Also, his robes should be over his chest plate, as they were in A New Hope.

This may take place right before a New Hope but that doesn't mean his robes have to be over his chest piece. He obviously changes that look sometimes considering he didn't have it in Empire Strikes Back, Return of The Jedi nor Revenge of the Sith.

He's also apparently not going to have it in Rogue One like that.

That is an absolute beauty but no lightsaber blade or an alternate ignited lightsaber is kind of a questionable decision.

Maybe he doesn't ignite his lightsaber in Rogue One.

Perish the thought though..... I want him to Unleash Hell upon those damn Rebels.

Sure, one could apply all sorts of logic to why they chose to go this route, but for me, continuity speaking, it'd have made more sense if in Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One his robes were over his chest piece, and then changed for Empire and Jedi.

I'm sure Vader will be in this movie for what amounts to a glorified 2-minute cameo, so we're lucky we're even getting this, lightsaber blade or not.

Sometimes I wear my suit jackets open, sometimes buttoned up. Sometimes a tie, sometimes no tie. Vader sometimes wears it over his armor, sometimes not lol.

You're simplifying too much. In A New Hope Vaders helmet was not symmetrical and had red tinted lenses for the eyes and his robes over his chest piece. So In Revenge, Rogue One, Empire and Jedi he looks the same. I.E. his look in A New Hope is the only different look he had. Why would Vader switch his robes for like a year or two and then switch back, that's stupid. You think he cares about his fashion statement or comfort level? It's just a continuity error and they're still sticking with not using the New Hope version Vader, which is my favorite version of the character.

Ditto. Compared to ANH, this helmet seems 'off': the brow ridges stick out too far, the carapace is slightly too big and out of proportion with the faceplate, the torso is a bit too short, the hands/fists are a little too small. The effect is to make it look less like tall, classic Vader and more like a little guy in an oversized Vader costume. It's just not the 'definitive' Vader for me. That said, the figure seems well made and might be expected to appeal to lots of fans.

Does anyone have a 'favorite' 6th-scale Vader figure? I've been meaning to pick one up for some time, even pre-ordered at one point, but keep getting sidetracked.

First off, I was kidding.

Second off, who says it's stupid that he decides not to wear his robes over his shoulders for awhile vs not.

The New Hope version is the most disliked look for Vader, people prefer his glossy helmet, no suspender look, so it's obvious why the movie went this route.

You like the new Hope look, guess what? There is a Hot Toys version of it. The Helmet in a New Hope looks poorly made in comparison to his Empire and future looks, I see exactly why they didn't go that route. They perfected his look when he became the big bad guy in Empire.

I know you're not being serious, nor am I, though I can see how since we don't know each other they read more serious. I know most people prefer the glossy Empire version of Vader. I like the scruffier New Hope version.

Bummer about the Hot Toys A New Hope Vader is the pain in the butt it is to turn on the light feature. Kinda ruined it really.

This Hot Toys Vader looks great in quality but looks more like some dudes Cosplay or Revenge of the Sith version.

And me, that's who says it's stupid for Vader to change how he wears his outfit. Doesn't fit his character, doesn't seem like something he'd do. Sorry if I came off like a jerk, I have that problem some times!

Exactly, it looks like Vader Cosplay to me. But as you said the figure looks really well made (as most Hot Toys are).

I had the Hot Toys A New Hope Vader on order but after reviews of how asinine the light feature was set up, it was a deal breaker for me. Hot Toys and Sideshow have put out some awesome looking Vader figures, I really need one.

His ROTS look is the most disliked look by far. Don't see much dislike for proto-Vader from ANH(my favorite version) as much as just people preferring his ESB look more.

Yeah, i would've preferred if they followed continuity too.
Anyway, i think the tunic over the chest armor looks much cooler. Also, it breaks up the redundancy of that armor pattern that basically goes from shoulder to shoulder across the chest.
The 3 3/4 RO vader seems to have the tunic over the chest piece so I'm not really sure which version exactly is going to appear in the movie.

While I've never seen anyone bash on any Vader design what would make the ROTS suit the most disliked?

Personally I'm with the majority in preferring the ESB/ROTJ look but I've always still been fond of the original seeing as it is his debut look. I like the red lenses and the cloth being over the armor kinda adds a sense of deceit to the character. I mainly prefer the later suit because it was more refined and the completely revealed chest armor made him appear more warrior in nature.

Yea there hasn't really been any good shots of Vader from Rogue One. I also just noticed this figure doesn't have the black chain for the cape around his neck. Makes the cape look super weird, like it just goes under his helmet. Curious to see what he'll look like in the film.

That was a good read, thanks. Most of that stuff I knew already but hadn't seen those early preliminary concept art sketches from McQuarrie. Also didn't realize how much retconing they did between films to make Vader seem more robotic as they revealed his back story. I've always liked the samurai aesthetic to Vader, hence why I grab all the Bandai Movie Realization Star Wars figures they put out.

It mainly stems from the fact that Hayden Christensen really wasnt as big as Dave Prowse. So they tried making up for it by bulking out the chest and armor pieces (in fact they seem to be one piece instead of separate pieces). The tweaked vader helmet design made the face part look a little too small for the oddly shaped dome part and the whole helmet ensemble looks a little too big for christensen's frame anyway.

I dont dislike it myself but, greatly prefer the ones from the other films.

At least they got the gloves right. I do prefer the shiny helmet than the matte, not a fan of the cod piece, or lack of ignited saber accessory. Maybe I should just wait for the ESB figure.

This is the exact Vader I want and I'm fucking baffled by their decision to not include a lit lightsaber.

I mean what the fuck. We're talking about pennies worth of plastic here for a non-LED lit one; which I'd be fine with. I POed at BBTS but I'll most likely cancel before release unless they show him having a lit lightsaber. It's unreal on a $250 product.

That doesn't make sense because his robes are over his chest in Rebels.
