So I need some advice! I am leaving off to school soon and I have some figures that I need to put off into storage while I am gone, since I wont be able to dust them and keep them all clean! I am pretty new to collecting, and have always put them on display and away in boxes. Luckily most of them are still in their original packaging and wont really have to worry about those. Although, there are those that are out for display and I am wondering what will be the best way to store these figures away. Most of them are Banpresto figures about 6-8 inches each, and then I have various others...like SE Play Arts...various other 3.75 figures. I would truly appreciate all the info I can have!

Just looking on how to package them? where to store them? Ive read about plastic baggies and things of that sort. Let me know!

As long as you don't have them on the floor, if you have original packaging put them in that first, anything loose your best bet is zip log bags, tiny 1 for accesories and larger 1 to put the accessories and figure in. Rubbermaid storage toats, are cheap , available in different sizes and are relatively sealed tight. Depending on the amount you need to store you can get the long skinny containers that slide under your bed for under $20-30.. other then that boxes containers, shelving is fine just don't leave on the floor incase of flood, then your left with water damage/mold. And avoid direct contact to windows/sunlight to avoid paint faid. And avoid garages, basements due to mold, mildew, and dampness. Also anything with batteries in it remove to avoid battery acid corosion. Hope this helps.

I've had to move a few times and once you break something unfixable or loose an accessory, you'll remember to spend the extra time and care... like zip lock bags, tape, storage containers etc, all cheap easy to find objects that will save your toys.

I would also recommend layers of bubble wrap between each layer of toys, especially in the larger totes. This is especially helpful for protecting toys that have fragile parts. The wrap can also help keep the baggies from sliding and shifting around too much and also help with weight issues.

Which brings up another point: try to distribute the weight evenly when using any container. Put the heavier objects on or near the bottom and the lighter stuff on top. Also, don't overload the containers. Gravity over time can be just as much of a danger as direct sunlight or mold/mildew.

Of course, if you're only going to store them for a couple of weeks, you may be fine with a few simple precautions. But if it's going to be months or years of storage, it's better to be safe than sorry.
