Seeing him actualized in highly detailed flesh tone is kind of creepy.

I know most people don't care about Popeye these days, but it was something I grew up with and still have some great collectibles from. I pre-ordered this, it's a no brainer. Not only is the sculpt killer, tons of accessories for display options. I really love all the Marvel and DC stuff Mezco is doing for the One 12 line, but I would love more random figures from random license like this. Can't wait.

I have to admit, I'm pretty tempted by this. I only have one Mezco One:12 and I'm not blown away by it, especially for the price. This, though, is one of those things I never knew I needed…until now!

Im curious which one you have that you aren't blown away by? I mean they aren't all amazing, but I'd say more than half of the ones I've grabbed have been super impressive. I think the Punisher, Knightmare Batman and Dark Knight have been the most impressive of the ones I've gotten. The Original Series Star Trek figures are great but not mind blowing, Dredd, Superman Red Son and some of the other Marvel ones I have are great but not as impressive as some others. This Popeye tho looks like it might end up being one of their best releases... which seems random but this does look really great.

I've seen illustrations like this of famous cartoon and video game characters, but I was always under the impression that it was meant as a joke, to show how weird cartoon characters look with realistic skin, eyes, and hair while retaining their cartoony proportions. It's shocking to see an action figure company actually make a figure like that.

It's not suppose to look like Robin Williams it's based more on the cartoon look of Popeye just with Mezco's own twist which is why it looks very creeply realistic in detail.

I have the coloured version of Frankenstein. It's ok. I just cannot justify paying more than $40 for it. (I spent $50)

The Mezco line is nice, don't get me wrong, but it's just not for me.

Oh man, that's one of the other figures of theirs I've been on the fence about. Since it was already released a few years ago, it's doubtful we'll get any more Universal Monsters so I didn't pull the trigger. And was more partial to the Black and White variant that goes for far more money. I do agree that a lot of their figures are a big over priced. I think this Popeye and all of the accessories (multiple heads/hats, removable jacket and other various accessories) is a good price. Most of my Mezco figures I've gotten for $80-$90 and quite a few felt a bit over priced.

I don’t get what all the pipes are for, they look awfully samey.

Old-timer that I am, Popeye will always have a soft spot in my nostalgic heart. Not sure what I think of the half realistic, half cartoon aesthetic, though. Still, I am mesmerized by these pics. I've waffled on many One:12 offerings, given their price tag. If this were south of $60, I'd pull the trigger for sure. Still may. And, yeah, I'm not seeing much difference in all the pipes. Seems one "smoking" and one not would be sufficient.

*edit* Unless they're just extras/spares. In which case, that's okay.

Google Hot Toys Popeye and you will see the statue that I think inspired the style of this figure. That Hot Toys statue sold out quickly and has a hefty aftermarket price. So some good number of collectors must dig the asthegics.

The smoke effects on his pipe look like miniature nuclear explosions. It's surprisingly appropriate for such a macho guy.

The is an absolutely incredible figure with all those accessories! I can't say enough about all the reasons this gets a preorder from me but mine is placed. It will be my first Mezco item and I can't wait to get it.

It also makes me excited about a future Bluto release.
I would almost order two of these for different poses

Crazy Popeye figure!
This is something I’m sure a lot of people will be on the fence about. The cartoon is before my time, but I had a VHS of Popeye reruns when I was a kid, and I watched it quite a bit. It was so funny! If this was more of that cartoony Popeye, I’d be all in. This version is a bit creepy though, kind of reminds me of the gangsters from the “Dick Tracy” movie. Popeye merchandise can fetch a pretty penny though, I’m almost interested just so I have another investment. Mezco figures really can cost a lot, but they can cost a whole lot more when you have to buy from ebay. Hmmmm

BBTS listed this in the details:

3 Corncob pipes (fit into mouth of both heads)
3 Corncob pipes with smoke (fit into mouth of both heads)

My guess is one for each head (smoking and non smoking) and 2 loose pipes (smoking and non).

I would like to add though after looking at those photoshopped pictures they show his fisted hands with drawstrings in them, from his bag, AND the ships wheel in that fist. Now the OTHER pictures show those fisted hands as being completely closed. That is a little shady to me. Just take pictures of the figure. Don't try to make it do something it can't.
