Not everybody does drugs, but a lot do, same with collecting toys, the whole point of this thread is that we all have something we're not willing to tell the general public, we all have skeletons in the closet, but is collecting toys 1 of them for you? When I was younger I got no love from chicks for collecting toys, but then found my my most recent gf she's like wow you got a lot of stuff haha, she doesn't love the toys but doesn't fully hate them either, everytime she buys a new purse or pair of shoes I say ok toy shopping for me then lol.

I do drugs and have conversation with my toys. It isn't easy being a toy these days...

The only one of my friends that gives me flack for collecting toys smokes ciggarettes.
I have a pretty solid (and obvious) rebuttal when he starts talking crap.

look at all the people that gamble, ply Lotto, smoke, drink...whatever. Look at al the people that drop hundreds if not thousands into their smartphones and electronic gadgets.
Or sports crap...ot (oh my god!) fishing stuff!

No fisherman can point a finger at anyone. Ever.

Let's just say I'll be keeping a eye on this one.

As for the original question, I've been collecting toys for over 20 years now and I've reached a point where I just don't give a damn what others think anymore. I have toys on my desk at work and displayed in my living room at home. Thankfully, I married a woman who graciously puts up with it and even helps out from time to time, though she doesn't really understand it (the hobby, I mean).

I posted on FB today for the first time about my toy collection, not all of my friends know I do.

I was surprised at the overwhelmingly positive response I got.

And for all of those people that think it's silly or stupid to collect toys?

Meh, like I give a f**k what they think.

There is always going to be someone like that. When I was doing photography in Afghanistan, one guy gave me a hard time, just could not understand why anyone would want pictures. Period. Really? Blows my mind.

Whether I collect toys or do drugs really never comes up to be honest.

I have a lot of "Sports Crap" too.. I'm also a huge hockey fan. I think that's something that helps me out tho. I have a pretty broad range of knowledge of Toys, Comics, Movies, Music, Video Games, and Sports. I can talk about any of these things all day.

Like don't even get me started on my New Jersey Devils.. I'll talk your ears off, then I'll tell you all about Iron Man

I think it depends upon what toys you collect and what drugs you do.

Some toys are more socially acceptable for adults to collect than others.

The same thing goes for drugs. Someone who shoots up heroin likely wouldn't start a thread about it on a toy forum.

Word I hear ya, if you are a high roller and can afford fancy display cases, Hot toys, sideshow collectable statues, bustes and life size pieces, then yeh your shit is gonna look like a badass mini muesem that most guys would be drooling over, and girls may appreciate. But face it most of us don't have a set up like that, if you're moc you have walls of figures and boxes, closets full, to the open collector who has shelves, displays, and random areas covered in battle posses and stuff. We the collector buy the toys based on love affairs we have with the character, due to design, story line, or childhood memories. We critique them on articulation, paint sculpt and detail, and then pose them next to fellow brothers to fight and die and in epic battle diorama. We custom make pieces and parts and even whole figures to suite our need to "have it all" or imrove upon a lack-luster design. Telling someone ppl you buy toys.collect toys, make toys gets you some odd looks sometimes like wtf, most of my friends are cool and somewhat amazed, atleast from my male friends. I have a Chinese folding screen I put infront of my display when I leave for work and when ppl are over, if ppl are interested I show them but I don't force the collection upon people. I do smoke weed, drink, cigarettes and it's funny how all 3 of these are bad and in some cases illegal for us, but they are more socialy acccepted forms of stress relieve and an outlet then say spending $50 on a wave of figures. It's just kinda funny what people collect, but honestly to each their own, the person who laughs at your collection secretly collect little ponnies that's my theory. My gf's mom collects things with roosters, I tease her saying she really loves the cock, or wow that's a big cock you have there is that new? lol. My sister collects, alice in wonderland, lilo and stitch, and cat type collectables, My mom has a bunch of dolls and china ornaments but not an avid collector, my dad is all into the records, lp's,45's, colored vinyl, picture discs and hockey memorabilia. I collect toys, music, movies, games, and artwork/decorative pieces.

All I know is, when I go to orientation for a new job, or at school or whatever, and the person facilitating the orientation has everyone go around the room, introduce themselves, and say a little bit about themselves, I never mention that I collect toys.

You know I like some of you guys so much more after reading this. lol Reminds me of going to the GI Joe convention for the first time last year in my back yard of RI. Now here you knew everyone was there for the toys but who would be cool with pot? It did not take long to find a couple great guys that were down for a puff. The next year we doubled our group. It's always nice to know that no matter where you are for a convention some one's holding.

I've collected toys and art ever since I learned to stop destroying my toys as a kid. My mother was a second generation antique dealer and collecting was encouraged. I think there used to be a stigmata about telling people you collect something. But now I think it is more socially acceptable. I put art and toy pics on face book, I don't care who sees them. A pic of me smoking a J in the back of a limo def not. Although I think more people know I smoke at work than people that know how many toys I have at the house.

I think it is great that most of us have found a significant other accepting this addiction. The first thing I did when looking for my girl was making sure she was good with the drugs. Didn't want that to be an immediate turn off. The toys came next. She still doesn't know exactly how much I have but I get packages monthly and she has not said anything yet. Fingers crossed. Great thread.
