Damn I completely forgot about them making Star Trek figures. I hope they're the standard 4 inch figures. I'd LOVE to have Kirk vs Predator.

Plus you know...

I'm all in on a 1:18 Leatherface for my Mortal Kombat collection. Hopefully they do Rambo in that scale too for the same reason.

It's hard to tell without paint apps, but if that Nimoy Spock figure turns out well, I might have to pick that up.

Yeah I was planning on getting the one from the remake for the same reason. I'd also be down for smaller Rambo figures. The first movie is a classic.

A good G.I. Joe-scale sculpt of Stallone as Rambo would be a 'must have.'

I'm surprised Hiya doesn't know that abrams/kurtzman trek = FAIL. They won't get past the first wave.

Yes, exactly! It always struck me as downright sarcastic that the second Abrams movie was literally called "STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS," because as far as I'm concerned, Abrams and Kurtzman drove the franchise into the ground. Nimoy was a light in the 'darkness.'

If I have the money, I'd even buy more to make the Contra guys

lmao, a Star Trek line starting with the 60s series is doomed to fail too. Thank god HIYA went with a different take on the line.

You may be right. My perspective seems to be an outlier sometimes. That said, I think there are still a lot of fans who grew up with the first few movies who would pay for decent figures of the original command crew as they appeared on the big screen.

Random Thoughts about the Star Trek figures:

I'm amazed at how many requests there are for 1966 TOS figures. As a guy who started collecting with TOS Mego figures back in the 70's, I get it but can we save those for later? Especially when Kirk, Spock, and Khan are still clogging pegs at Walmart for $5.

The scale is bugging me. I'm a huge fan of 1/18 scale figures but Anton Furst was 5'9" and Leonard Nimoy was 6'0" and the figures appear to be the same height even with radically different sculpts. This isn't a case of using common bucks economically (which I'm okay with where it makes sense). This is a case of these being 4" tall figures rather than 1/18 scale figures. That's disappointing.

I enjoyed the 2009 Star Trek reboot but I'm shocked this is where Hiya has decided to launch the line. If they wanted to launch with a modern take on TOS characters, Strange New Worlds is the way to go.

All that said, I've already got a Kelvin-verse wishlist gestating in my noggin. I hope this line prospers so that it can live long.

Incorrect. Those idiots at dst, as well as mcfarlane and playmates went the same route. They are toast.

DST picked up where Art Asylum left off. They launched with the newest media at the time (ENT). Never did finish the bridge crew.

TOS characters are certainly the most recognizable but I'd sooner see incarnations from Strange New Worlds than anything else.

The only Star Trek figures I see on pegs at Walmart are Kirk, Spock, and Khan from TWOK and they're collecting dust at $5 each.

lol

McFarlane did Kirk and Picard and the line croaked, though I suspect that was mostly because the likeness on those were bad in conjunction with the issue of them doing what DST does. DST doesn't make action figures. They make ugly statues with useless cuts in them. So it doesn't surprise me that those two lines failed. Also the playmates line is currently dying without support for releasing poorly sculpted, and articulated, figures of Kirk, Spock, Khan, Picard, Riker, and Data. Oh Saru and Burnham are in the mix two, but those are ones I've rarely seen, and those two are the worst sculpted of the bunch. So clearly releasing the stuff that's most popular with geriatric fans isn't the way to go here.
Most of the time they will buy the most popular characters in this franchise and then dip out of the line, causing it to crater.

Truer words were never posted. Every time a new Star Trek line is announced, the ugly side of the Trek fandom rears its ugly head and the commentary is endless. You could probably rattle off the dozen of so generic "Nu-Trek" smears these "fans" flood comment sections and forums with. I've seen it on Facebook, Reddit and several other places besides.

The truth of the matter is that The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise aren't what's keeping the franchise going. Sure, the old fans would probably be satisfied with endless reruns but its not bringing much needed life and vitality to the fandom. 2009's Star Trek was the dawn of a new age of Trek. Sure, there was a wait until Discovery (which I think overplayed its hand tonally, by trying to be too dark and edgy), but now we've got great shows like Picard (S3), Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks and Prodigy which have brought new life and new fans to the franchise. They have brought those new fans back to the older series.

A modern toyline, therefore, should reflect the modern Trek media, from '09 onwards, instead of limiting their focus to the older shows that younger fans have little to no relationship with. This HIYA line, even before it releases, looks better than the abominable Playmates line. The artication, sculpts and actor likenesses are all where you'd expect a modern toyline to be. They could even stand a chance at being Trek's much needed answer to Star Wars: The Vintage Collection - something that I've been wanting to see for years!
