Guillermo most definitely creates excellent fantasy art. Pan's Labyrinth was one of my all time favorite fantasy movies...and all around movies as well. In the vein of fantasy, I'd love to see Guillermo's take on Forgotten Realms' Drizzt Do'urden...man, I would love to see that.

Like you, I also enjoyed Pacific Rim. Although it's an unfair comparison, Godzilla blew it out of the water from a 'total-package' perspective. Looking forward greatly to Ultraman!

I hated Pan's Labyrinth. I was told it was Labyrinth meets Hellraiser meets Neverending Story and was the greatest fantasy story ever told. I watch it and it was about some Spanish girl with a vivid imagination to stop thinking about her abusive bastard of a father with maybe 10 minutes tops of fantasy stuff.

Well okay, hated is not quite the right word. I was more disappointed and bored with it than straight out hating it since it was a well made movie, it just wasn't the movie I wanted.

I can understand why someone might be bored watching Pan's Labyrinth. The movie has very little action, a key component for many American movie goers.

While I like action, I can also stomach (dare I say, enjoy?) a movie without it. All of the scenes in Pan's Labyrinth (both within the child's vivid fantasy and without) were shot with meticulous beauty and expressive purpose. Obviously, the movie was meant to turn on its ear the expectations of the viewer. If some of the responses and comments regarding it are to be believed, it sounds as if Crimson Peak may be more of the same.

I was bored by many fantasy movies considered to be classic (or at least noteworthy); Labyrinth, Dragon Slayer, Ladyhawke, and Legend just to name a few. If a sci-fi or horror movie is deliberately lacking in the 'bang-pop!' department it'll need to have one of three things for me: a powerful narrative, transcendent performances, and incredible/stylized/haunting visuals. Throughout the film, Pan's Labyrinth had some combination of all three of these things, hence my high regard for it. But...meh, to each his/her own. While I used to watch a lot of movies, flicks rarely (very, very rarely) motivate me to go into theaters any longer....they need to be special, unique, or standout in some way for me actually participate in box office.

Sadly, I didn't find out about Gunnar Hansen's death until after the con, otherwise we would have done a memorial tribute, since he was one of the only slashers we didn't see at the con coincidentally. R.I.P. Gunnar. Your Leatherface was simply the best, and definitely one of the creepiest and most eccentric killers the big screen has ever seen. That scene where he first appears, from out of nowhere, hammer in hand, is still one of the most disturbing and shocking scenes I've ever seen in a horror film to this day.

Thank you...it's much appreciated! It's a labor of my love for the film, and I will probably be retiring the costume this year (It's just a bit too much to wear.) My GF and I do Sam and Jason every year for the kids at our local Comic Con, and this year, we were able to get a friend in to be Michael Myers. It was a fun day to say the least!

I have the throwing darts as well, but the Comic Con was really strict on realistic looking metal weapons this year. I find it hilarious, because they wouldn't let me bring in throwing daggers with plastic tips but metal handles, yet they were selling freaking katana blades and metal throwing dagger batarangs just a few feet from the entrance!

It's never too early for Halloween IMO. It is a slow day at work so I just finished watching "Southbound" on my phone. I liked it. It's different from the horror movies I've seen lately. I first heard about it during the previous to the Deadpool movie. There are quite a few scenes that are very dark and hard to see with the sunlight on my phone but other than that, I enjoyed it.

It's the last day of September which means October and Halloween are just around the corner. I'm reviving this thread with my latest horror pick up, the ultimate ED2 Ash.

Ash vs Evil Dead also starts up again this weekend!

I'm SOOOO excited that you decided to dig up and revive this thread, ESN !

I've spent the past week pondering what my countdown to Halloween movie (and TV) marathons were going to consist of this year, and so far, I've decided that I'm going to revisit the Alien series (even 3 and 4 ), the Predator series, and finally the AvP movies (which I haven't seen in YEARS).
Concurrently, I'm going to finish season 1 of Ash Vs. Evil Dead, on Blu-Ray

Also, after a few of those damn "What to Watch After 'Stranger Things' " lists introduced a lot of my friends to Monster Squad, I'm looking forward to watching it with various groups of friends who had inexplicably never heard of it.

Beyond those, I think I'm going to just pick and choose from the seasonal additions to Netflix, and hope that I find something worthwhile.

If memory serves, the first time I ever saw that movie (and at the time I had no idea it was directed by the director of Monster Squad) was on one of those odd-ball, late-night weekend, schlocky basic cable programs like USA Up All Night, or TNT's MonsterVision.

Lol, damn, those shows had a huge influence on me as a child. Until recently, I had all but forgotten about them, which is a shame, since they exposed me not only to SOOO many great B-horror movies, but also to many horror, sci-fi, and even a few anime, classics.

But anyways ... yeah, I think I may have to add that one to this year's line-up !

Did any GOOD horror movies come out this year? I'm racking my brain and all I came up with was krampus, and the one with Maggie from walking dead and the doll boy which must not have been great sence that's pretty much all I remember about it.

Krampus was last year.

This year has been an excellent year for horror movies. The Witch, The Conjuring 2, Don't Breath, The Shallows, 10 Cloverfield Lane, and I've heard Lights Out is really good.

Avoid Morgan though. The trailers make it look like it is a horror movie, but it's first hour is a science fiction thriller while the remaining half hour is a science fiction action movie. It's basically Ex Machina meets Bourne. Oh, and The Forest down right sucks.

If you haven't seen it, and may the gods help me for saying this, but check out The Visit. It was Shamylan's movies from last year and it was actually ACTUALLY quite good.

Question, out of curiosity, what slasher icons have NECA made figures of? I know they have a video game version of Jason out, and there is a Part 3 version coming out, but didn't they do another version? Did that Freddy from the original Nightmare come out yet? Hvae they done a Michael?

I like Friday the 13th, but not enough for it to be that high. Part 4 is my favorite of the franchise.

I've only seen Black Christmas once, which was on the big screen two years ago with a pretty crappy looking 35mm print. I liked it, but I wasn't blown away with it. I need to see the movie a few more times and I plan to pick up Shout!'s brand new BD coming out in Dec as it supposedly has a brand new transfer that doesn't suck.

As for The Haunting, I've never seen the original.

NECA has done a ton. A few Michael Myers (Classic and RZ remake), a ton of Jason, and a bunch of Freddy. Other horror properties they've touched on are: Regan from the Exorcist, House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, Patrick Bateman, Tall Man from Phantasm, Carrie, Hellraiser (which had quite an extensive collection), The Crow, Beetlejuice, Sam from Trick or Treat, Lost Boys, Ghostface from Scream, Evil Dead, Chucky, Saw, Grindhouse, and of course, Leatherface!

This is not a complete list…I'm not currently looking at my shelves.
