There were aspects of this that I liked and aspects that I didn't like.

Personally, I think Part 1's story should have been Part 2, and Part 1 should have had episodes that fed into and built up the story that we initially got.

Yeah. You have to refamiliarize people with the universe before you make abrupt shocking changes/revelations. Given the change in tone from Filmation to this so-called "spiritual successor", lead in was needed even more. And those totally unfamiliar with MOTU at all must've been confused.

The closest thing to an audience surrogate character, Andra, doesn't appear until episode 2. So maybe they should started after the event and gradually told what happened in flashbacks, as that's a common method nowdays. Or would that confuse newbies even more?

I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. It felt faithful to the original aesthetically and thematically while updating it for a modern audience. Not in the same league as She-Ra: PoP (which had the advantage of being a reboot, to be fair) but way better than the bland 2002 reboot, in my opinion.

As someone who watched the original when it first aired (I was 2 yrs old when it premiered and watched it through all the reruns and She-Ra when it aired), I found the 2002 version to be quite enjoyable (minus the design of the Power Sword).

With Revelations, I agree that the aesthetics fit in better with the original and frankly, the animation was outstanding, though the Sailor Moon-esque transformation was a bit odd for He-Man. It fit for She-ra but seemed to elegant for MOTU. Something more raw and primal would have been my preference for Adam's transformation. My main gripe about Revelations was Teela's personality. I get being upset over not being told Adam is He-Man, but I think they pushed it a bit too far to the point where I found her insufferable. King Randor threatens to execute her father and Teela storms off like a teenager being told they can't go to Starbucks with their friends. I found it very hard to sympathize with Teela. And after all of his years of service, I doubt Duncan would have just walked away like that. Even with the King's threat, he would have found some way to continue to help the people of Eternia.

But we each like what we like and vice versa.
