I know a lot of comic things just don't translate to live action but we've been shown that it's worth trying to get away with more than they have in the past.

The word right now is that Marvel plans on doing Planet Hulk for next Hulk film and then his return (WWH) as Avengers 3. They've built their universe up a lot but I feel they would have a long way to go to actually do it comic accurate. The Illuminati would be out since they don't have the rights to most of them. I do think Marvel might be able to convince Fox/Sony that it's worth it for them to allow Spider-Man and the X-Men to show up in Avengers movies.

There should be a thread to talk about a potential planet hulk movie leading up to WWH in Avengers 3 because there is so much to discuss.

But man I would love to see Hugh Jackman's Wolverine fight Hulk on the big screen just once! Guess the toys are the closest thing I'll ever get to it. Knew I should have out down on a Hot Toys Hulk.

We're missing too many factors to say for certain that's what it is.

It does appear that way.
But it could also be licensing cost from fox. Retailers wanted product so they whipped something up easy.
They could be holding out for better timing to do an X-men focused line (we have no shortage of movies coming for when).

After the last wolverine movie bombed, but First class did well, these figures seem like a tentative "test the waters" step. It's a bit of a mean soft step though. You can't get any real data from these no artic things.

Any real data you do get, also gets tainted by the low artic too. So it's a double edged sword. If we bite, we might get more X-Men movie franchise toys, but if we bite, those toys might be lacking in articulation too.

Yeah, if they were ever to do a retrospective with figures from previous movies, Days of the Future Past seems like the time to do it, considering how many characters from previous films are in it.

That's crazy, Planet Hulk would be too soon imo.

I wish Fox would give up X-Men but they've gone on record saying it'll never happen and that they would resort to direct-to-dvd movies just to cockblock X-Men/Wolverine from ever going back to Marvel Studios.

Like I said, it really varis per property. Hulk being literally just a mutated person, and Planet Hulk being aliens makes it all rather easy to go.
Sony may be down for the cross marketing though. They were going to allow the Oscorp building in the skyline. If not, there's always Beta Ray Bill and even more cosmic to use like a stranded Nova Corps member, a darkhawk amulet, and more. The only real need there is that it be someone or something iconic to space and superheroes that would have heard of hulk for the story usage to still work.

Fox is still open for debate too. There are many areas they could easily tap in too.

Definitely needs a thread. Soooooooooo many movies until we get to it all though. IM3, Cap2, Thor 2, GotG(tentative), Ant-Man(tentative), Avengers 2, War Machine(tentative), TBD, TBD, Planet Hulk(tentatively), Avengers 3 (WWH Tentatively.) Plus on top of all that is the SHIELD tv series which is in universe too.

Then on the spider-man side we still have:
ASM 2, 3, potentially a second trilogy.
Venom 1, then potentially becoming a trilogy or dual trilogy(depends on route and if they go eddie to Flash).

On the X-Men side we still have:
Days of Future Past
New Mutants (tentative)
Deadpool (tentative)
X-Men prequel 3 (Tentative)
Wolverine 3 (tentative)

X-Men 4
TBD
X-Men 5
TBD
X-Men 6
TBD

And whatever other side stories or characters can be shoehorned inbetween. That's also assuming Days of Future past doesn't just go ahead and be the creation of the Marvel Cinematic AU(the timeline diverges into the two timelines at Days of future past). That would make the "first class" group one of the proto SHIELDs but seperate from Howard Stark's group like how Weapon X was too(for weapon X that could even be a competitive group/project) and X-Men 1-3 never happened. Lots of story potential and ways to go back and forth if they choose. Plus diverging the timelines like that makes Cap and Logan be in WWII at the same time in both timelines. So really, the only limit to it all as always is the writer.

There's also still Fantastic 4 Reborn, and whatever is happening on daredevil.

All this isn't counting the more indie cost style characters from Marvel like Dr. Strange, Ironfist, possibly black panther, Luke Cage, Nova(Sam Alexander = the kids movie Starkid, it's part of the multitude of reasons they redid him and started framing darkhawk as potentially a badguy turning good, gets more convoluted from there but just one of many reasons the change happened for story/media potential), and anything else obscure they decide to tap for the audience potential but can keep the budget within a smaller range for higher returns on lesser knowns just because of concept and execution.

Planet Hulk is still a ways out. They have to build the cosmic first. That's what GotG will start doing, and then Planet Hulk (tentatively) is the culmination or direct combination of the two. Plus with GOTG in the mix now, it opens up doors for hulk just to be stranded as opposed to launched away or however they want to approach it.

You have to keep in mind just because they are doing something, doesn't mean it'll be exactly like the comics. Avengers was ultimates more or less, but it still changed a hell of a lot. It was pretty much just the Avengers vs things that vaguely look like the skrulls but aren't really and shared no characteristics of their races powers for subterfuge as yet.

Fox may eventually work with Marvel though. Especially if it's monetarily beneficial.

Someday it could happen. If the actors are too old by then... Well gives us Old man Logan and Old Man Barton. Marvel's Grumpiest Old Men.

Personally, while it is annoying to balance the contracts or pay attention to who has who, in the long run it works out best for everyone.
Now we get more movies altogether. No side gets ignored. They can eventually all still cross. Marvel has to think on their toes to adapt which helps create better work. All around everyone wins.

There's also the issue that Marvel may not change much on these properties either. Even if Marvel got the X-Men rights back, if they keep the same producers and directors, much won't change. They may not even bother with a reboot if that happens and just tie it directly in outright, but still same world. In fact, it'd be very easy to connect the first wolverine movie to the captain america movie, just like the cap movie is tied to the norton hulk movie. Then it's just about setting it up so the X1-3 incidents are what led to shield's creation or any other story idea they want to use including parallel world. That's if they even bother to explain it other than just having the characters meet. (They are all alternate marvel universes anyway with their own universe designations. So that doesn't mean these characters don't exist in these worlds, we're just not allowed to see them yet.)

On top of all this, Hasbro on the outside has to figure out what toys to make when and what they can get artwork for early enough to do for figures on new movies. They have to guesstimate when's the best planning for areas with films coming down the line. Who can be pushed back, who should be pushed forward, where can we save on budget, where shouldn't we ration budget, how should we ration the budget. How can we make them rebuy this character later if they are a design that won't change. etc.
Now with the current engineering and bucks they have. Really it's just about figuring out timing now on where to make big pushes and where not too. This includes where to ration out new engineering costs and how can they best reapplied to limit down what's new(like new parts for IM2 molds to create more movie and comic armors or Ultron/villians etc). Or in some cases experiment with new ideas for later implementation.
