Anyone notice that out of all the Wolverine toys Hasbro showed this year....NONE are from the movie?

LOL

I think they too, caught on that the Fox movie costumes are boring and no one will buy them.

Hell I'm not complaining, the Legends figures look great! Except for Cyclops..something rubs me wrong about that sculpt. The All Stars?

Leave them to Ross. I don't buy 1977 Star Wars figures reincarnated as Marvel. Nah.

I haven't seen anything from the Wolverine movie yet, miself (Meaning in terms if stills, publicity, or what not), so I don't really know what the costumes look like.

But speaking as a DCUC guy, I have to say the Marvel Legends... especially the ones from Wolverine are getting increasingly better. Still don't like the hip designs at all, but over all the sculpts are a lot more fluid and solid than they used to be. And proportions are getting less weird looking.
I've also noticed Mattel AND Hasbro have both upped their game when it comes to headsculpts for women. And ML in general have much improved their female figures. (Too bad Mattel no longer has the place to make a new female body sculpt)

So yeah. Chalk me up to impressed for the Wolverine Legends line.

I've seen some screengrabs...typical "HEY WE ARE FOX AND WOLVERINE LOOKS SOOOO COOOOOOOOLLLL IN A WIFE BEATER AND JEANS AND OUR MATRIX RIP OFF XMEN COSTUMES ARE SOOO AWEEESOME AND MODERNNNNNNN NEVERMIND THAT MARVEL STUDIOS USES MORE COMIC ACCURATE STUFF AND THAT AVENGERS MOVIE WHUPPED OUR ASS HARHAR MORE NON-COMIC COSTUMES FOR OUR COMIC MOVIES FOR US!!!"

I agree with what you said about the figures. However I don't like how Hasbro seems to only be using the Elektra/Maria Hill/Sharon Carter buck for nearly all of their newer female figures. I think She-Hulk and Red She-Hulk are the only ones that don't.

Good call on their part to repaint the X-Force Wolverine into the ASX colors, however though I think it's cool, I think they should have made a new mold or new parts. His current custom has lining on the legs and torso. Small details for sure, but accurate.

Still this repaint Wolverine has a much better sculpt imo compared to Toy Biz' ASX Wolverine from ML wave 12.

You haven't seen that cool Wolverine in the suit screenshot that came out last week? Good stuff.

Did somebody say they are doing Wolverine All-Stars? Link?

yeah, that's actually how Silver Samurai looks in the movie, same with the hand ninjas, so the 3.75" toys are actually of the movie characters. In short...Mark Millar's presence as Fox's Marvel movie consultant has resulted in keeping things more in line with the comics for this film.

Also, keep in mind that for Iron Man 3 Legends line, those are all mostly comic figures too with the exception of the movie Extremis armor and the movie Iron Patriot. I would imagine that the second wave for both lines will include more movie costumes.

Not sure what you didn't like about the Astonishing or Phoenix 5 Cyclops. Both looked amazing and he definitely needed an upgrade to his astonishing costume from the last figure, IMO.

That's cool that Millar was able to consult..but is Hugh Jackman really going to sport a tiger stripe or orange tracker costume? I would be FLOORED if so but it might just be that suit the dude above linked.

Hahaha, that was the one exception. Sadly, unless Marvel gets the X-Men franchise back from Fox I doubt we'll ever see tiger striped wolvie on film regardless of who the Marvel consultant is.

The dress suit is likely just for a scene in the movie. I expect to see him in his typical white wife beater and jeans for the most part, however, if he doesn't get in some traditional Japanese wear for at least the samurai flashback scenes that are inevitable I will be very displeased.

Movie-wise, there's nothing that really needs to be made.

This movie would call for wolverine in about 3-4 different costumes. All plainclothes cept for the robes. Yakuza are just business men. Ninjas they've got tons in GI joe to pick from. So pretty much Samurai is the only one that'd need a figure and who knows if he even has a costume in the movie.

This wasn't exactly a film that needed a movie series. Though I would have liked at least a re-issue of the brown jacket wolverine. I need a new one.

Is that a movie version?

Didn't look like the new comics one, so wasn't sure. Definitely isn't the classic one.

It's a bit too Darkstalkers Bishamon for me. Doesn't really feel like Marvel's Silver Samurai. Feels like a Capcom recolor/ripoff. So if that's the new comic design, well that's my opinion of it. If it's the movie one, that opinion isn't changing.

It is a little disappointing that XMOW figures had 15 p.o.a. but these new ones only have 5 p.o.a. much like the WATX figures.

I actually prefer the xmen film series costumes over the comic costumes. Well, X1, x2, and x3. First Class there was NOTHING I liked about it. As anyone who has been to a comics convention can tell you, Wolverine's yellow and blue spandex costume does NOT translate into 3D well, especially the silly mask.
Wolverine's costume was very faithful, with the "stripes" details, and Cyclops' with the large blue "X" similar to his original X-Factor costume... Jean, Storm, and Rogue's costumes were very disappointing, and could have use a little more flair from the comics...

As for Avengers whupping Xmen, well, think about it for half a second... with the exception of Ruffalo's Hulk, each character has had at least one or two movies prior to Avengers, and had an excited fanbase, then you stick them all together, and you have 7 or 8 characters the audience knows and loves all on screen together, interacting... With X-Men, the ONLY characters who get ANY development or screentime are Wolverine and Magneto. The non-fandom audience got no feel for the other characters. In fact, most of the other characters ONLY contribution was 3 seconds on screen to show their power effect off, then they stepped aside to let Hugh Jackman or Ian McKellen take over.

