That's exactly what I'm all about at this time of year- the "being thankful" part- from thanksgiving through New Year's I try to apprecieate what I have and give of myself.

But most of myself is sharp and shiney, so I use black humor to get through the religion aspect of the season.

Locally, I can respect the hell out of churches and other paces that help the poor and needy, feeding the homeless and giving gifts to poor kids, etc....the rest is crass commercialism. Crap like jerks giving only to themseves- all the commercials implying that your wife or whatever will love you more if you buy that Lexus or treat yourself to a giant TV set.

I buy a lot of crap for myself- but I also donate a hundred to the local food bank and hook up friends with stuff I think they'd like.

While I'm playing grumpy old man, you know what I sorta despise?
Christmas cards- I'd MUCH prefer a nice letter or note from a person with a personal message instead of some obligatory card signed under some copy to be only glanced at and then discarded.

They're not so bad. I like that old school communication because it takes more effort than a text message or email, which seems to be all anyone I know is capable of doing. I don't really get Christmas cards myself, but my family does. My old school mom made a list of people and sent out at least 30 of them, and I'm sure at least a few of those people didn't deserve shit, so that was nice of her. People are just too detached these days, and that kind of bugs me. Oh well, there is always a bright side to things.

See, that's cool- when it shows someone was thinkning of you.
That's very cool.
I meant a card with a present-and presents that seem sorta "bought for anybody".

But of course, you can often give those gifts to needy people...unless it's a reindeer suit or something equally bizarre.
I once recieved a NASCAR hat from an uncle- possibly the single gift that least represents me in any way possible.

Really, WTF?

Some people are horrible at finding gifts, or they just give whatever is sitting around (I'm sure he had plenty of that stuff in his man cave). Anyway, as far as you sir, I hope you have a magnificent Christmas! I'd send you a Christmas card, but it seems a little too late.

Personally I'd rather $$ then a Christmas card. A Hallmark card is $5+ you get 1 of those singing cards with voice recording capabilites and a butterfly that jumps out and you might as well sign the deed to your house over lol. I like the sticker tags the best, to: mom, love Mark. Short and sweet and to the point, I know how my family and friends feel about me, I don't need it expressed through a greeting card told in rhyme created by some douche who lives alone and doesn't even know what true love is. vent for the day.

I made a mention to my folks about my LCS having a 20% off sale and that i saw the jack kirby 4th world omnibus and complete secret wars(I+II) brand new. I have a feeling I might see them under the tree tommorrow cause my folks are that awesome.

imagine this but as a 25 year old "adult" christmas morning lol.

I saw that at my LCS too.

I have the hardcover JKO vol1, and had the Secret Wars softcover from before. I bought the SW 2 softcover.

Did you see the complete Mad Man?

I hope Santa brings me that for Christmas.

So when you say that the holidays are over, you are only refering to the holidays that you consider to be holidays?

If you don't like Christmas, which it seems you don't, then maybe a good solution would be to simply not consider it a holiday.

Then you wouldn't have to worry about them being over because they never would have begun.

just because I dont "believe" in them or "celebrate" them does not mean millions of othere dont and hence my food shopping and toy hunting is a complete pain in the ass until they are over, even if D00MTR0N does not approve of them.

I can see where D00M is coming from. When you want to go shopping for food and get back to your kids or significant other, ect, it can be VERY frustrating waiting for "5 hours" [probably closer to 30 minutes] in a damn line. Lucky for me I live in a small town so it isn't that bad. However, it still gets nucking FUTS at times.

Sure, but I'm considering putting them in the same room so I can use them at the same time.
