This whole thread is becoming a sponsored "article" on the Mandela effect. I hate when my phone gets caught in one these push- notification loops...

I will definetly pull the trigger on some of them at least, if the actor, actress likenesses are decent.

And there's the rub. Judging by the human heads and faces that Hiya have produced so far, I'd say we're in for more ugly. Just look at the humans from their ALIEN line, or the Marines from ALIENS. True, Hiya could have gotten better and perhaps these will be a treat. We just don't know what we're in for yet.

As much as I'd love some 1:18 Trek figures, I'd feel a lot more optimistic if Hiya could copy and paste Star Trek's 56-year-old mission statement correctly.

I know they love to reuse body sculpts so I'm expecting plenty of uniformed characters with different noggins and repainted outfits. Consequently, I'm also expecting figures that aren't in scale with each other.

Maybe they'll just offer Starfleet spacesuits with different portraits.

They didn't get the likenesses of the actors but there's nothing ugly about their human figures from the Aliens franchise.

I wonder if this means that Playmates has given up on their revival?

Indeed. If only dst weren't so damn stupid and lost their Trek license before getting the Enterprise-C to us. Now there is a huge hole in the collection.

The price is what I expected but I'd really like that base to be a transporter pad. I'm not asking for it to light up but it would be a cool modification.

A 1:18 scale shuttle wouldn't shock me if this line succeeds.

I'm surprised they are going with the 2009 film instead of classic TOS Trek merch which would presumably sell much better.

So if these guys are wearing the neo classic uniforms from the last scene in the 2009 film-with their accoutrements-wouldn't that make them accurate to Into Darkness? Only watched Into Darkness once, never again lol.

In addition, Hiya Toys confirmed to TrekCore at SDCC that they have a worldwide license for all live action Star Trek, they will have a 6" scale line, and are planning a Starship Enterprise with lights and sound. No clarification on which model of Enterprise it will be. I'm hopeful for the 2009 version to replace the Playmates version.

Kirk is a no-brainer but I'm surprised they went with McCoy first over Spock.

Spock and Nero both had painted prototypes at SDCC, so I imagine they'll be coming fairly soon. And in fairness, Kirk met Bones first.

True but Spock is the co-main character with Kirk. You'd think they'd get released together.

Someday I hope that Star Trek will finally get a 1/12th, 6-inch scale line, that will fit with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Cobra Kai, DC (Mattel), G.I. Joe, Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, Marvel, Power Rangers, Robocop, Sailor Moon, Star Wars, Street Fighter, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Terminator, and oh so many other figures.

It’s probably a case of having to anchor a wave with a big character

It's amazing that Star Trek just can't sell as a toy line anymore. Playmates' revival line seems to be pegwarming and stalled now, and McFarlane's blink-an-you-miss it line of a whopping TWO figures was an entire waste of time. So I don't expect much from this line either. DST's Trek line from the early 2000s was the last somewhat successful line for awhile, but it annoys me that it got cancelled before they could finish the DS9 crew or give us a few more TOS characters that were planned.

You’d think the episodic nature of Star Trek would make the franchise a no brainer for modern toy marketing, but I believe it may be that the voluminous content itself - spread across disparate generations of fans – is counterintuitively working against efforts to deliver merch. While Star Wars has grown into a sprawling license, its main cohort of characters are still recognizable mainstays of the expanded content despite our being many movies removed from the original trilogy. Star Trek started out with a great deal more content, backstory, universe building, then kept layering with nearly equal amounts of programing for every subsequent series following the original. As fans, we've had a Star Trek cast for every generation. Some generations had more than one line up to choose from; I grew up watching syndicated runs of the original, but Generations was the Trek of my age group along with DS9. What I’m getting at is that there’s a lot to choose from and I get how this might be a bit of a shell game in deciding which niche to highlight. At this point, I’m not even sure who I’d buy figures for outside of Spock and Kirk.
