion.

Jurassic Park was hands down my favorite Stan Winston creation, cause freaking dinosaurs. The T-Rex's roar still sends chills up my spine.

JP is one of the few movies over ten years old whose effects really hold up (except the CGI, my spoiled 2015 brain notices the flaws in 90's CGI tech). I miss the practical effects of old horror movies, especially the really over the top, buckets of blood gore. the best for insane special effects was Wish Master, so bad it's good!

I love me some Jurassic Park. Seeing how they handled the raptor effects is freaking amazing and the movie was a milestone for integrating CGI into live-action movies. It does a great job at carrying many different elements with adventure, action, horror and suspense, sci-fi, and humor. John Williams was also able to give us another wonderful score. Nostalgia for the first movie was very present when I watched Jurassic World, by the end I thought it was decent/good though glaringly bipolar. In one scene we're seeing families having fun, then a monster dinosaur kills five people in horrific ways, and then we go back to families having fun for awhile World wasn't nearly as good as Park but I found it at least enjoyable for a watch.

Halloween month continues with a look into the Boogiepop franchise. From novels to movies to television, this series was a phenomenal hit in Japan.

Halloween III - This is such a great movie and probably the second best entry in the franchise. It does something unique and original and it is a shame people didn't like it just because Michael wasn't in it. Talk about being selfish pricks. :-) Anyway, there is so much going on here with its atmosphere and weird execution that it just relishes in it. In fact, this was probably the last true Halloweeny horror movie to come out until Trick r Treat in 2009, which is also a shame. Overall, a great 8/10 stars.

The Shining - Such a great movie full of atmosphere, mood, with an excellent score and incredible cinematography. I love the shots that just follow the characters from in front or behind. Unfortunately, it isn't perfect as Wendy is about as bright as coal and Jack Nicholson's breakdown into insanity doesn't come off as natural as he feels insane right from the get go. Despite these flaws, it is a 9/10 movie as it is one of the best horror movies ever made.

have there been any good horror movies this year? I thought the babodook, or how ever you spell it, would be good but I was left unimpressed. Sadly, the last watchable horror movie I say was the latest Chucky flick, it got away from the pure gore/comedy it had become and, I thought, really brought the character back to his roots. The comedy was toned down from over the top stupid puns, back to good old fashioned mean spirited jokes at peoples expense. which makes the character more cruel, and less cartoonish to me. plus the set up, and story were probably the most original of the series.

I thought the Babodook was alright, up to the point of the 1980's "Masters of the Universe" monster noises. After that, my brain mentally checked out and I had a hard time sitting through the rest of the film.

I'm not sure if anyone knew about this, but it definitely hasn't been mentioned here. Seems the CW is looking to bring Jason Voorhees to us in a weekly format...

‘Friday the 13th’ TV Series in the Works at the CW

I just hope that since it's the CW, we'll be able to...

A. Get a series that doesn't pander to the younger generation, allowing us generous amounts of stalking and great kills, (which I imagine will be held to a minimum since Jason could literally kill the entire cast in an episode.) But still, since it's the CW, hopefully the kills and gore itself will not be toned down (like MTV's Scream has been.)

B. Finally get us that Supernatural/Friday the 13th crossover that was hinted back in as early as 2009. Since the show will be following a detective on the heels of Jason's tracks, would be awesome if the "FBI" were to send some of it's best (Sam and Dean) to do a little investigating of their own.

I just hope they don't attempt to "develop" Jason into some TV version of himself, who does some sole searching and decides to atone for his past (I'm looking at you USA network Howling series). honestly a Friday the 13th series would be really hard to write, it's not like Jason wanders around a lot, and how many kills could he possibly achieve before people realize LEAVE CRYSTAL LAKE! I think the show would have to be done in almost a Walking Dead style, awesome season premiers, lots of filler episodes with no memorable events, and a good finally. as far as a supernatural crossover goes that would take a master writer to pull off, Jason won't stop until the guys are dead, they wouldn't stop until he's dealt with. If they were to have an encounter, and everyone walked away I'd feel cheated. plus didn't he already fight one of them in the reboot?

The CW? Where Green Arrow forgets to wear a shirt all of the time and that show is made specifically to pander to the same groups as Twilight by creating a love-triangle with Deathstroke and more. I don't watch Arrow because the early teases and what not looked dumb to me, but all of those shirtless posters of Oliver and reading about all of the romance-drama absolutely killed that show to me. I hear the Flash is a lot better.

Let's pray that Jason isn't presented as an emotionally vulnerable teen-appealing shirtless ripped guy who deep down just wants to be loved and shares an ex-girlfriend with the detective hunting him down as to build emotional tension.

Yup. The guy that plays Sam was in it. I thought it was pretty good actually.

Here's an excerpt from the producer of the new Friday series Long Mitchell on what they are shooting for...

“I don’t think we really wanted to do a show about a guy with a machete chasing girls in tube tops. We couldn’t do that on a weekly basis… So what ends up happening is, a cop comes into town, looking for his brother. He realizes his brother was there searching into the past murders, and realizes that his personal story is tied into Jason’s personal story.

What we’re going to do is basically acknowledge that the people came to this town after these killings happened, and they made all these movies. And now the town has a stigma. Our show is, ‘Here’s the true story. Here’s the real story of Jason.’ It’s been taken and exploited. So we have the young crowd who doesn’t know who he is except for what they’ve seen in the movies. The older crowd is afraid of him. We have a lot of people who have scars from him. The underlying thematic of the whole thing is that Jason is a monster in this town. He openly wears a mask. But everybody in this town wears a mask. Underneath those is the monster.”

Going off of those comments, it kinda has that feel that is the basis for the recent reboot/remake of "The Town That Dreaded Sundown", where the crimes from the Friday movies actually happened, movies were made to document, and the murders start up again by either a copycat, or the actual Jason Voorhees, who has since returned from the grave. I've repeatedly read on site after site how they want this Jason to still be the hulking maniac, while rooted in reality (similar to what the reboot shot for...) so hopefully they'll realize that a strapping, handsome, Dexter-type 6 footer with a six pack is not the way to go and is more liable to alienate fans than it is to draw them in.

Whether or not the show could last more than a season, I'm unsure, but it still could make for an entertaining 13-24 episodes if done right.

Jared Padalecki did appear in the Friday reboot as Clay, while Jensen Ackles appeared in the reboot/remake of My Bloody Valentine, which both came out in theaters a week apart from each other in 2009.