In any case, just be thankful we are no longer in the days of Joel Schumacher Batman movies, Howard the Duck, Steel, or Godawful Spawn movies. If the "worst" I have to put up with is a Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern, I consider myself very blessed indeed now.

I say that really only depends on how it's translated. I for one never liked how there is this automatic assumption that the costumes are spandex or rubber, when nowhere in the source material is this stated to be the case. Take Captain America for example, his costume is Kevlar, mail and leather, but until the new movies it's been shown as spandex or rubber. I really think that with the right fabrics and materials any comic book costume can come to life and not look like Halloween. They already put Wolverine in leather suit so why not dye that leather something other than black? I'm not saying bright yellow and blue, but duller shades would work or the two tone brown. Then use either a hood or a leather helmet for the mask.

Why does wolverine need the mask? It looks silly for such a serious character. Batman's costume looks silly, but it's been explained about the psychological aspect... wolverine's? Nope. Looks nothing like a real wolverine... just looks silly. I've always preferred the comics issues where Wolverine is not in costume.

I'm also in the camp that Wolverine's Demonic Pikachu costume would not translate, reguardless of materials.
I personally think it's just an extremely silly looking design, with loud, bright colors in a very garish design, and a terrible mask.
As much as I absolutely hate Frank Quietly's art style, I think he's the only one who's put Wolverine in a halfway decent costume (Black pants, and a black leather X-Men coat).
Probably combine that with his X-Force costume then maybe you have something useable, and would keep continuity with the overall style of the films.
Just leave that mask off.

It could be done like a personalized special ops mask. It doesn't need the giant giant ear flaps, which he didn't originally have, and bright colors would look silly but muted shades could work.

Wolverine doesn't need a special ops mask. His senses are acute like bats, bloodhounds, and eagle all rolled into one...

As for muted colors, black is a fairly muted color... so...

Avengers kind of proved costumes need to be updated tbh.

Cap - Iconic, but even his movie commented on the costume and gave a reason.
Ironman - The suit is Ironman. So it has to make sense within technology
Thor - not really a costume, it's his homeworld's style. It's just what royalty and his race wears.
Black Widow - Shield issue outfit, but also just a one piece suit with a belt anyway.
Hawkeye - His "costume" is another shield issue ops suit and he has sunglasses. The comics changed to match him because his comic costume was "classic camp."
Hulk - It's Hulk. There is no costume. Big ass jolly green giant is hulk.

Falcon is unknown still.

So Wolverine not having his costume makes sense. There's no purpose behind it.
The X-Men costume changes make sense too. They started out with yellows and blacks, those then evolved to straight up black fake leather ops suits over the course of 40 someodd years with the movie timeline.

Other movies:

Kickass - It's all about the rhetoric with the costume. The absurdity is the entire point. What made the movie in the end not work(though still enjoyable!!!) were the rampant script changes that destroyed the heart of the story and the reality behind it.

Dredd - While keeping the helmet on for the film, they still updated the costume to make sense.

Batman - The Psychology and other points of distraction from where the main body is and hiding gadgets too among more.

Man of Steel - Unknown without seeing the movie.

On costumes it's not about that it can't be done. It's about what are the reasons behind the usage and does it make sense for this property. Some do, some don't. Some you can't do without the costumes as it's an integral part, other's you can't do with the costumes because it just won't work. There are some that can be panel to frame, and there are some that's not even remotely possible. It's a balancing game based on a per what each property needs type model. There is no single one solid way to do comic movies.

I see the reason on skipping the Wolverine more towards because there is nothing worthwhile that can be done from this movie that hasn't already been done or proven to not sell. Yakuza would be MiB all over again, and Ninjas are already all over the place in other lines.

We might see something closer to days of future past. That seems like the best place to do X-men past present and future for movies and comics. Even without that, there's still New Mutants down the line, and the last X-men prequel film.

So skipping a few FoX-Men flicks to alternate later seems smart. Let people burnout on Thor, Cap, IM and Avengers, then switch it up to X-Men again later.

Plus there's also the fact Fox may have a different licensing cost as opposed to things Marvel done.
We've seen it with Sony too. Megabloks having the spidey film rights, but lego having the comic and ultimate spider-man toon rights.

I honestly don't really understand the LOL factor in this. A couple of those figures are from the movie (the ninja and Silver Samurai, I believe).

However, the details that are out of this movie don't really lend it to an action figure line very well. Based on everything we've seen so far, Logan doesn't even have a costume in the movie. It looks to be a much more serious/mature take on the character, based on everything the director has said.

Not that I don't agree with you on the Fox movie costumes, if you're referring to the first three X-Men movies. Those things were awful. But this movie isn't using any of the leather crap. The X-Men are disbanded (or dead) in this movie so it doesn't look like we'll have many costumes/characters that would translate into action figures for kids.

First Class had bright yellow/blue costumes which would have worked well for action figures, but of course Hasbro didn't have time to make a line for that given how quickly the movie was put into production and put out. That's why the only thing we got was a few First Class tie-in MU figures.
